i heard good things about this one and i just got and and have NO IDEA what the hell i'm doing. it is still really early in the game, but my character is too weak to do anything. any advice please??
@machinmaman87 If you're dying a lot early game, it's okay; starting off at level 1 is damn hard in Fallout. If you're new to the game, I suggest plenty of Agility, Luck, and the "Small guns" skill. Don't forget to aim for the groin!
But seriously; if you right-click on your weapon, you get the opportunity to aim for the enemy's various bits for an additional Action Point. Doesn't seem worth it initially, BUT IT IS. Trust me.
As for me; repair, doctor, energy weapons. Pew pew. unarmed 'til then.

Bethesda provides you with nuclear dragon-killing shouts in Skyrim, but in Black Isle's Fallout 2, you gotta know "when to hold 'em, when to fold 'em, and when to walk away".
Or, you know, just run the hell out of town and hide for a few days.

@machinmaman87 If you choose energy weapons. If you go small guns, you've got pipe rifles from the get-go. Energy weapons ignore armor more easily, so I just stick it out with some brass knuckles, my wits, and my companions.
Think of the save/load function as the Prince of Persia's Sands of Time. You can even save mid-game!
Just be as ruthless, cowardly, and resourceful as you need to be to do whatever needs doing. Stacked odds are fun to challenge.
@ArcherMcGoggles They were sending a message "we can massacre you guys so you better do what we say" they needed "pure humans" to test a virus which would only kill people with radiation, ironically the "mutants" they took were descendants of people who left this same vault. You then invade the enclaves home, as in not a military base, there actual home, and kill all there families and most of the military.
i got addicted to fallout 3 when i was 10 now im forteen i still spend hours on it and now im playing 1 and 2 to find the origins of this wonderfull game.
@ziggyzap1 !SPOILER! The Vaults was opening by their dwellers. Probably only overseer was deciding when open the vault. V.13 was cerated to be opened 200 years after it was closed. It's why Ov. Jacoren banished Vault Dweller. He didn't want to people go out because of their new hero, he didn't want to rewolt get started. Enclave also decided to open V13 in good time. Of course people was leaving vaults themselves too (V15), at good, but at bad time too. For more - Fallout Bible.
@Zowi121 Uhhh, actually the enclave sent a "government" code to the vault that said it was safe to come outside the vault. That's why they were standing out there with a mini gun, they shot some resident's and captured the rest that didn't resist.
@Brandt761 bethesda didnt make the Fallout franchise, Interplay did. Beth bought the franchise after Interplay went bancrupt, New Vegas was made by some of the people that made the first 2 games, thats why there are so many references to the older games like the NCR, Enclave, etc.
@vinchisters but the (or a) Enclave appears in Vanilla Fallout 3, too. Cash flow seems to be a real problem in the Gaming industry, where companies that make some of the best games go bankrupt. They need better Controllers, or maybe a revolutionary kind of funding.

Yeah, Fallout 2 is defo the best game in the series. Too bad it was so buggy but the restoration mod fixes all problems plus it unlocks the unfinished content. F3 was a big disappointment. I'm currently playing NV which I initially thought to suck ass but after getting into it I quite enjoy - it does have that fallout feel to it and the story and the characters are light years ahead of F3. Only thing I miss from Fallout 3 are the DC ruins which I admit were pretty sweet :)))
I love this so much. I like to thin of it as an homage to those duck-and-cover films of the 1950s- a pleasant, naive, happy-go-lucky way of dealing a very unpleasant subject, devoid of any really useful advice or commentary on the horrors of nuclear warfare, and the line between oblivion and paradise. Fallout 1 / Fallout 2 were great; I still haven't played NV but I hear it's more in tune with the originals. I loved getting the car in Fallout 2 (The Highwayman, I think), but my one regret was never actually being able to fly around in a vertibird in-game...... Another great thing about the originals (but two especially) were the Easter-Eggs, like the bridge, the knights looking for the holy hand grenade, and the crashed Federation shuttle w/ hyposprays. I have now used up all characters. Yes!
Guys, i have to say one thing... If someone could make a film based on Fallout 1/2... Holy shit, it can be so incredibly AWESOME! We just need a good director, who really knows what this game about. @OPL21stJS basically in fallout 2 the enclave killed half the vault and used the rest to experiment on then deathclaws took over the vault, in fallout 3 they wanted to take the water for themselves and make it so that water would kill any kind of mutated life thats the basic jist of it
I haven't played Fallout 1 or 2 and I have only read bits on it so I may not be a professional. Rumor was that Fallout New Vegas was supposed to be more of the type of game for traditional fallout fans. Personally I think Fallout 3 did a great job of capturing the premise of a 50s-esque sci-fi universe where New Vegas didn't as much. Fallout 3 left unanswered questions and was pretty black and white moral wise, but they had a good atmosphere. Eager to one day play Fallout 2.

Don't worry I was born in the early 90s, I grew up playing games like Warcraft 2 and Donkey Kong Country for the Super Nintendo. The only thing that makes me hesitant about Fallout 1 and 2 is turn based combat, but one of these days I will get Fallout 2, but mostly because I liked the Enclave from FO3.

@glpace Those aren't "marines" nor our soldiers, those are Enclave troops. The Enclave is an army of high tech soldiers that seem to have alot in common with Germany during the Third Reich.....
@CorRomeister Not really, the Enclave are the remnants of what used to be the United States government. They resorted to try and slaughter everything in the wasteland, in hope of being able to build a new, better USA. They also created the Forced Evolution Virus, creating the Super Mutants and Deathclaws.
@TheJakeSweede Brotherhood of Steel- Remnants of the US military, their main objective is to gather all weapons technology and protect us from ourselves. They sometimes help people but rarely(Only in Fallout 3 they help people)
Enclave- Remnants of US government. They want to eradicate all mutants(which is everyone who wasn't born in a Vault). And repopulate america with their pure humans. Think of them as Nazi's

@TheJakeSweede Ok just be careful though fallout 1 and 2 are pretty unforgiving games. and fallout 1 has a really bad time limit in which you have to finish the main quest.
@TheJakeSweede They are pretty fun but they arent for everybody I got sick of dieing to early in Fallout 2 and just gave up. If you don't know what you are doing then it's not gonna be fun they dont hold your hand like other games do you are gonna get stuck sometimes. But if your patient it should work out =D

Fallout 2 would always crash- like everything else- during the opening movie. It's a good RPG, but it is objectively a barley finished piece of crap. Except if you have the restoration mod, then it's actually playable.
@NinjaBeatle It's supposed to be a Vault-Tec instructional video. They won't go "Hey, it's okay to leave the Vault. Really, it is"; they want you to stay there until their experiments are finished.
I have the original record with this song on it, and it seems that Fallout is returning to its roots with New Vegas; memorable npcs, encounters, voice acting, all the good stuff Fallout 3 sort of left out. Fallout 3 almost seems like a completely different medium as well considering it barely makes references to the old games, and the gameplay is absolutely different, but seeing what they've done with New Vegas (All glitchiness and bugs aside) I think it's all worked out for the better.

@LostKitsuneRonin I agree overall I prefer fallout 3, but yes in new vegas they made loads of references to their predecessors, enclave armor, brotherhood of steel, burned man ect. Fallout 3 though will still be a life changing game to me.
@LostKitsuneRonin I hope you know that Fallout 3 was in D.C, so there couldn't be any "Memorable" NPCs, because they are on the OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY.

@MrNightlyProductions its a good game ....but i missed those weird and awkward moment in fallot 1 & 2..... ive played fallout 3 and NV....NV has its fallout feel....but it was very limited.....man....nowadays game spends too much time on graphics...... hey man i suggest u go buy a copy of FALLOUT 2 ....just ignore the graphics man..... once u are out of ARROYO village, then u will definitely experience the one of the greatest game ever.....

Don't worry I was born in the early 90s, I grew up playing games like Warcraft 2 and Donkey Kong Country for the Super Nintendo. The only thing that makes me hesitant about Fallout 1 and 2 is turn based combat, but one of these days I will get Fallout 2, but mostly because I liked the Enclave from FO3.

I remember this one time with Cassidy in my party. Some thug we were battling against had a critical failure, dropped his gun and crippled his arm . Cassidy had a floating text, saying "Too bad YOU can't reload the game and try again." It made my day. Have any of you seen it?

@glpace Those aren't "marines" nor our soldiers, those are Enclave troops. The Enclave is an army of high tech soldiers that seem to have alot in common with Germany during the Third Reich.....

They resorted to try and slaughter everything in the wasteland, in hope of being able to build a new, better USA. They also created the Forced Evolution Virus, creating the Super Mutants and Deathclaws.

@TheJakeSweede Brotherhood of Steel- Remnants of the US military, their main objective is to gather all weapons technology and protect us from ourselves. They sometimes help people but rarely(Only in Fallout 3 they help people)
Enclave- Remnants of US government. They want to eradicate all mutants(which is everyone who wasn't born in a Vault). And repopulate america with their pure humans. Think of them as Nazi's

@TheJakeSweede They are pretty fun but they arent for everybody I got sick of dieing to early in Fallout 2 and just gave up. If you don't know what you are doing then it's not gonna be fun they dont hold your hand like other games do you are gonna get stuck sometimes. But if your patient it should work out =D

Fallout 2 would always crash- like everything else- during the opening movie. It's a good RPG, but it is objectively a barley finished piece of crap. Except if you have the restoration mod, then it's actually playable.

I have the original record with this song on it, and it seems that Fallout is returning to its roots with New Vegas; memorable npcs, encounters, voice acting, all the good stuff Fallout 3 sort of left out. Fallout 3 almost seems like a completely different medium as well considering it barely makes references to the old games, and the gameplay is absolutely different, but seeing what they've done with New Vegas (All glitchiness and bugs aside) I think it's all worked out for the better.
