WOAH! That lasted a long time! Can you please make a video of the jam jar on it's side because I need to do that to power something for science class.
I have no idea if the jam jar style of pulse jets will work on their side. The thrust these things make is very minimal, at less then 2 grams. If you plan to run one on its side (assuming its even possible) don't expect it to move at all. To show that its making thrust set it on an digital scale that's capable of measuring very small amounts of weight. Set it on the scale, zero the scale and fire it up. You should see it making a little bit of thrust.
Man this was fun. Drunk at about 4am on December 31, 2007. It must have took 30 tries to get one to work like this. Notice the beer cases in the background.
To the other comment, To my knowledge Kerosene and Diesel have very similar characteristics. To the point of being interchangeable in a fuel application. Kerosene is just cleaner and therefor more expensive as far as I know.
For the record the glass did no shatter. It did however crack so badly around the bottom that it basically crumbled when picked up. That is when it had cooled enough to pick up.

They are the same thing. Kerosene just isn't road taxed.

I dont think diesel would work, as its not very volatile. Kerosine however is very volatile.
