to nmstew: is Turbo-Jet a Carburator or the engine? Maybe I am thinking of the "Rochester quadra-jet".....so what kind of gas milage he getting around town....about 10mpg......highway about 17mpg?
1) Not clear, I'm not even sure he's still in school. He may be a drop-out or a high school hanger-on like Wooderson.
2) Not all the jocks and hot girls have the same feelings towards the geeks or other groups. Pink is actually friends with the geeks, as he is with the jocks and the stoners. Don, a jock, is friend with the jocks and the stoners, and at least decent to the geeks. Benny and O'Bannon clearly dislike the stoners and likely don't care much for the geeks.
He is talking about his prowess as a pool player. Like when he mentions "double pumper" he's talkin' 'bout playing the 4 ball in the side pocket. It's all billards lingo. I suggest you smoke a joint and not really worry about it.
I could understand why a dude named big sears would try to be a class c smart ass, so if you DO know what he's talking about let me know, cause now I do. So, what's he talking about????
"Melba Toast" is THE best name for a car ever, period. This scene really brings back some memories. I'm pretty sure Matthew McConaughey was born for this role.
Melba toast is made by lightly toasting bread in the normal way. Once the outsides of the bread are slightly firm, it is removed from the toaster and then each slice is cut in half "longitudinally" with a bread knife to make two slices each half the thickness. These two thin slices are then toasted again to make Melba Toast.
I think he's refering to the SS stripes on the hood
Ive also heard Melba Toast is used for soaking up soup, Wooderson could call his Chevelle Melba Toast because it soaks up the competition? I don't know just some opinions.
you folks are apparently not car nuts. What Clint is driving is a 1974 Trans Am Super Duty 455. Less than 1000 were built, so it's a pretty rare car. Of course it didn't have the hp the Wooderson's SS did, but it did put out a respectable 300hp, and a monsterous 400+ ftlb of torque for the day. Not bad for the gas war days.
I met Nicky Katt a premier earlier this year. He's a really cool guy, he talked about the Criterion DVD and the 10 year reunion they had. I wanted to go up and quote his tirade to Adam Goldberg but if the people around hadn't seen the movie it would have looked weird LOL.
Every single word you just said is exactly how i feel. Haha and my dad does the same thing, he is always talking about all the fights he got in and all great times he had when he was in high school in the 70's. God damn i wished i lived in the 70's.
The "pop up" is a generic term usually refering to higher compression pistons. "turbo jet 390 horse" I dunno what the turbo jet refers to but 390 horsepower. Woodersons chevelle is a 1970 LS5. with a 454 cubic inch big block chevy. Clint refers to his Super Duty 455 cubic inch big block firebird as white lightning. And he's giving Wooderson Sh!t
"4.11 posi trac out back" is the cars rear-end setup 4.11 ratio gears and posi traction is where a car will spin both rear wheels and not just one. "750 double pumper" is a Holley carburator rated at 750 cfm with mechanical secondaries. "Edelbrock intake" is a the intake manifold that the carburator sits on. "bored over .030" means the bore of the engine has been enlarged by .030 of an inch(which is common when rebuilding an engine). "11:1 pop up pistons" is a pretty high compression piston.
comment me if you want to make a time machine get all the actors that were in that then go back to 76' and fuckin PARTY comment me for realllll if you heart this film!!!

Great movie. My only complaint was I wanted to see a little more car and a little less weed. Other than that they got the '70s right.
