but i have never felt more pain in my heart than when my gentle wife looks at me with tears welling in her eyes and asks "why?" "why would anyone do these things?" just being american gives me no special insight into the evil that has cast it's dark shadow across continents these last 8 years. still i think a part of her expects me to be able to help her understand.

i will always be proud to be american but i'm ashamed of the things our leaders have done in the name of conquest and for an agenda that few american people support. my wife is from northern iraq and she is the most gentle soul ive ever known but i can see frustration and anger that wells up in her as she tells me of the horrors that ordinary iraqi's have endured...things we do not hear about on the news....her relatives who still live there sometimes call....
