I lol-ed affectionately at the "Mrs. Calabash" comment. I spent a lot of years without a clue to who Mrs. Calabash was [wherever she was...], and I'm not entirely sure I ever heard the REAL story. But bless Uncle Jay for remembering, and bless Jimmy Durante...wherever HE is.
Yes, the poor kids of today, not knowing about things from OUR time. Like televisions where one would actually have to get up to turn the channel or adjust the volume. Or how about when something called Minute Rice was thought of as real rice, and before there was microwave Minute Rice, which takes 5 minutes, not one. ???
Dare I bring up "white-wall tires", or "full service gasoline stations"? How about 45's, and no, not the weapon, but a source of entertainment!
@Atatakaidan Don't worry, I still remember waiting for the TV to warm up, a wireless that had nothing to do with computers and playing games like 'cowboys and indians'.
Getting some serious views this week UJ. Congrats!

Nice choices for the words of the day, but I felt that this episode was lacking in, well, news...
Even so, I, for one, look forward to explaining to my kids internet culture. Might even be harder than explaining it to my parents...

"Steve" in Canada isn't quite accurate anymore
There should be a question mark there

"Good night Mrs. Kalabash wherever you are". That was Jimmy Durante's line at the end of his show. Who was she and where is Jimmy Durante now????
medliberty 11 months ago
@medliberty According to Wikipedia, "Mrs. Calabash" was a pet name for his first wife and he died in 1980.
