One thing I like about TMSR is how they treat the vocals like another instrument (eg, Tom Yorke), rather than a dominating force, like most other bands of the day.
Stoked for "...And the Ever Expanding Universe" July 14!
What I love about this band, and wish more people would appreciate, is that they're doing something a bit 'different' - and doing a damn good job of it. A lot of pop music is formulaic and/or re-hashings of what other people have done before. The Republic are giving me something new, interesting, and beautiful to listen to. Cheers for the post!
oh, by far, i first heard of broken social scene a few years back, then found metric, stars, everyone on the label is amazing! even though metric isnt on a&c. still. all of them are awesome! canada takes the cake, and A&C takes the canadian cake!
I vaguely remember reading an article or hearing somewhere that the video was originally going to be based on what happened when Stravinksy, who are a big influence on the band, debuted "The Rite of Spring", when the audience rioted and then the composer made a run for it, but they couldn't quite pull it off, so this is what they ended up making instead.
@pillyreymond I agree, I don't think this sounds like The Arcade Fire, but I saw The Most Serene Republic in concert with Annuals, and Annuals sound a bit like The Arcade Fire
OMG I remember the day they were recording the orchestra that was pretty awsome. The orchesta in this vid was smaller (there is a low brass section)and i didnt know they asked students to be in the vid. Im glad I still have the sheet music they gave us.
Beautifully shot. And theme of the video seems to almost explain why this song is a good choice for a video. It starts out as accessible, then explodes into TMSR's signature sound, which may be a bit much for some tastes. This is a good introduction, but if you want to be "blown away", check out "Present of Future End" or "Solipsism Millionaires".
11 people can't handle a beautiful song that makes you examine yourself. Sad.

What, is this a Arcade Fire side-project, or just a luke-warm rip-off?

I'd say... neither.
If you think this sounds like The Arcade Fire, looks like you don't know what you're talking about.

Lemme guess, you live to collect discarded guitar picks and broken drum mallets at MSR shows.

And you live to bust bands' balls? Is that cooler?
