They were very good, they had the longest ranged 15" guns and this despite a limited elevation compared to their peers, their navy was vey good in regard to materiel, but suffered from poor leadership, At the battle of Cape Matapan (Guido Island) when the British fleet went to the aid of the shattered Pola at they found the Italians survivors in a mass delirium and drunk to a man devoid of any leadership whatsoever.

However I just looked this up and both ships had almost the exact muzzle velocity. Bismarck 820/sec Littorio 850m/sec. Shell weight almost the same, Littorio a little heavier by about 100lbs. Max range and this can be exagerated but Littorio was 26mi while Bismarck was 22miles. Too bad the Italian Navy command sucked.

Its also apparent that the Italians suffered from ammo consistency problems if you read Nathan Okun's evaluations, The guns built by OTO and Ansalado also suffered from bore wear more than any other navies large caliber guns, These issues are reflected in the Littorio's excellent shooting against units of the Royal navys mediterreanan fleet and the much less efffective shooting of Vittorio Veneto at Matapan (Guido) no doubt caused by inconsistent projectile quality.
