First of all, you get the Playtv Icon under your Tv section in the XMB, when you buy the

Playtv Device not through a software update.

Second of all, this video was aired in 2008. Sony and Playtv have constantly updated the playtv software making it better and better, i have one and i get over 100 channels and i live Cambridgeshire. dont listen a word she is saying

You could just export the programme from the PlayTV to your PS3 harddrive, then (you might have to change the file type using a website like media-convert) then u CAN watch ANY programme you like on your PSP (but it takes up an awfull lot of space, way easier to just watch it through remote play thing and catch on the shows in your library.

This is great and all but there is no point in PlayTv if you have SKY or any cable. I find the comments all below a bit odd, unless you guys don't have SKY (I mean who doesn't ?) then I don't see the point in this. I have PS3 and I'm new to it but I just don't find this machine engaging, and I'm starting to understand why the 360 continues to outsell it. 360 has a lot of issues too but it nailed down the whole ''xbox live community'' part so perfect it makes PSN look like a joke. Hi not recording in 1080p is no big deal, as most tv transmissions are only 1080i anyway don't know about the rest of the world but in Australia 1080i is max resolution for tv transmissions

playtv is uk based, freeview is now what has replaced terrestrial tv, the free 40-50 channels you get without having to buy cable or sky satellite tv. so if your not in uk playtv may not apply to you

Currently no DRM on the latest update (UK anyway), so you can "Export to XMB" then copy across to your PC to watch or encode for your PSP, iPod etc.

You pretty much need to upgrade the HDD though as recordings can be up to 2GB per hour depending on the channels bitrate stream. Easily done with the PS3 though, you can get a 320GB-500GB HDD for £40-£50

They're not so great themselves really are they? Especially when using them seems forced for the sake of using them. And, especially when you consider free alternatives such as iTunes and Ventrillo do a much better job of both.

You're right in that as a whole they are positioned differently. The truth of this being that PS3 is positioned as being "better than" the 360. But they are most certainly not like comparing an "iPhone to a laptop".

It's just like cable, I have foxtel and i can plug my foxtel aerial into the slot and watch all and record all of my foxtel programs, so i can also record them on foxtrel IQ, and also watch and record on my ps3.. It's awesome, so i can record 3 shows at once with my cable tv and watch one at the same time, this owns, and it's always good to be able to watch tv through ps3.. FUCK U XBOX

You can get recordings onto a psp with a work around. Just copy stuff to the xmb copy on to a thumb drive or external hdd. Then transcode the file on your pc with handbrake. While direct psp recordings would be nice well it's not impossible to do either

First of all, it does support HD where it's broadcast using DVB-T. The UK does not broadcast HD content terrestrially currenty, and, when it does, will be using DVB-T2. No hardware currently exists on the market which is compatible with this system. If a version comes out with DVB-T2 tuners (which would raise the cost to something like £100-£150) then I'd be very very interested. As it stands, it's still a fantastic product compared to other current UK PVRs.
