thank for your video, and beautiful artwork. I would like to ask you, what is name of brown paper that you cover the mold to create the shape. I see some people use newspaper but it to thin, and not strong as your.
This is great, and I wish you would repost it with the voice audio more prominent than the music audio, because it's a little hard to hear what you are saying!
Thanks. I think the video sound got corrupted, I can no longer change that; however I'm planning to upload some of the videos at VIMEO. I'll keep you posted. Thanks.
Min 1:42 those are plaster wrappings: the same material use when some one breaks a hand or a foot. and no, the paper mache paste is use with the paper or linen. it is basically a glue made out of flour.
min 2:18 the white staff is plaster of paris that i use to make a mold.
I hope this answers your question. Thanks for your interest!
Jose your work is beautiful. Have you published any books, I have searched for Dia de los Muertos craft books there are not many out there. My parents were born in Guadalajara, I did not grow up celebrating Dia de Muertos but I want to raise my boys with as much of our culture as I can and have embarked on learning the techniques myself and why we celebrate it. I think it wonderful that in this day and age people from all over can learn about each other. Muchas Gracias me encanta.
Thanks for your comments. I have not published any book, but if you look at YT you'll a lot of staff. I went to college at Guadalajara and yes i agree that our sons and daughters should learn about their culture what ever that may be. Saludos!!
Hi Audrey, I never sand my sculptures; however, if you need to sand it down, my advised is to do it after one or two layer of gesso. What kind of glue are you using?
I've been working on my first paper mache catrina, using mainly methods 'Ive seen online and trial and error.....can paper mache be sanded down after it dries, and if so, should you wait until it is painted over?
Hello, great video and impressive work! Two questions: how many layers of kraftpaper do you use on a big piece such as the skirt and torso, and do you cover the molds in one go or let the layers dry in between? Very inspiring! Thanks.
Thanks, I'm working in another vid in which I utilize a technique to make sculptures invented by the precolombian people of Michoacan, Mexico. In this technique i use corn stalks to make the sculpture. do not miss it
Hi Marguerita, I made this video at home and as far as I'm concerned there is no other video out there. I learn the technique myself by trial and error: from a picture of Pedro linares putting paper on a mold. This technique is the one used by cartoneros all over Mexico, but the Linares family elevated it to a fine art. If there is any thing else that I can help you with, just let me know. Thanks
Marguerita, by reading the previous comment, I take it that you are referring to the precolombian technique. if that is the case, i have not finish the video yet. It will take a while for me to finish it how ever i can recommend you some reading material or perhaps I can email you a PDF article written in english. Let me know. Thanks
I use the glue. in other words, I wet the paper with the flour paste and when it dries it holds very well and is very strong. it is some how like when you are doing wall paper, but flour paste works better and can last hundreds of years and is completely green

i recommend to redo your sound record here because the voice is low compared with the music
i wonder what is the material used in:
1:23 min - the gray colored thing
1:42 min - is it paper with the total green mache?
2:18 min - what is this material? what type is better?
Thank you very much man
Gracias!

There is nothing wrong with the man speaking english , you should work on a better attitude towards people that are different than you.
