  • I remember one of the interview video's that will wright said that we own the creations in spore!

  • I thought that the spaceship from the beginning was a sombrero...

  • its more of entertainment than a toy, because it is a video game!

  • exactly beanerbut2 you got it right on the money!!!!!

  • Oh, now i c why people hate Spore: this is nothing like the actual game. Also, Will Wright's philosophy for this game also goes far beyond the dynamics of the real thing.

  • I want spore

  • they made the grox the enemy.

  • new spore you dont even have to click on the egg.

  • I'm a video game collecter.

  • will wright is the best. I loved his version of spore better.

  • Spore is a great toy, an amazing tool, but unfortunately a terrible, terrible game.. (Except for cell stage)

Also why the hell did space stage have cooler tools back then, why the hell would they take them out :(.

  • To all you numbnuts who hate Spore because 'it isn't what this is'...

    Look at this.

Nearly everything is the same except for aesthetic differences.

Do you really allow simple aesthetics to affect you that much?

Or are you just that ignorant?

  • Will Wright's presentations never cease to amaze

  • Cool guy and a good speech.

  • hes my fav game creator... i want him to be my dad

  • That makes total sence, it just hit me that its no wonder they didnt make any ordinary guardian, but a cyborg race guarding the heart of the spore galaxy...

  • @0YtsanBlowout0 well the reason for that is the plot in the story in the game is why.

  • Keep in mind that this is NOT the released version of spore, this is just a late ALPHA version {IE, this one was not finished yet} so there are a bit of tools that didn't quite make it into the full game...

  • i never new you could sculpt rivers on your own

p.s will someone tell me how to get to the galactic core

pp.s is there anyway of destroying the groox

  • @rosicky7rocks to get to the core, just blast your way through as quick as you can. And you can destroy the Grox, it just takes forever.

  • Why didnt we get this game D:

  • @LamaPaj Because he's Will Wright.

  • i know, right... This game looked so awesome, and then they turned it into a game for toddlers -.-

  • He used cheat codes at 9:11!

  • I prefer this version of the game.

  • No his best game is The Sims!

  • WILL WRIGHT IS AWESOME!

  • he has a diffrent verstion of spore

  • why is he wearing that arm-thing?

  • he has a broken arm

  • his best game ever is Raid On Bungling Bay!!!

  • nice sleeveless polo shirt, I'm gonna wear it to the office, church and even on my wedding day

  • OMG this is excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I have 3 questions though:

do you get penalized if the animal you build is 'not viable' let's say you give him 10 mouths and no legs, is he going to die? how do you get penalized for bad animal design?

and also, are the parameters about CO2 global warming accurate? (it could favour alarmist scenarios)

and finally with what energy do you get to other stars?

in other words, how realistic is the game?

  • It's not very realistic. This demo is from awhile ago, the final version is out now.

You don't get penalized for bad animal design, it doesn't matter how any of your creations look. For animals, however, the parts you give them will impact their abilities, but that's about it.

  • Will Wright was in The Simpsons Game!

  • This man is a Wizard

  • Why did they get rid of the ability to get out of the ship?

  • I know right. -.-

  • Well, apparently there putting it back in. Expansion coming in Spring. Can't wait for it.

  • sauce plz

  • the official website. I originally heard it on a different website, though.

  • What the hell is he wearing?

  • this game is amazing, because it is so simple. just amazing. it shits all over sims or wow or whatever crap.

this game just redefined a genre.

  • why are you checking out will wright?

  • Only check out Will Wright if you plan to compliment.

  • OMG this game looks fun i want it!!!

  • wtf... advert at the end...??

  • Unfortunately, the first thing that the kids did upon being given this wonderful tool was to fill the Spore universe with Penis Monsters.

I'm think that says something about human nature, but I'm not sure what ....

  • it says that when given the chance to create, we will create penis monsters

  • lol!

  • shh, dont wake the net pervs

  • I want to see a flying ass.

  • I'll send you a plane ticket.

  • ooooh that was awesome

  • I found out that Will Wright did the sims but he did not do most of the sims 2. He is not even designing the sims 3 at all.

  • That's cause hes going into early retirement :P hes so rich now he prob could:P

  • Loving the Creature Editor! Will Wright is the best game designer ever. He cares about the fans!

  • A few years before Spore was anounced I had discovered this fairly old game called E.V.O. and I dreamt about how I would be the one in on the making of the next-best-thing.

Curse you Will! Now the best I could get would be some minor role in its numerous sequels.

  • There was a Sims 2 ;)

  • Cant WAIT!

  • This game will basically be the Second Coming.

  • Genius !

Will Wright, Sid Meier, and Peter Molyneux are three of my heroes. Thanks for posting this!

  • Will Wright surely is a genius!

  • Very true, Brilliant.

  • GIVE IT TO MEEEE!

  • SPORE! Can't wait, looks so cool! Seems like the kind of fun that can be enjoyed by literally all ages. :-D

  • I WANT THAT GAME!!!

  • whaya

  • will wright is an amazing man GO SIMS!!

  • ok Whats the name of that video game?

  • Spore.

    Look at the user comment.

  • Spore.

  • We've come a long way from dying of cholera along the Oregon Trail, eh folks? This is educational and fun. I want it.

  • These fantastic games have an added benefit, they advance computer technology itself. The games require faster processors, more memory etc. The 'need' drives the 'supply'. It makes economic sense, as a mass market drives down production costs. Everyone benefits. Bravo!

  • the system requirements are incredibly modest, which makes even more of a masterpiece.

  • Great comment 'harshvgaus', that is the halmark of good software. I don't want to return to the 1970's, but in those days, every little 'bit' counted. Computers were predominately for accountants and mathematicians. I am sure that "Games" have done more to advance hardware, than any other factor other than national defence procurement.

  • Will is one of my heroes.

  • AAAAAAH O.o I NEED THIS GAME

I'm gonna get addicted to this game like HEROIN..... rofl ^_^

    Spring 08??? D: nooooes :'( aw shit

  • September 5th '08

  • so i hear.... but who believes they won't push it back?

    lol

  • i dont mean to be an asshole, but its september 7th :P

  • I need this game. I NEED this game.

  • what a guy! he's awesome!

  • If there's any totalspore people reading this: I'M SORRY I LEFT!!! Some stuff came up and I got caught int the middle of it. I do intend to return one day, but at the moment I'm too ashamed...

Now, about the video, am I the only person who REALLY wants to steal WW's 40 dollar man costume and wear it for halloween?

  • Will, you must take our sims into this realm... please?! I would Love to see my sims in a game similiar to this, travelling to new worlds and interbreeding with these creatures!! The custom tools alone would be too awesome! My brother is going to LOVE this game. Thanx Will!!

  • haha, you know what? that sounds awesome!

  • The HUD and a couple other things look alot like the sims. Like when his mouse scrolled over the edible animal it lit up. Kinda weird

  • Scientific knowledge is estimated to double every five years. New knowledge will expose current error! I anticipate that the kids who play with these toys now, may reach an 'adult' understanding that most of our present science is a mere primitive pseudo-science. They might laugh at some of Will Wright's notions? The 'CO2' conjecture may have been debunked by then. The Earth's coldest Ice Age had levels 10 times higer than today. A debate hotting up faster than the climate!

  • I've known that global warming can cause Ice ages since a kid... It's common sense.

Ice age are worse then global warming by far and also related.

  • OMG!!! this is so cool. can i be one of your playtesters??!?!??! i would love to play this game.

  • This game will allow me to become death, THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS!

  • Amazing technological innovation... continues to expand the possibilities of online social and educational platforms...

  • And the means and expanse to which we get overly involved in things that are, primarily, entertainment

  • I known about this game for months and still waiting for it..This game is tight!!

  • known about it for a few years... aha I beat you!!

  • games like this do not help creativity, rather they let those without any believe they have

  • i love how pumping CO2 into the atmosphere caused the entire planet to literally burn up. silly stuff and exaggerated to the nth degree.

  • Your realize that's not real time right?

  • The greenhouse gases in Venus' atmosphere have turned it into a giant oven where no life is possible. It's possible.

  • Wow! what a fun game! I hope they market it soon!

  • this game is going to be so fun to play. So cool This video got a little bit more info on Spore.

  • My Favorite quote: "... so far the entire game has been played on the surface of this little world here."

  • and that's just the start of the game. Most people think the goal is to get to space phase then startover again. But rather the space phase IS the game and everything from then on is freeform sandbox creativity for hundreds of hours.

  • i think something like this could be used for real life problems like global warming

  • Games like this will help people understand and accept evolution and planet/star system formation.

  • Once you conceede that God did not build the world in six days, that all creations attributed to him are not perfect, they you have to ditch this unwholesome 'Intelligent Design', Creationsim crap. Either the Bible explains everything COMPLETELY, or doesn't at all. Factually, it doesn't at all.

  • a very good argument against "some parts of the holy book symbolic--some literal" whether it is all true (by the virtue of being a holy book)or not true at all (that it doesn't explain any scientific phenomenon)

  • God, in the bible, drowns the world. He parts the Red Sea and drowns a whole army. He blinds people. He turns innocents into salt because they merely 'looked back' with natural human concern. God does nothing symbollically. He's all action and frequently lacks mercy. He calls certain animals He has supposedly created 'unclean'. He condones the idea of torture for eternity (Hell). The bible says He is benevolent and all-merciful - which bit is literal and which symbolic? ; )

  • Yeah! why did he create those animals that he calls unclean in the first place?

  • Because He didn't create them. They were forest-rooting scavengers, pigs are still used today to find truffles. Men called them unclean after they had domesticated them. If God had created them he would not have called them 'unclean'. So whoever said God did call them unclean (the bible) is lying.

  • Two thumbs up. This is a massive potential zeitgeist shifter. Education education education. Even playing the sims you get a more subtle understanding of how others and you personally operate, this is the same thing. This doesn't support Unintelligent Design it supports all that is natural. I hate [almost] everyone. I would buy this guy a ridiculously expensive present if I wasn't so desperately poor. jamezmon

  • Getting kids to think "long term" is great, yet hopefully that would be balanced with knowing fantasy from reality. It's as important to learn practical things as well - self discipline, focus, people and management skills, etc. Games should have the option for parents to limit game time. I'm sure the maker of violent games don't care about kid's healthy mental development, just making money. Greedy corps only care about money not culture.

  • Sploogersmoof...noone else mentioned god but you.

Noone mentioned anything to do with your message.

Anyway, I agree with gemini171. When you examine the way Mr. Wright uses the creature creation, it seems to enforce ID beliefs.

However, it's just a game and I don't personally feel anybody is going to take any truth to it.

I disagree with Mr. Wright's idea that anybody will really learn from this game.

  • That's because you're stupid, and have no imagination or vision.

  • Wow, suck on W.W.'s wang a little more.

Seriously, anyone who is old enough to play this game longer than 2 hours will be too old to get any "philosophical" truth/questions out of it.

Just try to "imagine" or use your stellar "vision" to picture your average kid who picks up this game. If you had any imagination or vision, you would see that they will pass this off as just another toy.

  • That's the attitude that made you what you are today.

  • Well, think about it this way. We haven't seen any failure in the game yet, only success. If a person fails, they may say, "Oh, okay, I need to get rid of these teeth because they're too dull. I need sharp teeth to fight and to devour other animals!" Plus, anyone who can't really grasp the idea behind evolution probably wouldn't believe it, even if presented in another manner. If a person believes in intelligent design, chances are they'll never accept anything else.

  • This game is going to be fun and addictive for sure, but we have a long way to go before we develop a game that perfectly balances education with entertainment.

  • An accurate depiction of evolution wouldn't be fun at all, in fact it wouldn't even be a game. It would be a computer simulation where you would be able to watch an unguided process taking place, so that kids could really see how complex molecular machines like the ATP mechanism could evolve through random mutation.

  • This is the major problem with using games for educational purposes:In order to create "empathy" you give the player extensive control over the design of the creature. But that will just reinforce implicit beliefs in intelligent design, not challenge them. This would be a bad tool for teaching evolutionary principles.

  • evolution has nothing to do with god. it dosint prove or disprove anything. im sick of people saying it does.

  • too bad we still have to wait till spring '08 -_- though I suppose if they feel it needs the extra time then it's a good thing. I just hope they're actually working on the game instead of letting it sit.

  • that was a brilliant concept and presentation...I think he is really on to something. You have to teach kids without them realizing they are being taught.

  • Simply amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i want that game

  • "Children have real understanding only of that which they invent themselves, and each time that we try to teach them something too quickly, we keep them from reinventing it themselves."

  • Hey that's what I still do...
