Its weaker then the obviously flawed Rocky 5, but Rocky 5 suffered in that it attempted to retake the atmosphere of the first Rocky film, without having the direction to do so. I mean the movie was a train wreck, but its an enjoyable stalemate. The worst part of Rocky 4 is the Russian crowd rooting for Rocky. No way is that believable.

@8matthewlee8 The movie made more sense then Rocky 5, which is saying something, but when you look at the basics of the movie, there is no attempt at any point in time, to tell a story. Its just Robot, Creed Dying, Montage, Montage, Rocky Fights Drago, crowd cheers for Rocky. Rocky 5 has the basis of a good story, it was just executed horribly. It shouldn't have ended with the street fight. For instance Tommy Gunn is flawed, not evil. Drago was evil. He was to evil. Right vs Wrong is not good.

my main complaint was when i saw the movie was that rocky didn't win in this one. than i saw the alternate ending when rocky won the fight. then i started to really think about if they did put the original ending in the film then maybe it would not have been as good as it turned out. in a way you feel like you did at the end of the first film. which is what i think Stallone was trying to do.

i know im a major minority on this one, but this was my favorite rocky movie. the first one is a classic but the "nothing to something" story has been overused i believe. this movie was awesome because not only were the people in the movie disapproved of rocky fighting again, but the reviews and fans were too. and a comeback story like this was really well done (comebacks are over done too but not as much as "nothing to something") it's just an awesome movie.

I think this possibly the true successor to Rocky 3 rather than the immediate successors. I watched it recently, having been dismissive, and found it was interesting. Its true that if you can get over the age thing it is ok..it is a big ask. I kept thinking when I watched the fight 'He'd be gone by now...he's in his sixties he wouldn't still be standing'. But Stallones physical prescence did suspend my disbelief at times. If those punches were real...thats bloody impressive!

Hey James, you should really review the movie A League Of Their Own. It's one of the greatest sports movies of all time. It's about baseball as well WWII and the effects that had on the country. Its about women's rights but mostly it's about the characters. All the characters are brilliant and you grow so attached to them. Just give it a look would you?

you forgot to mention that mike tyson also made a brief cameo appearance in the beginning of the fight.. he argued wtih the champ.. that made it a lot more realistic as well..this isn't my favorite rocky movie but its definately in my top 5 though, silvester stallone did an excellent job... only thing i didnt like was the high hopes song.. what the hell were they thinking?? definately should of used eye of the tiger for nostalgic purposes.. also didn't like the marie romance thing.

If the deleted scene from Rocky V (where Lil' Marie is homeless) was added Rocky Balboa would never would have worked. Because when Rocky is like "Is that you, Lil' Marie that hung out at the atomic hogiee shop?" Marie tries to show off to the street corner gane and says "Yeah." So Rocky is happy about seeing her and leaves. And Marie' says "Hey Rocky, screw you." And everybody laughs and Rocky looks down is disbelivef. Paulie tries to comfort him but it doesn't work. Now you see what I mean.

In the beginning of Rocky Balboa; when you see the picture of Adrian, and Rocky starts of his day and visits the grave to her. Everytime I see this scene it breaks my heart, I love all of the Rocky movies (even V), but there is something about Rocky Balboa that just warms and breaks my heart at the same time. This movie is as emotionally satisfying as it is heart-warming. Only this movie and Titanic makes me cry because of emotional impact. 10/10

This movie actually got praise by the boxing community for having a more realistic fight. In real life, most boxing matches would get stopped if they got as violent as they did in the previous movies, and when they haven't, careers of the boxers tended to end shortly afterwords.

I didn't see this one in the theatre. Purely because I misread a synopsis, I read about the simulated fight, but thought I read it as the actual Rocky fighting taking place in a video game or something. I thought "that's just fucking stupid". So I didn't go see it. I rented it afterward, and shit, it's probably the best since the first.
