I still cherish the days I spent in a rehabilitation center for injured wildlife of all types. Everything from majestic eagles to loveable opossums. I only wish more people would participate. Maybe they'd learn that all life is adorable; not just that which we're indoctrinated to adore.
i have a bad memory about an opossum...i feel so bad about what happened because they really are beautiful animals and i wish i could take back that event. i dont want to say wat it was because i know i will get hazed for it.
All animals become like this when you raise them from being a baby. You feed them and you give them water to drink and you keep them away from danger. They understand all this and they see you as being one of them and act differently around you. Nature you are amazing!
That is an awesome video and a wonderful thing you have done rescuing a baby opossum. My wife and I rescued a baby opossum last year in our back yard that had been injured and abandoned by it's mom. We took it in and it is just like a part of the family now. It is somewhat handicapped like yours but if we had not rescued it, it would be dead now, I'm sure. Their fur is so surprisingly soft too. Someone once brought one into my Dad's veterinary clinic, it was a mother opossum who her dog had attacked. All the babies were too big to fit in the pouch any longer, but were so scared they had their heads stuffed in it. I held her steady for my dad while he removed her hanging eye and sutured it up. She was badly injured, but survived.
So adorable! I wish someone bred them as pets. I would dearly love to have one as a pet, but I sure wouldn't wish for one to be orphaned for that to happen. There used to be some wild ones that would come and eat the cat food for the outside cats at our house. They would fuss when we touched them, but were always gentle.
I have two baby opossums, that i love very much. dogs killed two off them in our yard. We took the other two in and saved them. I gave them puppy milk till they got teeth and learn how to eat own there own. there getting big know so i have to let them go. I hope they will be okay.

I saved A possum baby in Braymer Mo and took tare of of it they make really good pets they know who feeds em, I was sitting with friends at a fire when she sashaye,d up to my side and sat there, the girls jumped up in there chairs, I reached down and picked up Baby and put her in my lap, and petted her back. now she"s all the talk of Braymer.

I had one of those, he got into my house through the chimney and we were fattening him up for someone else but he became our pet, until gave him to my when I got married...it was kind of fun, my nephew kept him but let him get away two years later. We named him Opie,and loved pork rinds

i found one today not sure male of female while riding around in a dune buggy we came accross the little thing in the middle of the road and just got missed by a car i am a hunter and have killed many of them but yet love them i have owed one back when i was young the little he or she is about the size as the one you have when you first got him how do you go about tameing him? mine was to young to not be tame when i got her
so cute! when you get to know those little weird animals, you have to love them! so nice and curious! here in Brazil we have some off them and I was lucky to raise some ho lost the mother... good luck whit our cut pet!

God created humans in his image and animals to serve us. I think his only purpose for cockroaches was to feed the opossums as he created fish and animals for us. Also, maybe to remind some people when it is time to clean their kitchens!
God put these animals on the earth to clean it. They are the cleaners of the earth meaning they will anything dead, they kill rats and mice and roaches. If you prefer to have more rats, mice and roaches then that would be your reason for not liking these amazing marsupials. If not then just leave them alone and let them do what God meant for them to do!

It hurts to know people kill these poor things out of ignorance... They couldnt fight a housecat off.. Some people blame them for killing their pets, when it was often their own neglect, and find the oppossum scavenging the remains of their puppy/cat/etc... Then they kill the oppossum.. Whenever i see one on my property, i leave some strawberries and mealworms out for it. It's the least i can do. Unlike raccoons, these are no threat and cant give you rabies.
This is why it's important to research proper nutrition of your pet's species... MBD is a result of poor husbandry of the animal, and poor feeding habits. It's easily preventable with the right diet and a healthy intake of calcium rich foods.

As long as he isn't in pain, I think this is great. I've never understood the aversion to these little guys. Just be sure that if his disease gets worse, you don't let him suffer because YOU can't handle his death.

@CosmicGrounds Roaches are the ultimate survivors! I admire them for their ability to live around us, even though we are trying so hard to eliminate them. If you learn WHAT makes them so tough to kill, you will understand the correlation between their survival skills and their appearance. THAT'S when they will start looking beautiful to you. Yes opossums can get rabies, but it's extremely rare. The only time they can get rabies is if they get ill and their body temperature drops.
In fact, you are more likely to get rabis than an opossum. ;)

God put these animals on the earth to clean it. They are the cleaners of the earth meaning they will anything dead, they kill rats and mice and roaches. If you prefer to have more rats, mice and roaches then that would be your reason for not liking these amazing marsupials. If not then just leave them alone and let them do what God meant for them to do!

Hmmmm....."Possum stew...shoo-bee-doooo".....in parts of the South and the Appalachian Mountains, they make good eatin'. Especially braised with gravy over rice.

It hurts to know people kill these poor things out of ignorance... They couldnt fight a housecat off.. Some people blame them for killing their pets, when it was often their own neglect, and find the oppossum scavenging the remains of their puppy/cat/etc... Then they kill the oppossum.. Whenever i see one on my property, i leave some strawberries and mealworms out for it. It's the least i can do. Unlike raccoons, these are no threat and cant give you rabies.

This is why it's important to research proper nutrition of your pet's species... MBD is a result of poor husbandry of the animal, and poor feeding habits. It's easily preventable with the right diet and a healthy intake of calcium rich foods.

As long as he isn't in pain, I think this is great. I've never understood the aversion to these little guys. Just be sure that if his disease gets worse, you don't let him suffer because YOU can't handle his death.

@CosmicGrounds Roaches are the ultimate survivors! I admire them for their ability to live around us, even though we are trying so hard to eliminate them. If you learn WHAT makes them so tough to kill, you will understand the correlation between their survival skills and their appearance. THAT'S when they will start looking beautiful to you. BUT if you are too lazy to learn, you will always think that the ONLY beautiful thing on Earth is your sister-in-law's butt ;))
