I find it distasteful that after badgering the shop keeper for 30 minutes and lying to him that they are the Asian team, the candidates claim that they were "respectful" because they spoke "his language". First, lying is not respectful. Second, in England it is normal to assume that a person living there speaks English. It is possible to be 100% respectful when speaking to someone in a language that is not the listener's native tongue.
