  • the BBC should do a special reunion episode next year since it was axed 20 years ago. Hopefully it might be taken seriously picking up from where it left off. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • where the fuck is the BBC dvd box set??? Next year is the 20th anniversary of Eldorado. DO IT.... especially now that Polly Perkkns is a star agin in Enders xxx !!!! :)

  • Ooo look at that dramatic opener - hand hammering on a door.

  • Markoos Markoos

  • For me, this perfectly encapsulates the summer of 1992.

    ''MARKOOS'' haha :)

  • @pufferfishish Yeah, it strongly reminds me of 1992 as well!

  • I just wanked into me brothers sock yeaaaaaaaaaa

  • A soap with acting that made the cast of Crossroads (with Benny Hawkins) look like method actors who had been personally trained by Larry Olivier

  • marcusssssssssssss marcusssssssssssssssss

  • I was born in June 1992 one month before the show started.

  • @03smithacs wow what an achievement lol

  • Bad soap. Nice tune though.

  • ABSOLUTE SHITE SOAP

  • That knocking noise at the end is me letting myself down morally over a picture of Pilar.

  • i thought the acting in this was terrible

  • I live in Belgium and used to watch it, I liked it a lot. We went on holiday to Malaga at that time and we wanted to see were it was filmed, so I wrote to the BBC if it was possible to visit the set. Guess what, visiting was not possible, but I got an adress from the BBC to write to the producer and we were welcome to participate in the show as extra's. So I am in one f the episodes!

  • I know the word for crap in Spannish ELDORADO

  • @gallafey

Unfortunately you can't spell Spanish in the first place, so you know bot all, numpty! Check your punctuation as well, i'm sure you need a comma in there!

  • If BBC Scotland didn't like the name Little England, they could have just called it Little Britain

  • BBC Scotland did object to its original name "little england" because they new it would not go down well with scots viewers, and quite right to, its the UK not just england.

  • @garymonc I agree to some extent, although Scotland seem to be the only ones who always make their 'scottish version' of everything. The BBC itself for example. BRITISH broadcasting, not English bradcasting, so why did Scotland need to have their own. Dunno why England doesn't just give Scotland their independence once and for all, see how long they survive independently lol.

  • @Mr123Pauli Dick. I suppose you'd say the same thing about BBC Wales

  • @garymonc But it wasn't a programme about the UK,it was in Spain regardless of where some of the people in the show were from.

  • You're so right. The main flaw was basically an overall rush to production. Originally intended to be called 'Little England'; a story of Brits abroad; trying to establish themselves, the title was dropped because Scottish TV networks would refuse to buy into it. Naming it 'Eldorado' led to a higher number of regular foreign characters who featured in scenes played in their native languages WITHOUT subtitles- by actors with little or no experience or training. It was pretty sad when it ended.

  • @pufferfishish so strue

  • In reply to the rumours - yes we are looking to do a photoshoot at the set of eldorado in 2010 and yes our girls are looking at episodes to get some ideas.

  • If only the beeb had have stuck with it, who knows what would have happend

  • @joegreen7197 We would have had to endure this crap for much longer, so thank the lord they didn't.

  • Yes from ITV but from Manchester, not the West Midlands.

  • Happy memories, loved it

  • Best british soap ever, the public were just stuck in their ways with Corrie and bloody Eastenders, god knows how they are still going!!5 star programme of sun and fun

  • Marcus Tandy. Loved his ways and woes. your right, it was brillers, unlike Eastenders. :( :)

  • @nickghosthunter You're so, so right about Eastenders.

  • The BBC is littered with failed soaps - Albion Market, Triangle, Howards Way and Elderado.

  • Howards Way wasn't a failure at all. It enjoyed big audiences in the UK and abroad.

It was only the real life death of one of the main characters the led to it's end.

  • Howards Way didn't fail.

  • Albion Market was ITV and Howards Way was a big success - spanning from 1985 to 1990. It was never an "all year round" soap.

  • a shame given time this show would have made it

  • I must admit that I stuck with Eldorado right through and it did improve a lot from when it started but Alan Yentob had made his mind up about axing it and that was that, didnt matter to him that by the end its ratings were nearly as good as Eastenders.

  • I only watch this show because that girl in the wheelchair is hot. Even though she was disable I find her strangely attractive.

  • That's sad.

But also true in my case.

  • @voon100 she was in The Office too. In one episode David Brent leaves her stranded halfway down a flight of stairs.

  • the show had to compete with JURASSIC PARK which i think finished off the show. people were seein the film twice which meant they were going out instead of whatchin t.v

  • You're right- Jurassic Park was to blame!

ITV resorted to having dinosaurs in Emmerdale in order to compete. Remember the infamous occasion when half the Dingle family were eaten by a rampaging T-Rex? And there was also a minor storyline in Neighbours where Bouncer the dog was carried of and eaten by a Pterodactyl. And Harold Bishop was played by a Stegosaurus.

They don't make them like that any more.

  • @NotATube

I heard Harold Bishop got lost in those woods near Eldorado.

  • She had a hell of a moustache though lol!

  • It's an interesting perspective. The show certainly was rushed to air and the production problems were evident from the start. Once this was rectified Eldorado improved significantly but it didn't stop the BBC from cancelling it. It's notorious history and massive hype and pre-publicity means it is regarded as flop but it was in the Top 5 of the ratings when it ended and the BBC should have given it more time. Eastenders had took at least a year to settle down.

  • Yeah, apparently it had improved a lot but was cancelled for political reasons. The BBC wanted to be seen as more upmarket or something at the time; whether its early problems had given it a bad image or it just wasn't what the BBC wanted to be seen doing full stop, who knows?

The theme is still anodyne rubbish though (as are its bland CGI visuals); not a patch on May's EastEnders theme, which was about the only good thing about *that* dour, humourless, po-faced miseryfest.

  • The show only lasted about a year, from summer 1992-summer 1993. The only reason I used to watch it was as an excuse to avoid doing revision for my A-Levels for another half-hour. It was pretty awful (and expensive). The wife of one of my work colleagues actually worked on the show and I didn't have the heart to tell her how bad it was.

  • I think they could of done so much more with it, such a shame that the set is now rotting in Spain, they could of at least sold it off.

  • The set looks pretty good! Lots of breeze blocks and RSJs. A real ghost town with curtains blowing through open windows. The front of the church (there is no back to it) still looks authentic.

  • @jane1975 The exterior set used in the show is in Fuengerola and has been in use as a hotel since Eldorado was cancelled.

  • @pufferfishish : Oh, when they had a programme about the show many years ago after it had been cancelled, the set was in disrepair, maybe since the programme they had cleaned it up.

  • @jane1975 the set is in the same condition as it was left but is being used as a hotel now i was unfortunate enough to stay there thinking it would be a nice place to stay how wrong i was the only upside to the place is you can walk around the set

  • Good old Marcus Tandy!!

  • Nothing wrong with the show. The BBC just providing some escapism for our grey dull weather.

  • It was the largest televisual pile-o-cunt I've ever seen. This was around the time the BBC started wasting our money making utter tripe that appeals to their pathetic studenty politically correct tastes and nobody elses.

  • Kill me.

  • This show did not last long

  • Awesome. Loads of diddling and wife swapping. Just shows you how much better the weather is in Spain.

  • OH MY GOD! I remember how bad this was
