  • Re-creating the album version of this song to a live format would have been tough, so I liked how Ray & Co. slowed the tempo down and added a horn section; it gives the song a whole new life and grandeur imo.

  • Brilliant !!!

  • Perfection

  • Why was Dave Davies allowed to sing the background vocals on this? He ruined it. This would have been an amazing version with only Ray Singing.

  • @papano12 what the fuck are you talking about? It's Dave harmony that makes Kinks music magical

  • @kinksboss1 I agree but he's off pitch during this live concert.. Heck he's forgetting the lyrics and me-meking... Hey he has a good voice though.. They weren't harmonizing well during this performance though.. anyone can see that

  • @papano12 u crazy man, dave vocals make this song so special.

  • Happy Birthday, Village Green!

  • Dave's pants are made of awesome.

  • Arguably the greatest songwriter of his generation....and that's up against some pretty stiff competition. :)

  • Just saw Ray Davies live -- it was awesome and the old songs sounded so current! They were way ahead of their time.

  • Ray really is a genius with lyrics . . . He can make you laugh, he can make you cry (No More Looking Back) . . . and he can make you think.

  • what a good jam.

  • A "Sgt Peppers" version of the kinks. Great song!

  • G0d save the kinks

  • I love the video, I just hate that the next song is "Village Green" and it gets cut off, not by the poster of this video mind you, but by the programme itself.

  • God Save The Kinks!

  • ray davies, the best and most intelligent songwriter ever!!!!

  • i'm sure thats Georgios Samaras in the hoops!!! yipee

  • Dave's back singing is a bit annoying. Good voice but, he's singing on and off.

  • beatifull beatifull beatifull hair in stero

  • back in the day they never got their due, totally awesome, timeless, genius , what a gift thanks utube

  • The most romantic song ever written

  • @wndrboy You mustn't have heard many songs.

  • @FetaCheese222 Or perhaps your idea of romance, differs from mine.

  • I love Dave's vocal harmony!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Village Green Preservation Society, simply one of the best albums in the history of rock and roll.

  • God save the Kinks!

  • i adore this version

also aw yeah 0 dislikes the way it should be :)

  • What a brilliant version.

  • @BewareTheBeast Truly! Isn't the brass a tremendous addition at this slower tempo?

  • @TheLastYogurt I thought exactly the same - a great version, and an isnpired idea to have the brass on it.

  • I found out that The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society LP was released the same day as the Beatles' White Album--November 22, 1968. In 2 weeks, The White Album sold 10 million copies. Village Green sold 25,000.

I just bought the CD and I prefer this version of The Village Green Preservation Society to the more folksy studio version. The horn section adds so much here.

  • I just posted this on a Facebook event page for a St George's Day set I'm doing next week and the date came up as 24th January 1973 - the day I was born!

  • Also, I think Ray would have been a great Joker if Scorsese had made a Batman movie in the early 70s.

  • I'm right there with you, doggymcnuggets. I heard this song for the first time ever within the last week and it's become an immediate favorite.

However, I can't imagine liking this when I was 16. I think a different perspective is needed to appreciate a line like "God save...virginity."

  • I'm 41, just getting into anything by the Kinks other than their big US hits. Why haven't I heard more of them sooner?!?! Incredible stuff!

  • Every time I watch this I can't help but laugh at Dave forgetting the word. Still Dave is a rock god.

  • Besides being such a great song, this is one of the best live performances I've ever seen.

  • I love the Beatles but I am astounded by the Kinks.

  • "A little known album track." Not anymore.

  • Am I the only one who believe that The Kinks are better than the beatles.

  • @killergirbot No. You are absolutely right. The Beatles were great of course, but the Kinks were better

  • @killergirbot i'm starting to...and the beatles have been my favorite band since i could walk. :X

  • Brilliant! Even better than the album version. Looks good, sounds good. Except Ray looks like Norman Gunston,

  • Fuck yeah, fuck yeah. This is wit.

  • god save the village green!

    great :)

  • 0 dislikes what does that tell ya!

  • all of us...we are the village green preservation society

  • Ray Davies is a genius

  • Mick Avory was such a vital part of the Kinks.

  • @llenllenllenl What a great drummer! So understated!

  • awesome album! "God save the little shops, china cups, and virginity".

  • such an epic album

  • Superb!

  • This is fantastic with the brass band, even better than the album version. Dave sounds perfect, like a husky angel

  • Wow!!!! I totally missed out on this (being born in 1965). Just discovered this album today and there are 7 bonifide gems on this album (Title track, Last of The Steam Trains, Big Sky, Sitting By The Riverside, Village Green, Phenominal Cat, Wicked Anabella). That will bump Beatles Revolver to Number 3 for me and now this is ONLY behind Sgt Pepper. as my all time favorite. Its like discovering lost treasure - I will be up all night. (A few throwaways make it imperfect).

  • eternal ...

  • Thanks, so much, Woogie.

The States join with Britain to pray God save the Kinks.

  • SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOOOOOOOOOOOOMB!!

  • I love Dave's voice in this one. I think the camera tries to capture that too!

  • Totally undereated and unappreaciated besides the fact they're the greattest band ever.

  • @eltoroo69 look..i was 18 in 1969 and saw them about 3 times live. i sat in with them in 1974 as they did their whole sound check for hours,,it was fantastic....in santa monica. i saw all the bands,,lived the whole era full out.

i do think that ray davies is absolutely within the top 5 all time greatest songwriters of that era. but he wasnt the best...trust me. my list goes john&paul,,,richards,,,townshed,,,then ray. then,,,the yardbirds.

  • @CHUCKLOVES1969 Yardbirds? they didn't even write any of their big hits - they were written by Graham Gouldman who also wrote Bus Stop and Look Through Any Window by the Hollies - he was in the great band 10cc in the 1970's just so you know. Beatles Who and Stones had great songs in the 60's and 70's, but the Kinks put out great songs until 1997 and Ray is still writing great songs (Check out Working Man's Cafe) Going to see Ray with his latest Choral Kinks tour on Nov25/11.

  • @Mindermaniac.....yeah,,,he did write,, for your,,heart full..and evil hearted, which is basically incredible,,but i'm talking about,,a band as a whole..and the impression they left on the music scene ie,,lead guitar..need i not go into them. i should of meant that in my comment. when i got something else and village green,,those albums made me think..wow.oh wow,,this Ray is much more than a rock star.. have a great time,,seeing a true, real life song "master"

  • Outstanding

  • thanx

    GOD SAVE THE KINKS

  • excelente canción/great song

    excelente calidad/great quality

    congratulations!
