Panda's tiny size when they are first born is one of the reasons why they were close to extinction.

@crewchamp13 right. blame the pandas themselves. humans destroying their environment had nothing to do with it. jeese.

pandas have not been endangered throughout the existence of the species!! yet they always had tiny quasi-foetal babies, like marsupials. so that's not the cause, nor a cause.

@wattever333 I know it's mostly our fault, which is why I said one reason. Marsupials have pouches to protect small baby. Its harder for giant panda, and usually only one cub can survive so its hard to replenish their population. They are very strange tho. They are carnivores (digestive tract) but eat almost only bamboo,that makes it hard to get energy (lack of absorption), so they sit around for 16 hours a day eating. Wild pandas need to adapt to new food so they can survive changing habitat.

There is a type of parrot (forgot name) in new zealand that has razor sharp talons and beak but ate roots they dig up, now food supply shrinking so they use talons + beak to attack sheep and eat their back fat
