I also recorded a VHS of this opera (Live from Lincoln Center) which was performed at NYC Opera which I also attended that season. Would also like a DVD if it can be located. It was a great performance. Sadly, Steven Dickson passed on in his early 40s
I recorded this performance years ago on a vhs tape and would love finding a DVD copy if it exists. I absolutely lobe this performance of the Magic Flute
wow, I love opera from now on!!! Stephen Dickson is great, love him too! If anybody hears about a whole recording of this opera with him please let us all know.
Sorry of my english, I can german better... the beginning is boring, I don´t like Papageno´s acting (he is singing good). But when Papagena comes, than is the duett great :-)
@persianopera1 Why are you here? You should be listening to GOD'S MUSIC -- precious, dry, mathematical compositions by Bach that we don't appreciate or deserve, instead of raunchy Mozart stuff.
Wow, great version! Really enjoyed, well sung and good acted. I am just wondering how Mozart came to it, I mean, what he felt when he finally discovered what should be Papageno & Papagena reencounter in the language of music, i. e. the language of the Universe (Superstring theory)! Lovely!
The final meeting of Papageno and Papagena is the best moment of the opera and one of the most beautiful moments in the history of art, not only because of the music itself but also because of the joy it brings to the audience. It's an ubnforgetable experience to watch this masterpiece on stage, among other stunned spectators. It's magic. Thanks, Mozart, for your 35 years in our planet.
Does anyone know how to get access to this video. My mother is trying to get Mr. Dickson in the Oklahoma Music Hall of fame. All documentation/videos/audios will help.
One of the best Papagenos on Youtube...I loved the way he did the flute bit! Except...did he "heil Hitler" at 3:44? Haha, and I also love the staging of the duet.
wow we had better boys then in our chours lol and taller...caus ei know the director of it now was it then if my friend in it has been there since 1996 and he has been there much longer than her....well nice to see this cause we havent done it in forever and ive seen the met one on the tv so wanted see the changes
Parlez ! Oui ou non ? Personne ne m'entend. Alors, vous voulez me voir pendre ? Papageno, mets un terme à ta pitoyable vie. Je leur laisse encore une chance. Je compte jusqu'à trois. Un. Deux. Deux et demie. Trois. Bien, voilà. Puisque personne ne veut me retenir... ...adieu, monde cruel !
Papageno, faites demi-tour !
J'adore.

What I find sad that Mr. Dickson died in 1991 at the age of 40.
Much too young....

Why do people have to laugh when it's about suicide? Papageno is a manodepressive figure...
nishmat 3 years ago 4
Actually, he isn't that serious about committing suicide. It's just an idle threat.

yeah, but he sings some bullshit there ^^ "weil das leben gute nacht, gute nacht du falsche welt" - just for one example.
but well. he didn't notice - and the audience obviously didn't either ;-)

Narbleh 4 years ago
Papagena ! Femme de mon coeur !
Papagena !

Sonnez, grelots magiques ! Je dois voir ma chérie encore !
Sonnez, grelots magiques, sonnez ! Ramenez-moi ma chérie ! Ramenez-moi-la, ramenez-moi ma chérie !
