  • So what happens if you're the passenger? And you're thinking...WOW! This car is really smart, and all of a sudden it stops by the train tracks. LOL!

  • what fun is that...you can't even drive it.....technology is just boring our lives even more...omg im driving my cars for the rest of my life...so stupid...we have been driving cars for over 100 years why change it now lmaoo wtf

  • @antoniiify

Video games are more fun that a car, and some people don't like driving so show some respect.

  • They will also save a lot of money on the money they hand out to those families whose daddy died of drinking and driving

  • Re: ..no need for Driver's Licenses anymore,

Ever since the Gov created Driver's License Law... NOBODY come up with any evidence in WRITING to pass around proving "WHO'S @SS is liable if that law is a LIE"

..to prove that crap is a law at all !

  • People wont have to worry about drinking and driving

  • In the late 2011, this technology is going to open source.

    Visit: bitbucket . org/djlyon/smp-driverless-car-robot/wiki/Home

    (no Spaces)

  • umm no. i want to drive my own car if the government wants this the jokes on them because there going to loose ALOT of money on tickets... i saw a youtube video on cars talking to each other and stopping if they sense the car in front slams on the brakes your car will also i think thats a better idea.

  • bye bye woman and old drivers im gonna miss that steryotype.

  • SAY BYE BYE CAB DRIVERS, A CAB COMPANY WILL BE ABLE TO SEND A CAB OVER WITHOUT A DRIVER ................CRAZY

  • Where I live, the car is gonna need a "burnout" button or those under 25 won't buy it :)

  • Google is doing even better with their driverless cars for half the amount of equipment this GM prototype has, which means Google's solution is cheaper and well-rounded and....well....its backed by Google =)

  • They say ten so prob 40 lol hopefully ten tho

  • "intelligent cruise control"

i cant wait to see it appearing on GM vehicles

  • BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT

  • Great driverless nascar.

  • you can hear a text message in that video

  • Just replace taxi drivers right now, it would be safer...even if this thing isn't finished/ready.

  • Hi guys I found this really interesting thing on driverless car, it is titled :

The car that thinks: The thinking car or mindless junk?

I found it at MyCarMyChoice (dot) com under tech funda.... I bet it's interesting!

  • What's next? Airplanes?

  • And then Skynet became self-aware...

  • Driving a motor vehicle is more dangerous statistically speaking than going to war

It takes many more lives if this idea saves lives of children and adsults alike I'm all for it

  • my only concern is boredom and depression, odd I know, but if you look at the current trends, automation, advanced AI, humans are being made redundant at an increasing pace.

Some of the best industry experts believe robots will replace over 75% of people in the workforce, and this video is proof (along with many others) that automation is really coming of age.

My question is, if we (humans obviously) are made redundant from just about every task in the world, what will become of us?

  • Until it malfunctions and drives in to another car or something...

  • In 30 years when driverless cars are everywhere... Ima buy a 67 Mustang and rock out with my cock out. Fuck those pussies who dont know how to drive.

  • it be nice for the handicap peoples that can't drive to owned one.

  • I hope this is a joke!!! People enjoy driving and their not going to let a computer system drive for them. What is you were in a hurry or the gps is wrong... Im sorry this has to be the biggest waste of money

  • @zbwst1 I'm sorry but I can't think of a single person I know who actually ENJOYS driving. And this car is yet another advancement in technology, which will in turn make our lives easier. People who cannot drive for some reason will be greatly helped with this product.

  • @JJrocksmysocks127 People who cant drive can get a ride from someone who can drive? same thing.... I LOVE driving, and I know a lot of people who enjoy driving. Why wouldn't you enjoy driving?

But yes technology that is not going to go anywhere.. this will never work. and will never be affordable. What if something went wrong with a wire or a camera? Then what? You know how many problems you would have if something went wrong... youd be in the shop more than on the road

  • @zbwst1 you've got a very good point

  • This is never going to get passed

  • its cool to have a driverless car.but you know tragic stuff gonna happen to them.

  • BAD IDEA........

Now terrorists will NOT need to kill themselves. They will merely load a truck with bombs and program the auto-pilot to drive it to the destination.

  • The government will probably find a way to ban them. The police wont have a way to pull people over and give out thousands of speeding tickets and what not. They would have to change so many laws such as dui, open container, and whatnot. What basis will the cops have to pull you over for if this goes through?

  • @remsensor People have been trying to ban everything new for centur's, but they fail in the end and thank goodness. Nothing is more powerful than an idea that's time has come. The time for this car is now :-) The future is beautiful :-)

    The future is now :-)

  • I've seen this ( although it wasn't this specific car) on the road in between Flagstaff, Az and Phoenix, Az about 2 years ago. Wasn't sure what it was until now. It had all of the gadgets on top of it and was in a convoy of vehicles. If it was this project. It was amazing to watch it maneuver through the mountains. It past my semi with great precision. Absolutely amazing! As a truck driver, this is going to rock the industry when they're able to convert big semis to the concept. Wow!!!!

  • More than 10% ov the US population is out of work and theey want to push a driverless car? American "know-how" in action once again...

  • Bullshit. I'm driving my own damn car. Thank you.

  • This car is outfitted with bells and whistles. Look at the Volkswagen and the BMW and you won't even notice that it is driverless!

  • it is weird but pretty cool

  • this is bull shit if cars drive themself itll be as pointless as anything it's just like ilegally inserting a brain chip into a horse to put its mind focusing on finsihing first place in a track there will be no skill at racing nascar will go out of business car insurrance will soon die and the world will be taking over by driverless cars soon theyll fucking go hay wire and kill anyone in the car and drive themselves off a cliff due to malfuctions this is just a waste of the economy's money

  • meh, I still like driving my own car with my own hands..and not having some robot do it for me..

  • so what if your 15 years old in the passenger seat and the car drives itself ? you will not get in trouble or the fact is your not the driver .... very very cool

  • i bet the japanese will develop the first working prototype

  • I like the idea of all autos being public property. Order the sized vehicle you want and it shows up at your front door and takes you and/or your group to your destination. After it drops you off, it picks up someone else and keeps working. Everyone will actually travel at the same high speed on the highway. Sleep on your way to work or with a few beers in you on the way home from a party. Survive!!! If you can trust an aircraft to go on auto pilot, you should be able to trust a car.

  • It would be great if the car doesn't look like a "No-drivers-car"..

Like it looks like a regular road car so no one will notice the car is "Driving-itself'

  • When will this be on market ?

  • so does this mean that anyone can drive now, you dont need to take a road test and kids can take the wheel its so stupid..i hate this....i wanna control my car sorry its such a stupid idea it really is....no more road tests greatt.....wtf this is so dumb..my grandfather if he was still alive would hate this idea too...so retarded..omgg wtf ..even my family hates it lol..i hope they put them on the road after im dead.

  • I agree that a driverless care would be great, but for one thing imagine a stop sign if everything goes well its fine but if it someone goes out of turn how is the computer suppose to know when to go. I guess with the sensors on board it could slowly manuever around. I think on the interstate it would be great, side streets and parking lots would be a nightmare.

  • @jerclo1 - The nightmare is the limited imagination that most people have in finding solutions to problems. We've been to the moon and fly millions of miles DAILY without any significant incident. I think negotiating a side street isn't going to be an issue, much less a nightmare. Human beings kill over 18,000 yearly in the USA alone with automobiles. That's an epidemic screaming for a cure.

  • @q2alphadog - I am all for solutions so much as it works. With reference to the autopilot on airplanes we don't trust them if we did we wouldn't have pilots. I just hope people stay alert, computers are known for failure. Thanks for the cheap shot with limited imagination what the hell did I do to you?

  • you know, a car that drives itself would be a good thing for those who cant drive (like those who cant get a license cuz their legally blind)

  • IN SOVIET RUSSIA CAR DRIVES YOU!

  • howwould it know when to cross go acroos an intersection

  • @prowrestling231 - lol Really? Dude, stop watching "pro" wrestling and the answers will start flooding in...

  • if someone hacked into their computers they could make the most deadly virus ever, however id love to see this car for everyone prly will be weird at first thou

  • *hums "Christine" theme tume*

  • what happens when a car with driver comes to a stop sign with a car with no driver? When pulling out from a shopping center how does it know how fast the oncoming traffic is coming. So someone will have to be in the drivers seat.

  • @jerclo1 think about it, couldnt it have a speed gun or something?

id love to have a car that drives itself. There are legally blind people who cannot drive and this would definitly solve the problem of not getting around much.

  • Software/hardware failures would result in MUCH MUCH MUCH less death than drunk driving.

  • funny... cars will still crash, software errors, hardware stuff ups... name some software/hardware that has never failed

  • the Volksvagen driverless car looked a lot sleeker and more developed. That thing has weird shit and sensors popping out the roof.. its to ugly to sell... theyd need to figure that out before commercialization i think.

  • I think the VW is a ROV, remotely operated vehicle, whereas this one makes decisions itself, so a totally different thing.

  • yes it did look sleeker BUT it remembered the track... this car actually avoids objects and navigates in real time.

  • You know, we had this as the very first project when I was in college. To invent the driverless car. We took it to another level with whole systems managing the cars within a certain traffic system. Think what a perfectly working system like this can do for rush hour traffic, 911 distress traffic, it is a revolutionary thought I think.

  • What if it malfunctions, then you're screwed?

  • Have a warning set up that screams "Grab my steering wheel If you want to live you lazy bastard!!" whenever the system fucks up... or just at random intervals to keep people on their toes haha

  • I think its nieve to think that drivers can't do any of the millions of other jobs available and there are millions available especially when you consider self employed projects, have some imagination I'm sure you can think of something.

Regarding driverless lorry's, my guess is they will operate with staff regardless of the new technology much as automated trains do, its just puts peoples minds at rest, plus the drivers also have to manage the loading and de loading of stock.

  • I don't want this to come out! Do you know how many people would be put out of a job because of this? THere would be no taxi, truck, bus, etc. drivers. That is how they put food on their tables!

It's the darkside to automation. As the amount of automation goes up, the amount of jobs goes down.

  • microeconomic theory states that those truck drivers, taxi cab drivers and others will shift from one industry to another...as the job eventually becomes weeded out.

its happened before and it will continue happened...economic evolution...right before your eyes

  • Yeah but that happens with any advances in tech. The lower technology levels are, the more people you need to hire to do grunt work for that sector. Think agriculture... How many millions of people would have jobs as farmhands right now if only we didnt have modern farming/harvesting/planting equipment.

Oh damn i guess we'll just have to suck it up and advance...phooey

  • isn't GM closed?

if it is then I don't think this car will be in the future!

  • Robots can't turn on us, but why would they when we program them to be this dangerous already

  • EVOLUTION, NOT REVOLUTION. I'm for a driverless acar but I realize that to do this, it has to occur incrementally because if there's a problem it'll be easier to diagnose. Already car companies like Mercedes-Benz is doing it thru its following pioneering innovations (from earliest to latest):

    AntiLock Brakes,

    Traction Control,

    Electronic Stability Program,

    Brake Assist,

    4matic,

    Distronic Cruise Control,

    Active Body Control,

    Pre-Safe Brake

    and after 2010, Pre-Scan.

  • me and my friend thought about this a long time ago they took our idea oh well. but we have another feature that they havent thought of so were still good.

  • my first time i saw a driverless car is knight rider

and i still remember that command

    KITT i need u

  • the ultimate car feature...thats mind blowing

  • If anyone has seen the movie "Minority Report"...I really like the way they portrayed driverless cars....if you havn't seen that movie you should check it out its pretty cool

  • pls remove the steering weel and make it "living-like" :p

  • that would look pimpin cruisin down the block

  • Are you serious? What are 90? all people do in this country is get the next best thing. Once these cars hit the market theyll sell. It's a pretty amazing technology.

  • NAAAH..you'll be able to switch out of both modes..so itll be great to have when drunk or on a long trip.

  • Imagine, there will be no need for drivers licenses anymore. There will be no more crashes. Anyone can just get in one of these and the car will take them wherever they want with the car doing 100% of the driving all the time. Just look how phones evoved from simple phones with cordes to present day cell phones. In reponse to bts24230, these are expected to be on the market in ten years.

  • @rchapaElPaso and you can do youre jourbey while drinking beer and having sex ...:-D

  • @rchapaElPaso --until someone's Desk flies out of their pickup and onto the freeway.

  • @rchapaElPaso You'll still need a driver's license for when things break down.

  • @rchapaElPaso wheres the fun in that...

  • how long before these cars come out on market ?

  • It would be great if the car could keep drunk drivers from causing fatal crashes!!

  • I wonder how insurance companies will respond to this kind of vehicle. lol

    I want one of these!

  • More than likely, they will not want this tech to come out. There's no money in it for them. It's the same as the sole reason that healthcare will probably never become socialized. But hey, maybe I'll be wrong. Hopefully, I'm wrong. That, or they'll figure out a way to make us pay for some kind of insurance anyway...

  • Sweet.

  • Hmm, there is hope for my retirement year. No need for driver liscence any more.

  • I think even once its released theyd probably still require a license to be the err... "driver" (person in the driver's seat) just incase it malfunctions or something

  • they should put it on an actual street to see how it handles

  • They did. 60 miles. It was a pentagon competition.

  • its a good car but to much stuff on it

  • but with time it will get smaller, look at the first cellphone, it was huge

  • @10po01p look at the first computer, it was 500 tonnes costed millions and could only do 3 calculations per second. now they can do something like billions of calculations per second
