  • (1) Solitary Confinment / We've Got the Neutron Bomb is def one of the greatest rock 45s of all time, any genre

    (2) the Weirdos were washed up by the end of 1978 (actually five minutes after they changed bass players) which made "new" bands like Black Flag and 50 others necessary truth! hahahahaha omg there was a hysterical funny

interview in FLIPSIDE recorded by "Al, X-8, and Gerald, Dec 8th 1978 in hollywood" and let's just say there's a lot of yelling and grumbling and more yelling haha

  • Perfect stranger or no, I will always love u for posting this.

  • Shit...I'm 60 yrs old,, I just whipped out my air guitar. I was there, the 2 best bands were X & the Weirdos!!!

  • my favorite song by the weirdos.

  • best f'in punk band

  • ayyy q bonitos ah

    videaso, q bravos!!

  • i love when cliff throws out his pick, only to get spit on!..classic.

    buck...fuck you too.

  • I'm Sooo Glad I was lucky enough to have been born at the right time, to see bands like this in the late 70's, early 80's. So much good LA music going on then.

Too many to say just here, but I must mention The Screamers, DEVO, (I know, devo from ohio), (but they played LA a LOT.

Just want to say that the LA scene of late'70's and early 80's was incomparable.

    Great Stuff, great stuff. ! ! ! !

  • @ThatMiserableCat I agree. There was always a great show to see. My brother and I would grab a newspaper and see who was playing and go on the spur of the moment. I saw these guys several times. Saw Devo , the Ramones, the Germs, DK's, Dickies, too many to remember. Fun times.

  • Maximum Weirdos!

  • This is some great fucking music.

  • The Weirdos ruled LA.

    Crime ruled SF.

They even did some shows together.

  • good quality, great fucking band!

  • I saw them in Seattle in 79 a few times

  • I saw them later on,in '91,too.They opened for the Circle Jerks. The mosh pit during "Solitary Confinement" was the craziest I've ever seen.Made pits at the Ramones and Black Flag seem like afternoon tea.

  • right on...THEE BEST out of L.A... arguably the best anywhere!

  • Prime Weirdos.

  • Agreed, the best LA band ever.......

Would love to chat with Nicky Beat someday, his drumming in the song "Teenage" is just freaking sick, impossibly great.

  • whats better this or flipper, man i think, i drool, my fuckin head explodes

  • Amazing clip, and good quality. One of the best LA bands, along with The Gears and The Blasters. Bruce (bass)looks totally hot back then.I think he's still sober and in OC, but broken up with Dawn.I used to play with his brother Marc in the reformed Skulls, after Marc returned from his Wall of Voodoo hiatus.John Denny(singer) lived across the street from me downtown,on Spring St. in an artist loft. Last I saw of Nicky Beat(drummer), he was a drum roadie for Pearl Jam.

  • i snuck a tape recorder in and got a whole set they did at club 88 in 1979,,,also i got the go-go's the dills and the plugz.....those were the fun day's.....the weirdo's came from the palisades,,as i did toooooooooooo. i wanted to get them into the decline of the western civil,,,but peeny said they weren't good enough,,,she was wrong....i also wanted the go-go's and she said they sucked.

  • Great early footage of one of the most underated American punk bands of their time. They left a fantastic legacy behind in the form of some memorable early singles.

  • John has the RADIO BIRDMAN logo on this shirt sleeve shoulder!!!

  • Great footage. Where and when was this shot? I don't think I've seen this before.

  • The best LA band ever.

  • The Weirdos are my favorite L.A. punk band.

Solitary confinement is one of the best rock&roll songs ever written (to me).

That singer just takes no fucking prisoners.

  • Of course punk is rock and rock, DUH! Jesus Christ.... Moreso than YES, Led Zep and Hendrix put together. 'THIS SOUNDS LIKE ROCK" - what a stupid thing to say.

  • Remember how there was always some nerdy guy with a video camera lurking around the Whiskey, Starwood, Baces, etc? Thank God for that nerd now! This footage is absolutely incredible. Secret nights of unmentionable fun (Kickboy). Long live the Weirdos!

  • are you the photographer who did shots for flipside? And is that Kickboy Face you are referring to? Long live the Weirdos is right

  • The Weirdos were the kings of pre hardcore LA. People always say the Germs because Darby's dead but the Weirdos could beat their asses into the dirt. (I do love the Germs I just think they are over rated due to Darby's icon status).

  • no they first hit the scene in like 1977

  • how did these guys not even get metioned ever as a very punk rock begining, yeah they do sound kinda more rockish than punk but its almost sooo much better, i mean the lyrics are so punk, but you know i like them beter knowing they are so original and so ahead of their times ,,,,,,i like better the way it is under obscure... and life of crime was almost their best song, pagan and message from the underwold blows punk out of the fucking water my friends

  • dude this was pre ramones and its way harder in every way , love this band, weirdooooooooooooooooooooos hell yeah

  • I think you mean post Ramones. The Ramones got together in "74" and released their first LP in early "76". But none the less, Weirdos kicked a**. Great example of L.A. punk at its best.

  • They were post ramones, but the weirdos played more of a art rock sound which predates the ramones.

  • I saw alot of bands in the old days of punk in LA and this band just blew me away. We all just played like we didn't care and that was the point. But holy shit these guys just came on like a ton of bricks. Once they started playing you had to keep moving because if you were standing still you'd get knocked down. THE best LA punk band ever!

  • fuck yea that my dad bitches the bass player dave trout

  • THIS VIDEO IS FUCKIN GOLD, i wouldn't even call this punk, it's more that punk happens to meet the same criteria as the weirdos, it's really loud rock'n'roll. calling it punk is almost taking away from how original this band is/was.

  • l.a.'s best band of all time, you had to see them live because except for solitary confinement and neutron bomb, their recordings dont do them justice, but live, they blew everybody away!

  • The Weirdos are indeed incredible live. There are a few other bands out there that perform just as well, but no one can match their electricity or intensity. They are simply amazing. They still pop up for a reunion show once in a while.

  • Thanks i'll have a look, I think this band is wicked. I got the compilations and Condor but thats it. Trying to get hold of Who what why when and action design but proving to be hard. The helium clip i saw looked more like a music vid but thanks anyway!

  • ARGH Listen this is doing my head in. Have you seen Don Letts Punk Attitude Film? Theres a brief bit where someone talks about the la scene. Its got some clip of The weirdos helium bar music video or sommin. Has anyone seen it? I want to see the full vid. Can anyone help out at all? Cheers

  • maybe you should try the best of flipside video-dvd,there`s a complete weirdos-performance of 85 including "helium bar".

  • I saw the shorter versions on cable a few years ago. He spent, what, 5 minutes on LA? And how many fucking minutes on England? It is my dream... and my life goal to make this RIDICULOUS fucking DVD and CD series that COMPLETELY COVERS our people. The Weirdos, Oi!, GG Allin, Fear, Bags, Clash, Gogol Bordello, Naked Raygun, OP IVY, New York Dolls, Dwarves, Grunge (NOT FUCKING GREEN DAY OR LIMP BIZKIT), The Sonics, Skafish, Big Black, Adicts...

  • Exploited, The Violators, The Blood, Modern Lovers, MC5, Throbbing Gristle, All that Punkcore stuff, the Stinky Toys, Minor Threat, Scream, TSOL, the World Inferno, SubHumAns (Canadian AND UK), Crass, DOA, MDC, DI, DRI, Leningrad, The Stalin, Chainsaw, Crying Nut, The Saints, The Damned, Dr. Feelgood (pub?), Bow Wow Wow, Catholic Discipline, Dead Kennedys, Billy Bragg, Defiance Ohio, Screamers, Stranglers, Mummies, Chaos UK, Broken Bones, Le Tigre... Hell... EVEN Mucca Pazza!

  • You get the idea.... I know... I missing a few hundred things. I saw a History of Punk box set 6 years ago. 14 discs... we can do A LOT better...

Nothing against England... most of my favorite bands are from there... but I have yet to see a FULL punk documentary. OOOH! And there could be a volume on Punk Movies! Repo Man! Suburbia! Rude Boy! This Is England! (Ok... that's more a Skinhead movie...)

  • i got the entire helium bar video on video that i can dub for you, i got no idea how to post anything on you tube... send me $10 to 1005 cooper, olathe ks 66061

  • Holy shit, this is unbelievable, I've never seen it. What year? Based on the dorkiness of the audience, I gotta say around 1980.

  • this flick is from 78

  • This is recorded in San Fran. 1978 from a Target Video. Not recorded in LA

  • geniuses in that audience. dorks still don't know.
