  • During my theology course, my lecturer in the Christian Ethics unit tried to tell us that this was an ethical issue. We should be against it to "protect the sanctity of marriage" (not an ethical point at all but pure dogma).

I immediately thought of all the nice hetro marriages where there is domestic violence or constant bickering. Marriage has no sanctity in itself. It is only as sacred as the couple makes it, and on that level yours seems more sacred than most!

  • Well I really hope "the land of the free" catches up with Portugal, Argentina and South Africa.(We're always making fun of Islamist countries huh) lol. Oh and I hope the land of the free get's rid of the Patriot Act. (Too KGB for my taste)

  • Your right! We must make gay marriage legalized evry where! This way it will be quicker to legalized rights for pedophiles, zoophiles, people who want to marry their siblings and who want polygamy! They are natural as well, you know.

  • Thank you for your story. It was very touching

  • Lalalindsay, actually, just to correct you, marriage originated from religion, and religion prohibited same sex marriage, which essentially disqualifies your entire comment.

  • Not sure how to take your comment, or whos side your on, but if you are being negative heres what I have to say. Maybe we should throw the word marriage out, call it Union, and still give gay people the exact same legal rights as straight couples, then we would finally have civil rights without religon sticking its nose in.

  • Wonderful story!

Yeah I feel sorry for you guys in Cali, here in Canada of course we can still get married. Keep on fighting and one day equality will happen!

  • i seriously don't get why anybody can be against gay marrage its not like its hurting anyone and if you don't believe its moraly correct then why should you care about trying to stop somone elses happyness? and to stop somones marrage without there concent and just do it by law? that is just horrible. just so those people out there can get their stupid little wish of having no gay marriage like its gonna be happening somewhere people!

  • i adore you for posting this. so many people are too blind to see that marriage is for everyone. you can't take away that right because someone is different than you. it's ridiculous how prejudiced people can be. just because you are gay, it doesn't mean you are any worse of a person. people need to open up their eyes and see that a gay marriage is just as strong and pure and as a heterosexual marriage.
  • I cant see how they can give something like the right to marriage and than just take it away. Its surreal, like any right can be taken away; we're talking about the right to marry its one of those rights.

  • Dont people realize how happy you can make a person just by giving them a basic right that alot of hetero's take for granted? In a world devoid of happiness, cant we just give them that I mean you don't have to be gay or allow them to marry in your church.

  • I'm Mormon and just for the record, I think you are just the reason Gay marriage should be and ultimately will be accepted in America

  • If it happens its Gods judgment by handing them over to a depraved mind.

  • I really like what he says about it not being about religion.

He makes a good point that nobody should agree with it, and nobody should be forced to if it goes against their beliefs.

Gay marriage shouldn't be about religion, it should be strictly about rights and equality.

  • they want to FORCE our churches and pastors to accept and wed homosexuals!!

  • no they don't.

Pastors have never been forced to do anything.

The way I see it is that it should purely be a political rights issue.

And "marriage" should be decided by people's chosen religions.

After all, that's what marriage is, isn't it?

So if EVERYONE had a civil union of sorts, and had the same rights under the laws, and then whoever wanted to could get married by their chosen church...

it just seems like that would be pretty reasonable.

  • how are gay people supposed to have kids?

  • Adoption, sperm bank(for lesbians), and surrogacy.

  • Never on 8!!!!! How in the Fuck can this prop even be on the ballot?

  • They shouldn't have been able to revoke your license! It's not right! I agree that it should be a legal thing, which means it doesn't matter what religious fundamentalists of any religion have to say! I hope you're able to marry again someday, best of luck :).

  • wow. :( this vid makes me so sad. some1 msg me!! xD H

  • shut the fuck up! like being controlled? :) 9

  • California property that is owned in joint tenancy does not realize the right of survivor ship? Learn something new everyday.

    Nota

  • your story really touched me..

and even though your marriage only lasted for a little while..i am so happy that you did have that time.

and i really hope that the US makes same sex marriage legal.

I hope that you get to call Richard(?) your husband again!!

    Best of wishes to you!!!

  • why?

  • 19 yrs Mike...my God...you dont look old enough.....whats the secret?

  • Together 19 years? Since you were 15? No waaaay!

Well, I can say that gays being able to wed in Cali is loooong overdue. It's unbelievable that it took until 2008 to pass. Gay marriage became legal 2 or 3 years ago here in CZ. It went over fairly easily here, considering this is the most atheist country in Europe. In other ways this country can be quite conservative, though.

  • Well I think this time it can be legal. I think you have to hurry though because I think they get to revote on it or something somewhere. I think the supreme court. So get it done again I think. So it can set in. I don't think they can revoke it this time. And this time I think if you hurry, they have to recognize it.

  • you're a nice guy !

  • ROMANS 1

  • first of all, there has already BEEN a pride parade in Jerusalem, get your facts straight you wanker. secondly, if you think that "arabs" (or extremist muslims) dislike the US cause of gay marriage, i suggest you get a hobby and stop acting like you know politics. and who the fuck are you to say what's unnatural (yes, it's one word)? unnatural is, in my opinion, the extremist islamic tradition of decapitating teenage girls for not wearing their headscarves properly.

    cheers.

  • Get a clue sherlock...you are an ass. The middle east HATES us because America won't "mind its own business"...keep swallowing that FOX news Kool-aid...fool!

  • The Greeks have been preforming marriage before the concept of Christianity or Islam have ever been thought of... And we all know the Greeks were gay... so try again with that tradition shit....

  • Before them the Pagans. In pagan days gays were treated the same as straight people. No difference at all.

And that's the religion that the majority (including Christianity) of all religions were created from.

  • and Then God flooded the earth.

  • wrong, and then the Christians came in slaughtering anyone who would not conform to their beliefs

  • sorry im not catholic, even still how are you going to hold todays catholics accountable for something that took place 900+ years ago?

the bible doesnt teach that anyways ;)

  • I completely agree with everything you have to say here, and I thank you for sharing your story with us. I'll head over to that website.

It sickens me that in a nation which claims to have separation of church and state and recognizes in all of it's laws that race, religion, and gender mustn't have anything to do with rights, that we still can't recognize equal rights for persons of differing sexual orientation.

  • I cant beleive how fucked up the US is ... and what an embarassment to North America. In Canada, long before we were able to marry... we had most of these "rights" you mention. Like inheritence tax etc... we still have health benefits and we dont get kicked out of the ER when our spouse is in the hospital... but now we have the ultimate equality

lots of love from your neighbours to the north

  • Thanks for posting this.

I've been reflecting on my nearly two year relationship with my partner. Even though he and I haven't been together nearly as long as you two (congrats, by the way!), we are definitely in it for the long haul, and we are pretty thrilled about it.

It really is unbelievable that gays have to fight so hard for certain things when our commitments are clearly strong.

    Again, thanks.

  • Im from Canada where it is legal and you never realize how lucky we are to have equal marriage rights... Im sad to hear that you guys had so much trouble with it though... good for you to donate the money!!! You have great views on this.. we dont need a church to get married... outside or at city hall is just fine...I personally would never want to get married in a church anyway... You rock!!!

  • Is Britney that bad? (I would have men suck my dick to.)

  • That was a beautiful story. I hope you can get married again..

I'll send you guys flowers again, all the way from Argentina!

  • I have to say, ten years ago This subject wouldn't have drawn my eyes. But as I become older and wiser and have more respect for everyone trying to do what they feel is deserving of them... hell to stand for they're RIGHT's.. Thank you for sharing your experience, It just strengthens my understandings.

  • I of course have a totally different point of view, but I'll save you the political rant. ;-) I do strongly agree that you and your partner should have the same rights and responsibilities as me and my partner.

    Great story!

  • I am so happy to have come across this video. Amazing.

  • Mike, This is a great story, and the recent court ruling excites me for gay and lesbian community. Thank you for sharing your story. I wish my state was as open minded as CA. Unfortuantely the residents of texas voted to make a state constitutional amendment that marriage is only between a man and woman. I will be glad when all men and women are equal to marry, who they want, no matter their sexual orientation. My prayers and support are with you guys.

  • Calling someone on your wedding day to ask if they wanna come is so funny. Talk about shotgun. :)

  • touching. my position is that i just do not care. the only people who do, are people who consider same sex marriage to the same equivalent as psycho religious leaders of witch hunts in old times. now in this day and time, we know witches do not exist.

  • This is a beautiful story, and I cannot express how much I wish the best for you, your partner, and all couples in the same situation. How this can happen in a world where "equal rights" is supposed to be something we share for all, I do not know. I think its dispicable that they can grant you a marriage, and then revoke it on a whim. Life is to be lived, loved and experienced, and to you Sir, I wish the very best of it.

  • Fantastics Points all!

I love the back story about your wedding. Fight on brother!

  • I love the hypocricy here...

People complain about the intrusion of BIG GOVERNMENT in their lives - calling it facism and worse.

But when it tickles THEIR fancy, they start sounding like it is manna from heaven!

    Hilarious.

  • boycott goods and travel from california

  • come on gayness is really just like PUSSY ON A STICK...does that make it more palatable?

  • beautiful story and thanks for sharing, Mike.

  • Musof this is a fantastic story, made me tear up in a couple of places. Best Wishes from Houston Texas. Gah. What a wonderful story. (((((hugs)))))

  • That was so moving about the flowers. And that sucks about the tax laws, I didn't know that. I hope the laws change soon!

  • I am glad the same sex marriage in Canada has encouraged some of the U.S courts to legalize same sex marriages

  • Very cool story Mike.

On July 20, 2005, Canada became the fourth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide with the approval of the Civil Marriage Act. :)

  • You said something about opening minds in your closing here. Well the more I think about it, the more it does seem like this should be different. The house scenario is what made that clearer to me. Thanks

  • Damn, that is truly pathetic. My sympathies to both of you. Awesome recount on your part though.

Keep fighting the good fight monsieur!

  • Mike...Living in a country where same sex marriage is allowed as I do...I do not understand how they can do that to gay couples. I mean..seperation of state and religion...should allow you to get married Religion should not dictate annything if you are not part of that religion. I hope it will get sorted out again...Love ya Eef

  • Hey bro,

I didn't know that the marriages were revoked. I saw Brian's vid first and responded to it. I am sorry that you have had to deal with ignorance and hate. I know that people have used the Bible to attack you and for that I am deeply saddened. As a Born-Again Christian know that I am praying for them and for you. I have a lot of love and respect for you (you know that) and wish you nothing but God's best.

    Omar.

  • You are such a great story teller. The part about the flowers is so amazing, made me smile. It will be nice if you can have all the legal advantages of marriage one day. Do you each have power of attorney including health care for each other? If not I highly recommend it.

  • Good luck to you!

  • more power 2 ya, i support any group thats discriminated aganst

  • Good luck to you. I really mean it.

  • And I really appreciate your wishes. Thank you very much.

  • Congrats, not only on being able to get married, but also on producing the loudest video I have ever watched!! You owe me a pair of headphones....nevermind, what I need is an eardrum transplant!! :)

  • Yeah, wish somebody had taught me how to use the volume controls BEFORE I shot this video... :)

  • *claps hands excitedly* Oh I am so happy for you & Rich! Congrats!!!

  • Thanks Logan - it sure is an exciting time to live in. And thanks so much for subscribing! - Mike

  • Yer more then welcome Mike

  • It makes me SO sad to know that you can not have the security and happiness that I have enjoyed for over 20 years.

Here in Switzerland, gay marriage was allowed a couple of years ago. And many other countries over here have allowed it even longer.

Hopefully, the US will also modernise soon!

    HUGS!

  • I'm confident that we'll get there, Marianne. Fundamentalist religions have slowed down progress in places such as the US and the Middle East, but time is on our side. The huge numbers of people who are religious and also support gay marriage give me great hope. Thank you so much for your empathy, and thank you for subscribing! - Mike

  • I loved your story. Thanks for telling it. What a great memory to share with your husband. -roc

  • Thanks roc! It's a day we'll never forget.

  • Thanks a lot, Todd. You're definitely one of the people who have demonstrated to me the value of fearlessly sharing one's passionate beliefs.

  • A nice story Mike!

Government does some evil things. Glad CA's government got a little less evil!

  • Thanks Bradley! Fingers crossed that it doesn't get undone.

  • "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of god? do not be decieved. Neither fornicators(sex between two unmarried people), idolaters, adulters, homosexuals, sodomites, thieves, covetous, drunkards, revilers, and extortionist will inherit the kingdom of god."-corinthians 6:9,10.

can it really be any more clear?

  • Yes. Haven't you learned about the many interpretations of Greek translations for the word homosexual??? Next chapter maybe. In the mean time you can google it.

  • ahhhhh but which one fits the context?

  • Actually, the interpretation of the word Arsenokoites which fits the context is Prostitution. There are several other contexts in which the word Arsenokoites is used in the bible and they all refer to economic exploitation. There is no absolutely clear interpretation of the word. However, if you are looking at context, your argument that it means Homosexual does not hold water. In fact, there WAS no noun in Greek for Homosexual so any modern interpretation to that effect is inaccurate.

  • I'm so lucky to have smart friends.

  • I'm so lucky to have you.

  • I followed OhCurt's link here. You did a great job of sharing your story. Well done. Just out of curiosity though, isn't there are type of corp that you and your partner can form, and title the house as such, which would give you the same, as married partners? I'm in real estate and I see houses titled many different ways, but I've never investigated the pros and cons to each type of corporation or trust. I've always wondered if there was a way to help gay people avoid the penalty you mentioned.

  • Thanks Lisa! Hmm...you know, I've never heard of such a thing so I have no idea whether it's possible or not. If it is possible, someone could be making a lot of money advising gay and lesbian couples how to do this...

  • It might be worth it to consult a real estate attorney or an estate planner about the different types of corporations or trusts, and the pros and cons of each. =)

  • --but enough about you.

  • LOL!

  • Does all your hatred rhyme? Or was this just a special ditty you just thought of?

  • No. 1, this isn't a theocracy. No. 2, gay people are Americans too, No. 3, The Constitution, which usurps the Bible since this isn't a theocracy, says "all men are created equal. No. 4, Conclusion: Gays being Amercians are equal to straights. Straights can marry; hence, gays can marry too.

  • fish, sorry but marriage did not start out that way, you need to brush up on your history, Atheist , the Menatally retarted, Felons's Convicted Pediophiles etc can get married.

  • In YOUR religion, that is the case. In a country where there is freedom of religion and freedom FROM religion, that is not so!

  • Not really, it's not even in his religion...

But you're right a nation should be religion free in public, school, government, and laws.

That is to say, they're allowed to still practice it of course. But not allowed to bring it out (besides religious events, of course. Like church and festivals or whatnot) and force it upon others, change laws, or affect lives with their beliefs. This can also be said about anti-religion.

This device has been used to control those that are ignorant.

  • Actually, no.

Marriage has been around -long- before Christianity for one, in fact back as far as recorded documents...like before pagan days.

Oh yea, Pagans...they came up with all that information about the sun and ages that the bible personified into Jesus for a really good story; Jesus is a anthropomorphic version of the sun.

Man created marriage. Just like we've done everything without the lords help in the past 10,000 years. If he does exist, he hasn't done anything good.

  • Before pagan days it was yahweh and man. And there no way the bible has anything to do with the sun, since in multiple places it condemns worship of the sun, stars and moon (deut 17 for example).

God create marriage, not man, man perverted marriage though. so thanks....not...

  • God isn't a physical being, he didn't create anything. Man did.

And yes, Jesus is the sun. You're confusing two things here, the old and the new testament. The new one is about the sun, the old one is just a old story.

Marriage was between same sex in pagan days. And they were here on this earth long before Christians, it's about time people woke up to modern times. Religion is what we used before science when we couldn't explain something That we worshiped a all mighty god to protect us.

  • god is creator of all things.

jesus is the SON of the most high God.

The old testement has nothing to do with that big bright yellow ball in the sky. The NT is christs finish work on the cross.

marriage is between a man and a women, no exceptions.

Paganism was a successful deception (O foolish unbelievers)

Religion is man made, but god is maker and sustainer of all. and man cannot use science to concor him, he's got the reins on us ;)

  • So...the devil did it, correct?

Anything that proves against Christianity, even if it's dated long before Christianity existed. Was placed there to sway us off that path. Correct?

So, by what you're saying...how can you be sure it's Christianity that's the correct one and not the other thousand religions? Just because you say it is? because somebody told you? Or because yo heard a voice inside your head (or outside) telling you?

  • The holy spirit is the one that tells you indeed. the other Gods can kiss my grits, im trusting in christ and nothing else, nothing in my hands i bring simply to the cross i cling!

and yes the devil fell by his own will, adam sinned by his own will, but there was a greater plan behind it all ;)

  • "marriage is between a man and a women, no exceptions."

Could you show me where it says that in the bible?

Actually traditional marriage was between a man and several girls. Not women, girls.

Hmmm... We should maybe take a deeper look at the Bible.

  • Then the LORD God made a women from the rib he had taken out of a man, and he brought her to the man.

The MAN said, "this is now bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called WOMEN for she was taken out of man."

For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his WIFE and they shall become one flesh.

    Genesis 22-24

pretty clear to most people except those that like to pervert the scriptures.

  • Fair enough,

so tell that to David, who was according to the Bible "a man after God's own heart." David, along with so many many other men in the bible did not have just one wife, no, they had very many women.

    sooo...

    hmmm... let's deconstruct that one...

Cool it with the pervert talk too...

That is very disrespectful and it doesn't become a fishboi like you.

  • Thank you for this personal story. It is something I can pass on in discussions. We need, as you say, to put human faces/stories to these issues to help people 'get it'.

  • Absolutely - and I'm honored that you find my story something worth passing on to others. Thank you.

  • Thanks for sharing your wonderfully touching story. What a great video - hearing your personal experience from a historical time. I am optimistic about your future! 5 stars! :-)

  • Thanks ons - I'm pretty optimistic too.

  • closet case!!

  • Excellent vid muso.

  • Thanks clonesy!

  • Keep at it:]

    :)

  • I sure will - thanks!

  • ok first off, great video!!! I hope the best for you and your husband. keep fighting the good fight so that someday gay people of the future can have a better life. this is LONG overdue, so rock on hun! as for fishboi, honestly, shut the fuck up! if you dont like gay marriages, dont get one. did anyone ask you for a religious perspective motherfucker? no, so shut the fuck up and go to hell!

  • The United States is NOT a theocracy. The Bible is not the Constitution. "Civil" marriage is a right that all Americans should possess. "Religious" marriage is separate and apart. Gays are NOT pursuing "religious" marriage. Get your facts straight, no pun intended.

  • that is why this nation is lawless.

  • jesus hanged out with 12 half naked and a hooker in dark places and nobody says anything about that!!

  • If you ever have time to put your Bible down, explain to us why people would be born gay if God forbids it. And, if you say "people aren't born gay" then we can all know you've never actually talked to a gay person before in your life. Which would make your ignorance understandable, but not forgivable.

  • heres you answer: "Then the LORD smelled the soothing aroma then said in his heart 'I will never again curse the ground for mans sake, although the thoughts of mans heart is evil from his YOUTH'."...(genesis 8:21)

  • And here is your answer - "the people who quote the Bible to defend their hatred, know not the words contained therein." - Mother Theresa

  • fishboi, I would love to be there when you die and Jesus tells you what an asshole you are for using the bible as an excuse to hate people. Good luck with that.

  • "Let the fishboi who is without sin, cast the first stone."

  • "How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye?' huh fishboi? huh? huh?

  • hypocracy i know, glad i know im not a homosexual, otherwise i would be condemned.

  • Ignorance is bliss, hey?

  • and what would be the ignorance? Gays dont live good lives, they live corrupt pervese lives, the reason god unleashed fire and brimstone on sodom and gomorah. and dont tell me they do because there alot going on "behind the scenes" that you cant see. Homosexuals are very hostile people if you dont agree with there vie., im sure alot of people here want me dead or badly suffering. Because i follow god in truth?

  • I learned it was God with a capital G. Maybe I know a different one.

The ignorance is in that you are unable to see beyond the words of your bible and the interpretation you have chosen to adopt as your own. By your own admission you have said "He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemn the just, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD," and you have just condemned this man.

  • You taking stance against something which does not affect you and hiding behind the words of an ancient book to defend your cause- it saddens me. You should be crying out for fair treatment of ALL people regardless of sexual orientation, race, color, or creed. I suppose you condemn those of other faiths as well; faiths and entire cultures which have had to defend themselves in bloody battles lasting hundreds of years in the name of "God"?

  • funny how this ancient book still hold firm to the world today, nothing has changed, man is sticked wickedly corrupted as he was thousands of years ago. I guess we had no right to tell hilter and stalin that what they were doing was wrong right? afterall it was part of there "culture" and we have no right to "judge". you cant do something in the name of god if its contradictory to what the bible teaches.

  • "You can't do something in the name of God if its contradictory to what the Bible teaches." Exactly. I'm glad you're starting to see the light.

As for inherently wicked, this is not what I was taught. Original sin yes, but then there was that one incident captured by that catchy little verse, John 3:16 as I recall...so while you hold firm to your thoughts of wicked, I'll hold firm to "forgiven". According to the Bible everything God does is perfect, and if in fact he created all life cont...

  • cont... then we are far from wicked. Doing God's work does not mean one must go around pointing fingers at those things we disapprove of or don't understand screaming "repent". Take up a charity, do something for your community, go over to Myanmar and help a family. All you're doing is complaining, you will not convert anyone here to your faith with this nonsense. Why don't you go out and show the world what a fine Christian you are by getting your hands dirty?

  • doing good works does not make you a christian. Your best good works are nothing but filthy rags before god, faith results in good works, not faith in good works unless you have soemthing to boast about, so heaven is not soemthing you buy your way into. conversion comes from god, not persuading people into faith, then they arent really in the faith and sooner of later will depart.

  • EXACTLY! So take your strong faith and get off your 21 year old computer addicted BUTT and go help somebody who needs it. See the world you're trying to save one YouTube channel at a time. Do something worthwhile.

  • was it taught from the bible? probably not.

jesus died for his elect, not the world. Otherwise, jesus would have died in vain and god would not be a god of justice.

that agruement cant hold up, the greek word for "world", has eight different meanings, and ill tell you right now its not the one that means the "entire" world.

  • I assure you it was taught to me from the Bible.

Your comments make little sense, and are frankly just odd. Are you going through your Bible study workbook or something? Very random...

At any rate I wish you all the best. Good luck getting the rest of YouTube on your side; you've done a stellar job here.

  • dont have a bible study book, you just have to know greek, because that is the laguage of the new testiment.

  • Um, no...you just have to look in your notes and see where you scribbled down the "eight meanings of the word 'World' in case it would be on the quiz.

  • heres a video to illustrate what he's been saying.

    watch?v=sO3c6_Zjiu0&feature=related

  • Thank you, I watched a bit and understand that there are indeed thousands of interpretations of the Bible. Scholars world wide have studied it as long as it has existted. The fact that the original books themselves were stories passed orally leads one to believe that many misinterpreted words were recorded.

The point remains that this video by my dear friend, is about gay couples having the right to marry, and there is no quote from the bible or Greek translation that will change my mind.

  • Oddly enough, Hitler espoused much of what you've been stating. He made up the same lies as you have ("most gays are vile people") and then backed up his hate with a quote from the Bible.

You don't have a funny little mustache, do you?

  • hilter rejected true biblical christianity and advocated a "Positive Christianity", a belief system purged from what he objected to in traditional Christianity, and which reinvented Jesus as a fighter against the Jews.

  • I think using compassion tells us that corralling millions of people and executing them is wrong and wisdom tells us that we must take action.

  • Am i condemning if i warn you all of what is to come if you dont repent of your sins? i see you like twisting his words in your own favor.

  • If they dont repent and believe in the lord jesus christ they are already condemned, so i dont really have to saying anything.

  • Jesus preached love, healed people, empowered peopled--you are condemning people. He embraced the sinners. What are you doing except preaching the old testament of judgment and wrath?

  • I believe in Christ. But I c
