I recently purchased this knife and was just wondering what method you use to sharpen your BK7? Do you use a file since its 1095 Carbon steel? Thanks. -Robert
Great video. Good to see dad and kids enjoying the outdoors. Good review of the BK-7. Would you agree with the opinion It handles the "Big Knife" jobs really, really well, and it handles the "Little Knife" jobs good also, albeit a bit of a compromise?
It looks like a nice place to spend the afternoon. Testing is also fun times. I was impressed with your BK-7. I only processed a few logs with it but it was certainly up to the task. It seems to be holding up very well. A local shop has one for $99. That seems a bit high although I haven't really priced them out online.
I love my 9 for chopping and splitting tasks... But it doesn't do detail well. The 13 does my detail work, though I imagine the mora does much better. Easier to hold, larger blade. I havn't actually used one or done with the scandi grind so :-P It's a 9 and 13 for me. Though Becker is coming out with a camp knife here before too long.
Ah cookin' hotdogs over a fire with the kids. Doesn't get any better than that. I really like that 7" knife size. I know we've discussed this before, but I'm diggin the size. I do like a 4" fixed blade I have too. Ah, so many cool knives and only so much weight I can take on a backpacking trip.
@Cr0cket20 I think a 7+" fixed and a 3-4" fixed paired up could pretty much cover all the wilderness tasks you'd encounter. Could almost leave the folder in the car...
@TheLateBoyScout Been thinking about that a lot lately. I always bring a folder with me. But with that fixed smaller blade in place of, it would offer a lot of added strength if needed.
Again, like the woodworking techniques. Btw when you batton use a bigger battoning stick, thicker around not longer, it will spit those logs in half the time... Great review though
@verisharp Thanks for the tip, and you're probably right - however, in a survival situation, if I were losing daylight and had to get my fire going, I would not hunt all over the forest for the perfect baton. I would grab the first stick that looked like it would do the job and get to work. Some calories can be saved by striking with a heavier baton, but balance that against lost calories from lifting it and hunting around to find it, and what's the real benefit?
Super market wood? Booo.. you can do better than that man..cmon

@1BattleRattle That's a good way to put it, and yes, I would agree - especially with the included BK-13. Thanks for watching.

@SnowLobo95 That is high considering you can get them for under $65 on Amazon.

BK7 or BK2 for an "Everything Wilderness Blade?"
RedGladius 8 months ago
@RedGladius I don't have any experience with the BK2, but based on Equip2Endure's rec of it, I'd say that's the one you want if you had to pick.
TheLateBoyScout 8 months ago
@RedGladius I'd go with the BK-2 too, it's thicker and will handle batoning and general abuse a lot better.
