  • I'm thinking "Lord of the Rings". Please enlighten us.

No offense intended, but I find this song a bit boring... you do a good job though!

In my opinion it needs more variety and interest. I'm sure the same can be said about my performances so far though. I'm still gonna give it 5 stars.

  • Looking at the title reminded me of 'Golden Slumbers' from the Beatles :) I used to have it for a lullaby.

  • where do you live?

if you do shows, i would kill to see you live! That song was original and beautiful!

you desever every compliment you get, and you should get more!

keep writing your original stuff ~ i like it better than your covers. you put more soul into it.

  • it's a beautiful song

    i love it =D

    good job ;-)

  • thank you stev021=)

  • Nice job.

  • I have a half an octave range. Pretty good, I know.

  • Nice job!!

  • You'll go far, man!

  • I could see this song being very popular. Good work JC.

  • Lacks so much polish.

Your voice really needs training and if you're going to record this, I recommend playing the guitar first, then singing.

  • I agree with those who think you should lower your voice an octave or so.You have some very nice tones down there, when you strain to go a bit higher. it's lost. Lyrics & melody are very good. You have some real talent, keep em coming!

  • I love all your songs. The only critizism (omg i suck at spelling) I have is that your pronounciation makes it hard to hear the song. It really takes away from how beautiful the lyrics are. If you could practice your pronounciation while singing, you'd be amazing IMO.

  • After listening to this a second time, I recommend lowering the key a whole step, a whole step and 1/2, or 2 whole steps. Your high notes sound strained and possibly screamed out a tad bit. Pick a lower key that still sounds full but your voice needs to sound sweet for this song, and straining out your high notes won't help. Sorry for being so critical. Don't take it personally, my teachers were much worse with me :P.

  • Whichever key is more comfortable for you to sing in but you NEED to lower it either way.

  • I'm going to put this on an internet radio station to be rated and we'll see what people really think. If you're good or not.

  • If you know America like I do, about half of em are tone deaf. JC Van Luyn has pitchy spots but he'll get better. You just need to have patience.

  • Why was I rated down then? I'm giving him a bloody chance to be heard on a station with a consistent listener base. What's wrong with my proposition? He sent out a blanket message including me and I've decided: "What the hell, he wants some attention, I'll give him his money's worth."

  • Probably because the people who listen to that station are the other half who aren't tone deaf. Buddy, chill. I understand he's not great now. But if you kill his or anyone's hopes before they are able to reach their climax they'll never get the chance they wanted. So just chill.

  • Hello again, if you dont remember me ill try and relog your mind. We had a discussion about Bob Dylan and you was a very calm and kind person, there fore i will suscribe :).

    Very nice voice too.

  • Very nice.

  • Sense of direction :) beautiful path and a most beautiful voice...thank you

  • Sounds like it needs tuning.

  • I agree, but still a nice voice. Not even prodigies start off completely pitch-perfect.

  • yeah!!!

    thats good man..=)

  • His Voice Is Pretty cool =)

He has his own Style! =)

  • Ohhhhh...that's what you call it.

  • If I may do my best Simon Cowell impersonation: you are TONE DEAF! you can't sing! You have NO talent! You need to give up music!!

Personally, I think you're in love with the IDEA of being a singer-songwriter. Leave the singing to singers and maybe you can still write song lyrics.

  • who sings better then?

    and jonas brothers dont count...

  • Well, off the top of my head, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Andrea Bocelli -- hell, even many of those Boy Band singers from years ago.

Having a passion for music is fine. However, having that passion and proclaiming to be a singer -- with no talent to back it up -- is simply ridiculous.

Yes, I know. The truth truly does hurt sometimes.

  • Well, weather he has "talent" or not, he wrote the music and lyircs unlike any of those people you list. He loves to play any song he knows by heart and just films himself doing it, and many other than you love what he does.

If you can sing and write songs better, then go on and upload it and i might change my mind.

  • First, the word is "whether" -- not "weather".

Second, you asked me who SINGS better -- SINGS -- not who writes better music or lyrics. You need to learn to keep your arguments straight.

The burden is not on me to prove to you that I'm talented. As a fan of this particular guy, the burden is on YOU to prove he's any good.

I say, you haven't meant this burden.

    You loose your case. :P

  • Oh great, now I've got an english teacher on my hands

Listen faggot, I don't care if I hit the wrong key and spell anything wrong or don't keep things straight. All I'm trying to say is MUSIC DOESN"T REQUIRE TALENT Say if some random singer had someone come up to him/her and say "you should give up music!" Would that person stop doing what they love to do? No.They sing music because they love what they love

I'll rest my case now since you are being a bitch trying to plan dull comebacks on me

  • That's MISS FAGGOT to you! >:P

    Hmmm...music doesn't require talent. Wow!

    You're certainly the mental giant!

    NOT!

  • I think he just needs to practice some more and get a way to better listen to himself singing. If anything you're the one that's tone-deaf and you probably think you can sing better, which you most likely can't.

  • Actually, I have a four octave range.

I can cover everything from a rich bass to a nice, full countertenor.

  • i'm sure you do. That doesn't mean you can sing better, or rather, more in-tune than him.

  • Hmmm. I see you lack common sense.

If someone me they had a four octave range -- a professional range, mind you -- and they could reach into the bass was well as counter tenor register, I would almost guess this person had some vocal training.

To wit: let's just say, vocally, this kid has nothing on me. :D

  • Fine lol, you sing better. Still, saying you have vocal training means not that much. I mean, I'm sure you've seen American Idol at some since you love doing Simon Cowell impersonations. There are many auditions that go on with people saying they've been extensively trained and they sound like sh*t.

  • Now you're changing the topic, dear heart.

Give it up. You're not going to win this one. :P

  • you guys created quite a discussion here=) with your talent, you should start uploading and sharing your gift with the world....and btw...I'm not a singer..far from it.

  • Thanks!

I enjoy creating these kinds of discussions. =)

  • jc , everybody need time to perform , take time is a good think , you do not have to worry because your are gifted , once you take off some emotion your voice will change and there you will be a mystery , always keep faith , in a couple of years you can be the next ed ved , keep working , good luck to you because you really deserve , i listen many song from you and always make me feel good , be a mystery ,

  • Dear heart? Really? lol

Fine. But I still think you should give the kid some time to grow before you condemn his young voice.

  • If by "young voice" you mean inexperienced and untrained, it's going to take more than TIME to get his voice growing. It's going to take lessons!

And, even this is no guarantee of success for him. But he can dream, can't he?

  • this artist is doing a lot more then dreaming! look at his success here on YT. It is far more then his voice...look at his lyrics ,listen to his music, there is passion & meaning. plus who can resist that cute Kaiser. ;-)

  • Kaiser is the best :P

  • You're counting YouTube as a sign of "success"?!

    SCARY!

  • Agreed. Let's hope he takes lessons. MANY musicians/singers remain unnoticed even with training. It's all a matter of where, how, and how well he presents himself.

  • Awesome.

  • vvv - A tad bit harsh =)

Well my main purpose of commenting is to say that i love your song lol =D.

And the guitars the rite loudness lol coz we dont want it to loud coz then we wont be able to here you singin =)

    =D

  • Critique is main purpose of commenting. lol.

The guitar should only be a bit louder, not so much as to cover your voice but just so each chord can be heard clearly and fully.

  • I don't like being critical but that's the main purpose of commenting. You started off the song a bit pitchy and throughout the song there were some pitchy moments, especially in your high range. Try to sing your lyrics clearer. I understand that it's your style of singing and it's a great style as you have a lovely voice but the message of your song is lost if the lyrics can't be heard. The only other thing is for the guitar to have been louder to better accompany your voice. Great song.

  • great, i love it! and i love the story of how you wrote it. inspiration comes in weird packages! love it xox

  • Keep being beautiful! That's awesome!

  • ahha some girl came to my school and she was like 15, but she an album and stuff, but she had professionals write her songs for her... your way better;p

  • This is such a beautiful song. the lyrics are so meaningful, i see them as explaing life through the loves and losses you face but when you find the one person you can truly lean one they will help to finally find your way home. A place where you are at peace and happy. I hope that is what you were going for. Another amazing song.

  • If you guys had a CD out I would buy it just to support your career. Thanks for your music.

  • Keep doing this great job.

The word needs artistis like you.
