When I first heard this a couple of years ago, I ahd already been listening to "When it Falls" by Zero 7 for a few years. Had no idea this is where those beautiful drum/bass lines comes from. I also thought the crummy sound quality was just a bad download... but I have the CD now... and it's just as bad. No turntable... too bad... this LP version sounds much better than my CD for sure. But I do think it was poor studio engineering.

My take is that the sample was at 2:06 - 2:12 like josephsystempro said, BUT they made at least a coupe of copies of the sample. When they did this, they cut the "highs" on one (for the bass) & cut the lows on the other one so you could hear the xylophone (or whatever it is) on it! Then they added the flowing sax on top of it! If you listen to the instrumental, this seem to be the method that was used. Either way, it was one of the dopest samples used in hip hop history IMHO!! Great post!!
