I always wonder why old recordings sound more sonorous and cantabile. The modus operandi of the master is a singing manner, with great suspense. He looks for the phrases over the bars, always avoiding square-toed classical rust. The technology of the piano and the technical equipment for the recording also add to the longing pageantry. A very intimate glimpse in the souls of two great poets!
Cortot is just amazing when it comes to perform Chopin pieces, he is yet aristocratic but restricted, yet sad but emotive, he really capted the soul of the master´s music, this video is unvaluable, thanks for sharing!

I know Chopin is supposed to be the tour de force of Cortot but the farewell waltz as played here isn't.... His Schumann is much more poetic...

Some pianists fail to capture the person and feelings of Chopin, but Cortot indeed does a splendid job.

I personally believe Cortot is the closest we will ever come to knowing what Chopin himself sounded like at the piano.
There's something in his blood.

i like the PLEYEL. I believe it represents Chopin's music more :) it is somehow a romantic piano. maybe thats why Chopin preferred Pleyel !
