nice informative video. i've started very recently gardening and found that mulching is really helpful. i had a lawn where i used to grow peas and it was full of weeds. but then recently i've covered first papers and then put soil on top of that and then again some brows leaves/grass clippings and now i don't see those invaders. mulch is great i would say. cheers, joydeep
Hey Greg, at 3:00 what type of tree/plant is that in the pot? Its really nice looking, I want to put one on my patio here in Los Angles, do you think it would grow? Thanks for the awesome videos!
Im all for mulching and do it in my own yard, but I recently done a clients yard mulched the front and back, it looks fantastic and her plants are doing well, but now, there is no work for me there as even in winter there is no weeds coming up so I've done myself out of a job!
I'm subscribed to a dozen of different channels & I see over and over that pets (dogs, cats, and now I see horses too) try to take human attention. When somebody is talking to a camera, cats, dogs etc, are pooling your attention away, trying to destruct you. What's going on? Why they do that? May be Greg's horse thinks that he is going crazy talking to a small box, instead of talking to another human. I think they used to see human talking to another human, not to a box.
we are having the hardest time with mulch and I think it's because we aren't using enough... far too light. Oh well. We have enough fallen trees that we could chip ourselves I guess.
Father Stripy-gardener,I live in a Hot summer climate(Southern California)and I have problems knowing when to water my veggie garden. The plants seem to wilt easily in the heat...but its also easy to over-react and water to much. What is a good indication for watering in hot climates, and when you've watered to much? Mulching sounds like it might control the evaporation better and help with the crab-grass?
@Thereminator101 as long as the drainage is good, it doesn't matter how much water your garden gets, mulch will save you watering and stop the crab grass, keep it away from the stems though.
@Thereminator101 you should add some corse potting mix and turn over the garden bed to make it drain better, try and raise it up above ground level a bit
What a sweet animal! My garden is fully mulched. I almost never trim the grass, and if I do, I often don't clear up the cuttings. And the part where my mad plum trees live, is mega mulched with last years plums (that didn't get eaten) and leaves and any grass cuttings I manage to remember to pick up, and cat poo too.
@GodlessManitoban manure helps your plants while also adding humus to the soil, sheep manure is one of the best types of fertilizer, sheep manure contains more nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash than both horse and cow manure.
so do you have to be careful of the type of mulch you use on the type of plants... ? are there some mulches that aren't good for certain types of plants...
Sooooo beautiful!!! Horsey!!! Horsey!!! He must have liked your energy. What a beautiful animal he is! Oh, and I LOVE mulch, love the smell of it, I could sniff bags of it all day long.....
@TheOtherSide100 put the mulch right over the weeds and save the trouble of weeding :) make sure it's 3 to 4 inches thick, no more, no less for best results
WOW Greg.. your acting and talking normal ...hahaha HEEEEAPS better video :-))))).....

@GregsKitchen Thanks,I think the drainage is bad so it puts me in a narrow area as far as deciding when to water.I'll try the mulch.

Is it good to keep the mulch away from the plant/tree to avoid rot?
My back area is getting weeds, so I'm gonna pull them and try mulch. Thanks!
