i had spent a long time designing a great 500$ dollar dell (temporary computer) but then i started loving mac's. I went on ebay and i've seen buy it now used mac books for around 600-700$. i would go ahead and pay the extra 100 dollars for the mac. i love my mac and hated my dell it wouldn't let me play songs or do anything after a year. and my battery last 15 to 20 minutes on my dell and im fared to charge it for long times for it to cough on fire again.

I went to Apple store today to get a macbook pro, but because they had recently release a new iphone, they were only letting a few people in the store.

They were making people stand in the hot 98F heat, even thought the store was mostly empty, and there were only about 10 people outside!

I am now looking at getting a XPS laptop. Forget Apple.

I dont know, i personally think any mac is ok to buy its just if you really NEED all the extra power some of their macs come with. iMac, and Macbook ( now 13'' macbook pro) are both good first macs though. Even mac mini isn't that bad, but i would just pay a couple more hundred dollars for the macbook.

Hello, i just got my own macbook and i just love it! its very light and its very pretty! the only thing i regret i dont have a light on my keyboard. i dont know if its a problem with myne or i just havent pressed the buttom to activate it.

Firewire is just a port similar to a USB port. It is used to connect usually high end or older cameras. So if you don't have a camera with a fire wire port and it has a USB, you will not have a problem

About the messenger, it is the main problem of many mac users, because windows have a msn version for mac, but it is far away from the windows version. It doesn't have the video chat option for example. BTW it has alternatives like Adium (my favorite).

Go for the 2.0 model... it will do just fine. If you write without looking at the keyboard, the backlit on it will be useless. By the way, if you have the money to buy the 2.4 model, save some bucks and go for the MB PRO model

2.0 vs. 2.4 - I bought the 2.4 and after calculating a few things:

upgraded to 250 GB of memory because this is something I DO need (equal to that of the 2.4)

iWork, AppleCare, MobileMe, and also bought a Mighty Mouse. Add up the same setup for the 2.0 and you only save like $100. And if you get a student discount, it's basically the same.

Well... whichever of it I'm not so sure... I'm not very convinced with the screen. I don't know if it's something with the video card but sometimes when you scroll in some browsers or move a window in msn messenger you see some kind of flicker. The image is not so stable....

Yes, it would. but.. the 2.4ghz has the 3mb L2 cache with the 256mb graphics card, while the 2.53ghz model has 6mb L2 cache with a 512mb video card!

it's true, the new macbook doesn't get hot like the previous version of the macbook pro. I own a previous version of the macbook and it gets really hot and tested the macbook at the apple store and the new macbook does not get hot, it's amazing.

It is not that big of a difference but the 2.4 ghz is noticeably faster in games and when running windows. However, the 2.53ghz processor in the Macbook Pro is much faster than the 2.4 because it has has 2x the cache from 3mbs to 6mbs so it is always preferable to get a 2.53 ghz processor in a macbook pro but for the macbook, try to get the 2.4ghz but if you can the 2.0ghz is fairly fast.
