Very rarely do I agree with Bill Maher's "New Rules" bit 100%, but this one I think hits the nail on the head. As far as our way of life is concerned, some things aren't negotiable.

It was thanks to the arabs when we retook spain and left the local governer in place that we learned the secrets of the islamic emnpire which gave way to europes exit from the dark ages.

The guy running spain on behalf of salladin was left in power after we retook spain. We gained much knowledge from him from the islamic empire ie: the characters 0 - 9 and other maths related things. Most of all we learned about freedom of speech which led us out of the dark ages.

I never said muslims invented the characters 0 - 9 i said we learned about them from muslims which we did. We also learned about freedom of speech specifcally because we allowed an islamic leader to carry on ruling in spain after we kicked out salladins armies.
It was because of this lesson europe left the dark ages. Up until then the islamic world was considerably more advanced than the christian world.

Still, christians EVOLVED faster hence better in percentage compared to muslims. It is true that a great proportion of muslims still lives in the Dark Ages. But not all.

This is what TABARI says in "History of Tabari" Vol 8:
"One day Muhammad went out looking for Zayd. Now there was a covering of hair cloth over the doorway, but the wind had lifted the covering so that the doorway was uncovered. Zaynab was in her chamber, undressed, and admiration for her entered the heart of the Prophet. After that Allah made her unattractive to Zayd.'"
After this Allah ordered their union thru Quran 33.37
