I rode several GP of the 500world championship when I was 18 yo (before I get serious back injuries). And I can tell you we used the full bike potential!!!
I don't say the full power, which is way too important to be used always at 100 %, but we used the full potential of the steelie CR 500. To be very fast on a 500 GP you had to modify the rolling chassis because standard components were not good enough for a High Class rider.

To be fast with a 500 you have to be smooth on the throttle, and not trying to use the extremely mighty engine at 100 % because it's so powerful, it makes you lose controle of the bike.
A 500 hepls you to be a better rider because you have to choose the right line, the right attitude and makes you riding smooth.
I ride a 500 because i'm deep in love with it and a 4 stroke won't ever give me that adrenaline shoot and this fantastic engine sound.
I'm the guy with the CR 500 AF on the video. A 2 stroke 500 cc smokes a 4 stroke by pure power, but it's not as efficient as a 450 4 stroke.
But CR 500 AF is a rare bike for exclusiv riders who want to ride differently.
I don't care if a CR 500 smokes a 450 4 stroke or not! All I know is that I'm loving riding that bike and it's pure adrenaline! A 450 4 stroke won't ever give me ;o)
I'm certainly faster with a 4 stroke but it's not exciting to ride with...
Hey I have a CR 500 but it's the steel frame, tons of power and adrenaline all the same but the AF seems to have so much more control. I'm jealous of the track and the skill, cheers to ya'

The production stopped in 2001, but my bike is a 500 engine in a 2006 CRf 450 Chassis.

You'll always find your limits before the bike's limit with taht kind of monster...
Such an incredible engine in such an amazing chassis, you can't reach it's full potential everywhere.
Of course on some parts of the track, the bike could be better, but I could be too...
You're not wrong, it makes me laugh when a guy spent a lot of money in suspensions or so on and is not even able to turn up the throttle :o)))
We won't tame the 500 2 stroke. We just have to be respectual with it ;o)
