Actually the sniper rifle taked .308 rounds in Fallout 3. 7.62x51 rounds are used by the Assault Rifle and Chinese Assault Rifle, as well as the Infiltrator from The Pitt.

Ah right you are. Even I was confused. .308 is used for Fallout 3 Snipers, and 7.62's for Mercenarie's Snipers. 5.56 is standard for assault rifles. Thanks for clearing that up.
