  • I love Irish moss! I prepare it the same way, but I also add in vanilla extract, a dab of almond or soy milk, nutmeg, cinnamon & brown sugar. You can substitute the sugar & almond or soy with condensed pet milk. This is an absolute favorite among the island carib community. It has an good amount of electrolytes and is superb for pregnant women. Also, my husband will sometimes add it to Guinness Stout for an extra kick. I guess it's suppose to be some kind of "Aphrodisiac"...

  • eugh.

Irish moss tastes like the smell of an overcrowded hospital ward.

    5:18 <- admirable blenderface.

  • can irish moss be used along with kefir in recipes?

  • I love you Matt, but.....please don't put the spoon back in after you have licked it!! Yucko! EEEEEWWWW!

  • @iammeganp27 I agree. That's SOOOOOOOO gross and horribly unsanitary. it's a good way to get sick and get other people sick, too.

  • I am surprise to hear that. As long as I know the "irish moss" is the "chondrus crispus" (which I thought was used by Matt and Angela as well as Kevin Gianni and other people in the raw food movement.

Yes the "Euchema cottonii and "Euchema spinosum" are other varieties in the same family of "red algaes"... are they more "creamy" in color ? are they really better for uncooking ??? That is the question.

  • @crudinette thanks because i was given the creamy colored irish moss from transition nutrition. I blended this same product you see in this video and my blood pressure changed so dramatically i almost passed out. I got a weird tension headache afterwards. I bought 2 pounds of this stuff for 40 bucks and I am scared as hell of it. i would never ingest this stuff again in my life.

  • Very cool video. It turned out so creamy.

  • I have seen several websites warning about the dangers of carrageen.

Since carrageen is what irish moss is mostly made up of,

What is your advice on the possible side effects of consuming this item?

    Is it safe?

  • @gio144 irish moss is good for the human body period. What is bad for you a fact is fruits that have no seeds meaning it was tampered with it's not from the blessings from the most High the Creator. Peace

  • Good instructional vid. However, everything I've read says the Irish Moss paste / gel will last about 3 weeks in the fridge (not 5 years)! :)

  • I'm about to make this on this snowed-in day!

  • Ah cool my boyfriends caribbean and they have it as a smoothie breakfast in a bottle too

  • Y'all got it goin! I studied with Dr. Jubb..he can create a 'scrambled egg' dish with irish moss. Tastes sooo good. I couldn't do the same at my kitchen, I'm thinking he hypnotised me to think it was scrambled eggs. Do y'all know any recipe for "eggs"?

  • Matt's dad was watching The Family Man with Nick Cage in the background. What a sweet movie. And great Irish Moss instruction. An intimidating ingredient made easy.

  • How do you use the Irish Moss Powder that you sell on your website???

  • I have laughed out loud :) at 1:18 so funny!!

  • Haven't made mine yet! Thanks for doing the run through. I was wondering about it when I saw Daniel with it.

  • My Birthday was Yesterday on September 1 1991.

  • And my sister bought me a zapper from therawfoodworld

  • haha matt is so funny when hes doing that voice imitating people about the coffee mate...not to sound stupid, but what is coffee mate used for in the raw food world? theyre prolly just recycling bottles and using it to hold something else!

  • Its not their coffee mate because its not their house, they don't have a house

  • is this your guys' house? i love the fruit tiles. whos the dude in the background? you 2 are so cute

  • In Ireland we call it Carrageen. I remember as a child i suffered terrible tonsilitis. Our neighbour would make a jar of carrageen jelly and i would eat it by the spoonful. within 2 days the infection was gone. i wish i had some of her recipes. awesome video matt & angela

  • its Ital and i love it! bless up Monarch's

  • I thought you were totally raw, but I saw a senior citizen on a couch in the background

  • I loooove Irish Moss but I haven't had it in ages.

  • What exactly is Irish Moss? And how did people first start eating it? And do the Irish even eat the stuff? I know that it is a lot of questions but it sometimes feels like the Raw community is reaching for things we maybe shouldn't. I kind of get the feeling of whatever happen to good old Fruits and greens.

  • What happened to good old fruits and greens? They don't sell.

  • its negative thinking like that that keeps so many americans obese and diseased. Good job!

  • I so agree with you. The foods just get stranger and stranger. You never see just some strawberrys or apples being eaten.

  • @Ejahi

Irish moss was used many , many years ago to feed the starving, it healed a nation, the irish did not die due to their wisdom to turn to nature to save them. they turned to the sea. irish moss can be found in the sea , it is also called sea moss , it is a body nourisher, it has 92 minerals in it and it heals the body of mucus , it removes mucus from the lungs therefore no colds in the winter for women no menstrual cramps i once suffered from menstrual cramps, no more it has mineals

  • @Ejahi....Hey girl you have probably since gotten your answer but it is really seamoss from the caribbean a lot of trinidadian, and jamaicans and peep from barbados use it. High in iodine, potasium, selenium and has some element and hormones that help with thyroid problems. The Irish used it on their skin. Sorta like a kelp or dulse.

  • Wow, that actually looks very much like pastry cream. Fantastic.

  • see I just really dont want to eat moss from any country. This is were raw food gets lost on me. Id rather die in my 80s or 90s and eat anything but moss.

  • it's not moss its seaweed, it's just called irish moss. people have been eating seaweed for thousands of years.

  • How do you get WHITE irish moss ??? I bought some but it is brown which is its natural colour... what is the process which turns it to white ??

Many thanks again for all your videos !

    Colette

  • @crudinette

    Soaking, washing, rinsing !

  • @ladytezt - Thanks for your reply but It just doesn't work at all for me ! I have been told that to get a kind of creamy white the moss has to be dried under the sun (that is what said the producer). And even this kind after soaking, washing and rinsing stays creamy... with bits of reddish colour.

  • @crudinette

Interesting! Are you looking for something paler than what's shown in this video? If not, have you tried buying Irish Moss from their website (Raw Food World)? I bet they are using their own product in this video - I certainly hope so!

  • @ladytezt - What they show on the video should be OK for me and it seems to be a bit whiter than the "white" one I received from the french harvester (I am in France) who told me about the sun, after having tried the red (and naturel) moss. I did not tried the one from the Raw food World (perhaps some time later... the shipping is a bit expensive).

  • @crudinette

I'm sorry - I didn't realize you are in France! I bet there are good sources of Irish Moss on your side of the Atlantic. Check the websites or Facebook pages of the British raw foods folks - like Karen Knowler or Russell James (he definitely uses Irish Moss). Maybe they can help. Bonne chance!

  • @ladytezt - Many thanks to you - Yes I know theses sources but we try to get this product in Brittany (France) where there is great harvesting of seaweeds, and we have to encourage producers (it is here only for cosmetics !), so to be able to sell it later on our website (Veganbio).

  • @crudinette because what everyone is using is NOT REAL Irish Moss ..it is actually Euchema or Sea Moss..it still has wonderful properties and health advantages..but it's not Irish..real Irish moss is a reddish brown and grows in Ireland. I got a sample of it from the company there that distributes it...but have not actually tried to make irish moss paste with it...i have a feeling the creamy white substance from the Euchema Sea Moss probably works better...just a guess though.
