John may not have been born here in Colorado, but he lived here for many years (in Aspen) and brought a lot of fame and recognition to the state. Many of his songs were great anthems to this state and he adopted it as his own. You don't have to be born here to be considered a local. But I agree that the Bar D Wranglers do a great job (even though all of them are not native Coloradans either. A couple of them are Texans and at least one is from Arkansas. Thanks for the kudos on the slide show.
@RestorationAdvocate I was born there but the people in charge have decided to close the gate so that I can't return. screw the yuppis who have decided to keep me out.
John Denver is not local. Born in New Mexico and lived all over the USA. This song is a great Tribute song to Colorado by the Bar D Wranglers and great slide show of Colorado.
Merle may have had the first hit with the song, but the BarD wranglers are local talent, as was John Denver and John's Anthem to the Colorado Rocky Mountains is a classic. Long Live the memory and the songs of John Denver.
This version is NOT a great representation of the song Colorado OR the Bar-D-Wranglers. They usually do MUCH better. This one has lots of bad notes and flat spots.
Greg Ryder is the only one I've heard do it as close to perfect as can be. He and Jerry Baxter do it justice.
Matt Audette, in Blaine, WA, and Connie Holtzheimer do it fantastic too!
