@RafikiGurl123 marni was also one of the Nuns in Sound of Music, singing how do you solve a problem...also, this one and yes, my fair lady, which I think they should have kept Julie for Eliza.
As a youngster I was moved by the music of R&H -- still am; as a man I'm moved by the words of Oscar Hammerstein II, more and more. I discovered him in this musical--the text to "I Have Dreamed." That is what this man does with no limits. Thanks for sharing.
This is a true story. They have what they believe are the true pictures of Anna and her family, if you look it up. It is an interesting story, and there have been a couple of books written about them. Worth a read...
totally agree with Muzikfree4jzuz. Today's music is so laced with profanity that half of it has to be bleeped out. Whats the point? So you can curse...yeah for you. So very sad.
@alanivox So true!! All you hear is meaningless lyrics, with such bad tunes...and not to mention the belting voices that sing them!!! The pure legit soprano voice is lost in today's musicals, with very few retaining them (The Light in the Piazza being a ray of hope :D)...and everyone prefers the belt voice, as you don't need as much training to access a belt and chest voice...deplorable.
Hello young lovers whoever you are~ I hope your troubles are fused. All my good wishes go with you tonight~ I've been in love like you~ Be brave young lovers and follow your star Be brave and faithful and true~ Cling very close to each other tonight~ I've been in love like you~ I know how it feels,to have wings on your heels and to fly down a street in a turan. You'll fly down the street and a chance that you'll meet. And your meet... Not really by chance~~~
Omg; Come on ppl..Give the animated version a break. I happen to adore both! Of course, there willnever be another king or Ana like Mr. Brennar or Mrs. Kurr..But the Actors & Actresses that voiced it; as well as the animation were wonderful...I'll admit there are certain aspects the animated version lacks; but that doesn't mean it's 'Crappy' as you so rudly put it!
Deborah Kerr was one of the only musical stars who gracefully accepted the fact that she was an actress, not a professional singer, and didn't have issues with her dubber.
She was too wonderful to have that kind of hubris, and I love her even more for it.
@collieness Just guessing -- Do you think that might be an Aussie attribute? All I know about Australia (having been there and read everything about her), there's nothing I don't like.
The underfunded Australian Broadcasting Corporation, washing the aborigine maltreatment laundry in public, Rob Sitch, Cate Blanchett, (forget about Mel Gibson), and Steve Irwin. (By the way, if any of you go to Australia you'll find most folk live in cities.)
I love the lyrics to this song, but my main problem with it (like my main problem with a lot of Oscar and Hammerstein musicals) is that I feel like they run out of ideas towards the end of each song. The last few lines were so repetitive and killed the climax of the music for me. But it's a beautiful song nonetheless and it's one of my favorites
@MabiGal93 Well, I think that the dalek on my dresser will answer that question for u... but no, u r right, disney has come up with some great moments, and since writing that comment, my view has changed. The origional is great, but the remake isn't that bad.
All of Oscar Hammerstein's lyrics were so beautiful and fit so amazingly with the story they were portraying. Ole Man River is my favorite all-time song, which he wrote to Jerome Kern's music. I am a great fan of Oscar's genius and all his wonderful work. Also, his lyrics went perfectly with Rodgers' music in all their work together.
@fogradar No you don't want the cartoon version! I am 15 and a musician and this is one of the most beautiful compositions I have ever seen. I don't need it poisoned by some crappy disney cartoon
@Tardisgir1 Ok I will admit I disagree...I happen to lvoe both versions...But I have to ask you...Is that Tardis I see on your username? A dr. who fan perhaps? :D Lol
@frogradar No, no you do not. In addition to being badly animated and badly sung, the cartoon version is just wierd; they kill a magical sea monster with Whistle A Happy Tune. I'm not even kidding.
@frogradar that horrible movie ? I used to love it , then I saw this one and I quickly forgot about it. BUT this is my opinion and I respect yours. :)
It's amazing to think how a young scottish lady could speak pure english, I have been trying for 54yrs, excellent movie, bye the way who is singining the song.
Beautiful and classy Ms Kerr assisted by Marni Nixon .They mixed and matched their voices. Result is Magic. Another star of the era, Maureen O'Hara, nearly got the film role. And she was a fine and rarely used soprano.Look her up on Youtube.Talented ladies all three.

@Doylefromhell The 1999 animated version shows what Tom looks like, would it be possible to combine both songs from both versions (example:1956 footage, 1999 audio, vice versa?)
Yes I loved that song and the rest of the music in the movie as well. It was said that in certain respects, R&H had a "pipeline directly to heaven" regarding their music. It did take some getting used to when I realized that it was Marnie Nixon who was singing these songs instead of Ms. Kerr....
does marni nixon dub the singing in My Fair Lady? She sounds like the Eliza in that movie :)
