  • Nice.

  • PURE Magic

  • @pqstr, one part of the art of sample is taking just only a part of a song, and looping it and make the sound louder! Any hip hop producer will tell you that, remember most of the worlds best hip hop songs come from smooth laid back jazz to become loud bass hip hop beats! Both musics are a work of art in in setting laid back to high energy moods in people!

  • I love it so much - it´s so gentle...

  • 2:03 and 3:17 Til infinity :)

  • isn't this version a few bpm higher then the original (same track)

cuz I got this same version but like 5 bpm slower

  • Pass the Mr ZIG ZAG and the wacky tobacky!!! PLEASE!!!!

  • @drumminginchicago9 Run out of zig-zags, rizla will do just fine... Wacky tobacky credits to Mr. M from the other side of the block...He is open till 22, so dont waste time...

  • Besides Souls of Mischief somebody else sampled this. Who was it?

  • @tpriest1914 alix perez & sabre - solitary native

  • @tpriest1914

Big K.R.I.T sampled it on "No wheaties"

  • @VIBEPROOF

Actually K.R.I.T rapped on the instrumental of 93 Til Infinty - Souls Of Mischief

    Its a hip hop classic.

  • @PdubzCrew

i know that but he also used the same sample to produce "No Wheaties" which is another one of his songs

  • This is playing way too fast - the tempo is all screwed.

  • @lucianisidro You need a good hearing test this could be played in various tempos. so could our voices if recorded which one is correct HMMM let me see , Whats your point?and what u smoking gimme some !!LOL

  • A Plus explained how he made "'93 til" at Rock The Bells with this song in the background. So amazing

  • @SteelPulse415 whats the video?

  • @xXBlackxRebelXx i dunno if there is a video of him explaining it. i saw it in person

  • did not know that a plus found this record in a dollar bin.

  • I read the whole of " love in the time of cholera" by gabrial garcia marquez with this soundtrack in the background. Combination just blew my mind. try it.

  • i cannot express in words how much of a masterpiece this is. this is the shit. on its own without the 93 til infinity.

  • Pure class by a great master :o) enough said!

  • Press 2

  • also sampled by surreal for godspeed

  • ill front you, if you hang wit a bunk crew.

  • 4 people got blown off course in the cross-winds........

  • Take this shit off!! This is NOT the original recording. This is to

o fast and the pitch is too high!! They have ruined a great tune!!!

  • When I first heard this a couple of years ago, I ahd already been listening to "When it Falls" by Zero 7 for a few years. Had no idea this is where those beautiful drum/bass lines comes from. I also thought the crummy sound quality was just a bad download... but I have the CD now... and it's just as bad. No turntable... too bad... this LP version sounds much better than my CD for sure. But I do think it was poor studio engineering.

  • @GABER222 Zero 7 used this in drum n bass? Check out "Solitary Native" by Alix Perez & Sabre!

  • @AeroAstro yeah but he totally gheyed it up with those whack vocals. I have it on Vinyl and the breakdown makes me want to throw up... I'm not sure if he used this as his sample or just did a remix of 93 till. DnB artists are whack like that...

  • @gojustyle Aaah, agree to disagree. The vocals make it for me!

  • No Wheaties! Big K.R.I.T.

  • Alix Perez's best sampler ever.

  • This is for fully mature stable and tempered creatures thirsty for sonic sensations through melodic scores of auditorial nurishment.

  • Wow. 4 people disliked this. One of my favourite tunes of all time. It was inspired by a visit to the atomic dome in Hiroshima and reflecting on the wastefulness of war. The sax is played by Michael Brecker who was a modern great.

  • Also DJ Magic Mike Sampled this song as well on his 1994 album called Bass Bowl. The song is called Bassin After midnite.

  • Sampled by the French rappers Kohndo (feat. Insight) in "Deux pieds sur terre / stick to ground"

And "Le rat luciano" in "A bas les illusions"

  • qualche cosa non va nella conversione, andati persi la immensa dolcezza di questo brano, peccato

  • NO WHEATIES!!

  • My take is that the sample was at 2:06 - 2:12 like josephsystempro said, BUT they made at least a coupe of copies of the sample. When they did this, they cut the "highs" on one (for the bass) & cut the lows on the other one so you could hear the xylophone (or whatever it is) on it! Then they added the flowing sax on top of it! If you listen to the instrumental, this seem to be the method that was used. Either way, it was one of the dopest samples used in hip hop history IMHO!! Great post!!

  • @Sinosure Nice analysis! The instrument is a Fender Rhodes.

Both this original as '93 'Til Infinity are certainly worth each other!

  • cold. so cold I can't stand up.

  • THRUST - DO YOU UNDERSTAND (SCRAM REMIX)

  • Kidz in the Hall used it also for "Wheelz Fall Off ('06 Til)"

  • 4:38-4:40

Is the baseline a sample of 24 carat black's "foodstamps" or is that just a coincidence

  • this song is pretty epic, but damn it gets really loud with the sax and keys at some part,.kind of annoying

  • @toohot4u4962 Like at 3:07!!! Damn that's loud : o

  • "Diluted Shadows"-Kadyelle ft. Thorts is another to add to this list.

  • Also sampled by DJ Vinroc in "Two"

  • also sampled by Zero 7.... the drumbeat.

  • Also used by Big KRIT for No Wheaties... all three great songs

  • @drkshdw7 somedayz- KRIT

  • airport music !

I try to find something good, maybe cause I don't use drogs

    sleepers wake up !

I will do not use "dislike" (easy)

  • This is how we chill, from 93 'til.

  • @AdrUnltd this is how we chill from 93 til

  • @AdrUnltd i can't see the resemblance between the two though. i don't get how this is it's sample

  • @pqstr This is why there are people who specialize in sample-restoring.

  • @pqstr You need a hearing aid son.

  • Liked this album since I bought it in the 80s .... thnx

  • 93 til infinity is sampled at 5:28 to 5:42!!! LISTEN CAREFULLY!!!!! Big KRIT No Wheaties is sampled at 5:58 to 6:26!!!!

  • @MDDLFNGZ2YA Close, but nope. It's 4:20 with some of the treble filtered out.

  • @scoutinternational your definatly right idk why all these people are sayin other times after you clearly stated where it was

  • cold

  • Early Sunday Morn Coffee a Dube and This Song = Heaven

  • i swear i heard the sample to big seans final hour in this the other day when i was listen to it but idk i guess im trippin

  • classic. but why such a bad vinyl copy man.. a easy album to track down , not even a dollar

  • this is beautiful :)

  • " I get inspired by the blunts too"

  • @lightersnatcher " I roam the strip for bones to pick when i find one "

  • relax for this night..

  • <<---free downloadable music now on my page...

    love me later!

  • Im trying to find the mp3 of this track but all of them thus far are slower than this one here. Are their 2 versions of the song?

  • Yeah I have the vinyl too. Great to see he is appreciated still.

  • Probably my overall favourite Cobham track, which is odd, seeing as it isn't exactly 'typical' of Cobham's work. Nonetheless, it is such a soothing and out of this world tune ...

  • i was just watching the new video for Curren$y's Pilot Talk 2... then i recognized the sample used in 93 till... had to google that shit.. which led me here.

  • @dopeasfuckk same.

  • Big K.R.I.T used this too in such a simple way. Dope sample makes dope beats. definitely gonna download this :D

  • I still have the vinyl of this Album superb music

  • @tracsquad loves it

  • smooooth...

  • @swatxant also Kidz in the hall - wheelz fall of

  • This is how we chill from 93 til

  • also used by big krit in no wheaties.

  • @swatxant Nice observation! I knew it sound familiar but I couldnt pinpoint where I recently heard it from.

  • i dont get it... how do these producers go diggin through these records and find a simple 5-10 second sample of a crazy 10 minute jazz song and create a dope ass jazzy hip hop beat with it???? i just dont get it

  • @snubbs741 I do I decided a long time ago that I only like certain sections of songs and have endless samples on my Ipod sometimes ill listen to them for on repeat for hours at a time. I have Serious respect for anyone who has a talent for using samples

  • @nosequiters hahaha i agree with you cept i dont put just the sample on my ipod haha

  • opps kidz in the hall used this for wheelz fall off on their first cd

  • the kidz in the hallz also used this for ill state of mind

  • This song is so amazing except for the part where one of the brecker comes and f**ks the whole vibe up with that Kenny G lame sax solo. Then it gets back to good again with the 93' til' sample.

  • very nice! thank you for the share, John. thanks, to adr01t , for posting.

  • Billiant,what an awesome track...

  • it was played on 45 dumbass play it at the correct speed i have the album @ home

  • Comment removed

  • I listen to this tune at the great antiquity, and remain very much in the impression. And, I am glad to listen to this tune now.

    Thank you.

  • goosebumps from that sax, will definately be looking at the slower version after this ;) sick upload nice one -- glad it's god plenty of eartime.

  • This jam is so funky, something to chill to after you get off work. Peace adr01t,thanks for postin this. One!

  • This is actual faster than the actual song. Probably done for the sample recognition.

The whole album is great. Gangstarr samples on this LP as well.

  • pitch too fast on turntable - should be slower - see other upload on yt

  • really great song ... it really make me relaxing

  • Beautiful song... EXCEPT... It is recorded too fast. Michael Brecker's Tenor sax solo sounds like it's being played on an Alto. There is another version of this on YouTube that is at the correct pitch.

  • Alix Perez - Solitary Native samples this. Sick tune!

  • when this album first came out,boy the pleasant pheasant was the bomb plus crosswinds(title track)!!COBHAM'S solo and just his versatility is just not to be played with because it will only embarrasses who tries to do it!!!!!!!! I wish i could upload it off the vinyl, but you know the rules,I am going to stay a youtuber!!! --This is one of his more mellow&spacey tunes w/george duke.-peace.

  • what a breathtaking beauty !

  • whats this genre of music called?????

  • Jazz fusion. There was so much great music like this that came out in the 70s. It's worth noting that this video is not at the original pitch/speed. It's been sped up to match the Souls of Mischief sample.

  • @theHipHopHead At the time it was birthed, "Jazz Rock". Today it would be called Fusion Jazz..

  • 4:20~4:31

    base

  • 8:53

  • 93 hundred views haha dope!

  • craziest shit i eva heard

  • Okay ... this is ... nice... REALLY nice...

I like this... my kind music.

    so laid back.

  • This is playing a little fast compared to the album version (Not sure why), sounds even better slightly slower. So smooth, so dope. Didn't realise SoM used it. I'll have to dig out '93 till... Haven't heard it for years. Takes me back to being 15 (in '93...). Good times.

  • Wahnsinn!

  • I've been fortunate to have some of the greatest musicians in the galaxy, and this is one of my favorite songs, period,

    ron carter jr

  • OMGGGGGGOOSHHH JAZZZY 2 DA MAXX !! i love iiiit

  • soooo sick!

  • no idead SOM sampled this

  • goddamn this is so good, sex for the ears.

  • This is Fuckn Grimy

  • Yoo can you msg me a mp3 version of this song <.<

  • Alix Perez & Sabre - Solitary Native

  • My ears and this song make love.

  • Man this is smooth. Billy is a Genius for this one.

  • You said it.

  • Rest in Peace- Michael Brecker!!!

  • The coolest thing is ALL of those cats are grounded and humble about their talent...no condescension or arrogance...I met em at Syracuse in 94...good people!

  • Wow. Hearing this song makes me appreciate 93 til' infinity even more. A-Plus is the man for using this in the beat.

The harmony throughout is obvious but can anyone pinpoint the exact sections that were used as the samples for 93 til? Sounds like maybe 2:03-2:14 was used?

  • don't think so bruv cos you can't hear that bass slide that features in 93 til. I think instead (THIS IS SO DAMN APPROPRIATE) they looped from 4:20 to 4:31. peace

  • allniceonicealright you're the man i just checked in fruityloops with the low-bassfilter and yes you're right. The sample is from 4:20 to 4:31

  • Yeah you guys are right about the main sample but i think he also sampled at least one other 4 bar section for the little bell melody that plays a few times in 93 til.

  • He loops from 0:54 to about 1:05, if you have a listen to a few remix's, like DJ Vinroc's song Two, he breakes it down a bit more, but you guys are right, he defs didnt do a straight up sample.

  • Correct :)

  • that is the exect loop for the sample !!!!

  • @stickyresin The section they used is at 2:03 buddy.

  • @gahan101 no,its 4:22 right after sax solo ends 2:03 is just the break

  • @stickyresin yes it is !

  • @stickyresin nah coz u can hear sax in the sample

  • @stickyresin I feel you man. This has gotta be some of the most beautiful music that my ears have ever heard...

  • @stickyresin id say sample is taken from right at the end, 8:57-9:03...i want this section played over and over

  • @stickyresin i hope you're workin on something evil.

  • @stickyresin starts at 4:19. Its slightly filtered so some of the treble isn't in the Souls version

  • @stickyresin yow mate actually true it is:: Souls of Mischief - 93 Til Infinity

  • @stickyresin yeah it was definitely that xylophone/bell/triangle sound

  • @stickyresin its more like a combination of 4:45 to 5:06 and 3:36 to 3:46. could be they even had someone interpolate live instruments for continuity. then they added in some more drums and high hat. they also sped the beat up in tempo for 93 til infinity.

its a smooth track to be sure. i like how big krit used it in his single "wheaties" it makes you appreciate the music of the greats when you look into who was sampled.

  • @josephsystempro actually the sample for "93 til" is from 2:06 to 2:12 and im not sure if the sax is a sample or not from the cobham joint.

  • @josephsystempro Actually the chords are the same as in 93 'til infinity as well, just pitched up by Souls of Mischief :)

  • @josephsystempro

    well said, appreciate indeed

    peace

  • agree to ecofyt. there was a better one before.this version is too fast and the sax is totally overdriven.

  • hey guys!!! dis is like sort of BLUES music ryt ? i really like music slow like this. could any of you help me if u know anything similar to this ? just give me a name of artist or a song... would really appreciate that

  • Air, Dj Krush, Cinematic Orchestra, Skalpel, Bonobo...

  • thx a lot !

  • Alix Perez, Sabre...

  • check out shirley by shirley scott

  • redclay freedie hubburt. alot of stuff on kudu record label, summer madnest kool and the gang, but for real statr collecting 70's r&b.... you will find it this is jazz kid from late 60's early 70's.... peace

  • DJ Shadow used this too.

  • I certainly hope someone will put the real original version back online. That this one but quite somewhat slower. it lasts 8:25 and doesn't start over and over again, like this one.

Just so that all of you may hear what The Souls of Mischief really copied :-)

  • Fantastic track,my fave Billy Cobham along with ARROYO from Inner Conflicts.Personaly though i preffer Lenny Whites albums to Billys,Venusian Summer is a classic.

  • thank you so much for posting this - i recognized it when i saw the ken block gymkhana 2 video

  • Excellent song and excellent musician, long live to Billy Cobham!!

  • i had to share it ! ..........enjoy!

  • @adr01t great tune, any chance of uploading storm from same album.thanks

  • Close, and well done. The original is a classic. Can anyone post the original?

  • Comment removed

  • My error. I remember the beat being a lot slower. But then, every time I heard this song w/my homeboy, we were smoking weed back in those days. Lots of it. So who knows what I remember? LOL!

Thanks 4 the post my friend.

  • Oh, okay, cool.

  • Comment removed

  • Achei muito louco conhecer a versão do Souls of Mischief antes da original, do Cobham. Mandaram muito bem, afinal, melhor que essa, fica difícil! Jazz + Rap! ótima parceria!

  • what language are you speaking?

    is any of this right?

Very crazy knowing the souls of mischief version before the original?.. in the end better than that one? hard?
