  • Really nice!!

The 421 was, and is, a force to be reckoned with. My dad had a '59 Catalina with a 421 and that thing FLEW! IIRC the inventor of that engine was Malcolm McKellar or something like that- he earned a BIG gold star, no doubt!

  • Can't wait to see the Ventura. Had that trim option in '68 with the 400, 4 bbl automatic. Only wish I ordered the 2+2 option even without the 2+2 badging.

  • Hell with the gas mileage lol died laughing. Love the sound of this one. Just grabed me a 1963 Bonneville 389ci, wish it was a 4 speed but still a very nice car, plenty of pep. Just needs interior resto, but extreior looks good enough, still turns heads like no other.

  • One of the nicest dashes ever put in an automobile anywhere!!

I hated seeing those in the wrecking yards back in the 80's.

  • How's cupcake?

  • @FourQed She's just fine - thank you for asking - she's waiting for nice weather so we can shoot more muscle boat vids...

  • Awesome man. I still have my 1966 2+2 from high school (1988) and even though everybody else thought it looked like the bat mobile, I loved that car. Has the 421 tri-power with the automatic tranny. Got the factory manifold gauge, AC, power steering, power brakes, AM/FM radio...and the factory Reverberator! That was the coolest thing on the car. The reverberating radio! Also has the 8 lug wheels. Man, I have got to get off 4th point of contact and restore that thing.

  • NIce car and nice shoes. I have the same shoes...just wish I had the same car. Great videos. If this video and no pictures and only sound, you could tell it was a Pontiac...they have a sound all of thier own!!!

  • @luvtheoldstuff Then you'll enjoy the sounds of a '68 Ventura with 428 4 speed... stay tuned...

  • i think the vid shows little of the potential of these cars.the guy should learn how to shift.i wonder what axle ratio this could have had with A/C?

  • @nomiclas Car is now in Austin, TX. Got a full resto...

  • wet spot

  • nice shoes, shame we didnt see the car ?

  • @bluedoris88 I agree. All our newer vids show the cars.

  • i used to own one of these -- the original sports sedan. mine was white/black interior, bucket seats, hurst 4 spd, 421ci 4bbl, positrac, and the wheels were the cast-spoke style with the wide lugnut pattern. i bought the car in 1970 when i was 17 from a guy that had "too many cars." 36,000 orig miles on the odo---paid $700.00. unbelievable. boy do i wish i still had this one.

  • I love old Ponchos.

  • Lol love it let go threw the neighborhood beraaaaap...chirp.. it's handy when everyone is at work lol good shit bud your my idol nice car I'm

  • Great car! That's what a V-8 should sound like! I had a '68 catalina 400, 4 barrel back in the day, but it did'nt sound that good.

  • @maverick4719 It's a healthy one (all stock, too).

  • We could use a pic of this car Bernie!!!

  • @gokomets77 Yeah I know - I'll see what I can do... Good to see you again!

  • 2 radios?

  • @omgbbqcia911 Looks like 2 radios - one closest the driver is heater/ac/vent control.

  • You're going to snap poor Cupcake's neck!

  • @eddie054 Thanks for your concern, but she's a really sturdy car lady!

  • I recently removed a 421 sourced from 65 Catalina years ago from my Goat (developed a rod knock). It was a nice motor. I had stock 67 400 heads on it. Tacked up quick as hell. Also spark knocked unless it had fresh 93 octane in it, but I was recording fuel mileage in the 16 mpg range which is what my minivan gets in town. Not too shabby for a supposed "gas guzzling lead sled". lol Nice car you got there.

  • Nice running Pontiac. It should easily dip into the 13 second range in the quarter mile. No offense, but was that spark knock I heard a little, or something else? Could have been audio artifacts in the recording or something.

  • @skunkpunk29 Thank you! No offense taken. Always good to hear from somebody who knows what 'spark knock' is! Probably the 92 octane...

  • why does it have 2 radios?

  • @montey1017 Hello, looks like two radios - the other is the hvac controls - a Pontiac exclusive feature!

  • @4spdBernie thats actually pretty cool...nice car, thanks for sharing

  • @montey1017 Thank you! It's A LOT OF F-U-N!

  • Just hoping to pick one of these up in the UK this week! Really really excited, especially after hearing it roar in your video! :) Will be my first classic car, and left hand drive. Can't wait to get it rolling :D

  • @wesclot CONGRATULATIONS! A couple nice bacon strips, please...

  • hot rodding it! love these videos

  • @ghosthuntertango Happy to oblige!

  • Ya holdin on Cupcake

  • Looks like that car might have some torque.

  • @1956MercM260 That it does!!

  • to hell with the gas mileage!

  • i remember i posted a comment about my grandfather's 66 catalina. he passed away recently and he left it to me. ill probably post a video soon. needs a tune up but still drives nice. still fun to watch this vid.

  • @Ronsky89 Get that Cat' runnin'!

  • @4spdBernie Awesome car. I was wondering if thefactory air conditioning works. thanks!

  • @itsmegp46 No cold a/c.

  • @4spdBernie Thanks for the reply. I sure hope you plan on repairing it.

  • @itsmegp46 The a/c received a full restoration along with the rest of the car! It now resides in the Austin, TX area...

  • PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER VIDEO BUT SHOW THE OUTSIDE AS WELL . PONTIACS ROCK !

  • @ponyyak68 OK!! Thank you -

  • The HELL w/ the Gas Milage This is to fun!

  • @ponyyak68 YES!

  • "You're wondering about the gas mileage? To hell with the gas mileage!"

    hahahaha

  • i never knew these came with 4 speed trannys..thats awesome!

  • @savator408 They did, but very low production.

  • @4spdBernie my friends dad who passed away has one all original...His daughter now has it...I had 69 442 4 speed and i had to sell it because i had to move and didn't have room to park it anywhere because i live at a apartment now...had 72 lemans sport automatic before that but when i bought the 442 4 speed i fell in love with it because you can really feel the muscle when you shift the gears on a stick shift...Now a days they are expensive...i got lucky like 10 years ago when i bought mine

  • @4spdBernie i bought my 72 lemans sport that had a GTO front end for $500 bucks and my 69 442 4 speed for $2400 lol...Now you can't even buy them that cheap anymore lol...Everyone wants one now...

  • Too many of these old cars don't get taken out and driven hard anymore ..... great video!

  • @RulerOfEverything Thank you! We agree - gotta drive 'em - don't hide 'em.

  • why is there 2 radios?

  • @Mr420fighter Hello, Looks like two radios but one is the heater/vent controls.

  • Your my new hero....lol Thanks for getting on it... made me SMILE.... sounds great. :)

  • @jsc9306 Hello! You're welcome. Happy to oblige. Now that it's stopped raining more vids in the works - stay tuned...

  • Cup Kakes is scared to death DadyO!

  • @TRASUPO Not any more! Now SHE'S the driver!

  • Part 1

My brother blew the stock 400 duce in my parent's 67 Pontiac Cataline. Dad dropped in a 400 cu HO, w/quadrajet out of a 68 GTO (he tossed in dual exhaust for good measure. As the main driver of this 3 sp auto sleeper(?) from 72'-73', I got pretty used to it. With it's 2.xx rear end it was a pig out of the hole, but at a 40mph roll, the quad's 2nd'rys (buckets) would open up and this 2 ton sedan would SCREAM. I was with Dad once when he had it up to 75 in 1st. I've taken it up to 80...

  • PART 2

and easily buried the speedometer in 2nd.As I was imortal back then, some 37 years ago, yes I put it in drive and kept it floored. The tourque of the 400 and highway gearing kept pulling that screamin pig until this imortal started to get nervious when the speedometer started bounce then break, falling to 0mph. I don't know exactly how fast I was going, but I was trying to time the mile markers and I estimated it somewhere around 160-165mph+/-, with a bit of peddle left.

  • is that two raido

  • @scottyrevolution Hello, Looks like two radios but one is the heater/vent controls. Pontiac!

  • You are riding the clutch. Keep your foot off it if you are not shifting. Otherwise it will wear out in short time.

  • @tisabmw Thanks for the note!

  • We like Cup Cake! True Car Girl!!

  • Love the horizonal speedometer. Those rock! I once considered a car just like this, but it was so far gone with rust I passed on it.

  • @PotatoGunsRule Thanks for the note - keep looking for that dream Pontiac! You only live once...

  • Great video, Bernie. I've got a '65 2+2, 421 Tri-Power 4-speed. Also have a Corvette, but it sits in the garage unused as the Pontiac is so much fun. There's nothing like 4200+ pounds of Poncho rolling up the asphalt, punching through the gears.

For those concerned with gas mileage, I average 16.5 on long highway trips.Of course, the 1/4 mile trips are considerably lower.

If you like Big Pontiac's, check out my site at Pontiac2plus2Registry.

If you have a 2+2, you're invited to register it.

  • Gas mileage? It would be awful. Acceleration? Quick.

  • And are those uh, factory floor mats there? lol A 4 spd 421 and she's asking questions about floor mats.

  • @buixrule Believe me, Cupcake is tuned into big motors - the cardboard floor mats is an inside joke we've been sharing when and where we can.

  • @4spdBernie Cool, Nice car man.

  • let me drive that baby

  • @689321546 It's in TX - fully restored and mean as ever...

  • @4spdBernie ...makes me want to buy another one again.......you know whats funny back when you could have brought them for hardly nothing .....such a great car ...pontiac is the best

  • Scare the old ladys and chirldren HAHAHAHAHA

  • @izzynutz2000 Stay tuned...

  • Comment removed

  • @The1deffence Hello, I will try that in my next vid but it'll be a hot dog and then apple pie in our '59 Chevrolet.

    Stay tuned...

  • Comment removed

  • Was this a tri power 2+2?

  • @DuNZCruiser Hello, No - just one carb - a stock single Carter 4 barrel.

  • I love my 66 so much, I sold my 4 door and regretted it so much I bought the first 2 door I could find. this is the best muscle car i have ever driven,I drove and olds, chevy and ford, but the 66 catalina is the car of my dreams. The gas mileage, even @4.30 a gallon is worth it when I can blow the doors off any rice rocket or neveau muscle car on the block

  • To hell with the gas mileage! LOL! That's great, I agree.

  • Woopsy! lol awsome car

  • Comment removed

  • My dad sometimes tells me stories of my grandfather sometimes street racing his Catalina. His had air, the 421, and an automatic. Too bad it didn't become the family car we pass down.

  • We had a 1966 Catalina Station Wagon while I was growing up... I don't miss 10-11 mpg but other than that I miss the car!! It was beautiful. We sold it in 1980.

  • To all the hamster wheel driven imports out there...This is 2 tons of PONTIAC THUNDER baby !!!

  • 421, 4 speed, Pontiac, WOW ! Great Video ! Looking at your videos, you get to drive a lot of cool cars !

  • sweet! grew up in a 66 2+2 black and F A S T

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! TO HELL WITH GAS MILAGE!!!!!

  • I love my old pontiac. I own a 64 Catalina 2+2 421 4speed. Just funny to see the look on People's faces when their civic gets walked by a huge old car.

  • Hello and thanks for the note! Priceless!

  • @catalina1990 haha....word...:-)....

  • @catalina1990 I know man! I've got a '71 Mercury Marquis with a 2bbl 429 and people think its a sluggish tank. It may be old but boy its got a power plant.

  • Compression Scratch!!

  • Yes it was! Good ear!

  • @4spdBernie I grew up with compression scratch between Tombstone Az and Naco Mexico, home of the dead and inexpensive senorita dates....Sierra Vista Az. A new '64 Malibu 327 4speed and no posi. Compression scratch was required near school, in public, around girls, almost everywhere.

  • I tried to respond with a text update on my flooded Catalina, but I think just the video got uploaded. She's alive. Next spring, body work!

  • how many miles to the gallon??

    miles? HAHAHAHAHA!!!

  • to hell with the gas mileage !!!!!! i so agree

  • Hello! Looks like 2 radios but one is the heater/aircond controls.

  • You have two radios?

  • Nothing like getting the best sounding 4 mile per gallon Pontiac out there. You rock.

  • Thanks - but YOU rock - YOU relate to the sound of a great motor!!

  • That is a huge ass engine.

  • That it is! Wait 'til Cupcake and I do a Pontiac Ventura 428 4 spd vid...

  • weekend at bernie's LOL a good time is guaranteed to all!!!

  • WEEKEND??? Make that EVERYDAY!! Thanks for the note.

  • This guys is livin' the live!

  • We're only here one time! Gotta do what we wanna do.

  • What about the gas milage? Hell with the gas milage, its too much fun. hahaha. Awesome vid

  • You ride the clutch a lot. Don't need to depress it until ready to shift or stop. I notice your foot keeps it down while you are thinking about stopping. Not good in the long run.

  • Hello and thanks for the note. I think it must be the camera angle. No clutch ridin' here, but dbl clutchin' yes - guilty as charged.

  • yeah the hell with the gas mileage!!

  • my guess its a 421 TRI-POWER

  • Good guess! 421 but a 4bbl.

  • I had the GTO version... 3x2/4spd/4.33 posi...I can relate

  • Damn!!!! I miss these real cars!

  • Eric, I'm itching for more videos

  • Hi Rob! Soon....very soon... Ck out the '64 Cyclone vid - be sure to turn up da volume.

  • Your car came factory 376hp 461 tq shame you didnt keep it very few made with a 4 speed only 6382 total for the 2+2 that year but even fewer with a 4 speed

  • Hello, yes, I hear you - but I just can't keep 'em all. The new owner is treating this 2+2 to a full restoration - it's almost done - and he's promised it will be a driver & not a trailer queen.

  • @4spdBernie Yeah i understand, ive found a 64 2+2 in good shape body wise im thinking of using my 4 door hardtop to finish it but the price has gotta come down a bit first.

  • Yeah my brakes feel as if they are huge disk brakes, had to use them last night to keep from hitting a deer but my car is really far from stock as far as the engine trans and rearend go. the rest is pretty much as it came in 64

  • My grandfather had a '64 Catalina with the 389 - that puppy could MOVE when you hit go-pedal and STOP when you touched the brake! I remember that the heater and radio looked identical, the heater had "PONTIAC HEATER" engraved onthe control. Very unusual, great car!!

  • Hello and thanks for the note! These old Pontiacs (as you well remember) do M-O-V-E!

  • Hey check out my 1964 bonneville video. Love the car btw

  • Will do -

  • miss my 66 catalina :)

  • Awww I love it!!!!!!!!!!!! I drive the same way, and I'm female lol. But no joke, get me behind a Pontiac and watch out. Love your car. Thanks for the video.

  • Hey, you're wlecome. Thanks for the note!

  • Gas mileage was irrelevant being priced at 35¢ per gallon.

  • nice sound she is very fast

    thx for the video.

  • You are very welcome! Thank you for the note.

  • Hope you bought an automatic. You're a terrible 4 speed driver

  • Hi Jim! You must own a tranny & u-joint shop & towing service. Thanks for the comment!

  • Nice!!!!

  • Thank you, It was a very fun car. SHOULD NOT HAVE SOLD IT!!

  • Is that a Super T 10? Does it have a noticeable gear whine?

  • Just a little in 2nd. Sounded great combined with the carb secondaries wide open!

  • Who cares about gas mileage when you have awesome machines like these, Not like their daily drivers. How much HP and TQ does it have?

  • I never dynoed it; all stock.

  • What a beauty! I've always loved the Catalina's dash!

  • Thanks for the note. Yes, a very SA-WEEEET dash design.

  • what did the 2 + 2 stand for.

  • Hello, Very good question! Pontiac sales guys were on a roll with tongue-in-cheek pokes at Ferrari - first was "GTO", followed by 2 + 2. Initially in '64 2 + 2 was a trim upgrade but by '66 a separate Pontiac model - when ordering your new '66 Pontiac and you ck'd the 2 + 2 box you got a 421, buckets, console. Quite a package for not a lotta dough.

  • nice car, love those 2 + 2's back in the day i had a all white with red buckets,421 tri power , 8 lug's & red lines.

  • Hello, Thank you. White on red! SA-WEEEET!! Maybe it's time you looked for that car...

  • My dad had one of these, but with the automatic trans. Boy I wish he'd kept it - it was a big, powerful fun car.

  • Your Dad knew what power REALLY was!

  • two radios??? awsome cars you were lucky id never sell t

  • Just 1 radio. Heater & a/c control styled to look like a radio!

  • Nice car but you don't really get a sense of the cars speed or performance unless you film through the windshield; all I could see was the dashboard the whole time. I'd hoped to get a better feel for it...maybe if you lent me the keys for awhile...=D

  • Sorry, I no longer have keys to hand over - the 2+2 has a new owner in TX treating it to a full restoration. When completed, he'll likely have a spare set...

  • i like how the air conditioning controller looks just like the radio lol

  • God, I love the sound of Muscle cars!

  • Turn the A/C on !!!!!!

  • sick car man i love full sized gm cars. exspecially pontiac. pontiac rules.

  • Pontiac rules. Agreed!!

  • So I was looking for a project and ended up finding a steal that I couldn't pass up. Point is I now have a pretty clean 72 Chevelle that I can't do any work on! So I want to create a little work for myself and swap that 350 turbo automatic for a M21 or M20. Andy advice anyone?

  • HAhaha Nice, I got a 1967 Pontiac Bonneville!, Automatic, and everything stock im going to start RestorinG!, And suggestions!?

  • Great cars! Restoration advice? Go easy - a little at a time - don't turn it into huge project - above all, keep it fun! Good luck and keep me updated as you progress.

  • @4spdBernie YEahh no problem, If you'd like, you can send me your email. And i can email you a pic of the Bonneville (:

  • great video, its not often a younger pontiac enthusiast like my self gets to see a 60's 2+2 jamming gears, thanks.

  • more gas mileage = less fun

  • You got that righ!!

  • Out of curiosity, do you always ride the clutch like that? Or is it just cause you are shifting a lot. Well a lot by suburbia standards.... Sweet ride, GM ALL THE WAY

  • Hello,

Not riding the clutch; yes shifting alot due to heavy traffic. Thank you. Pontiac was once a cornerstone of GM...
