@summer71ful Bullshit. A lot of champions refused to fight opponents for whatever reason. Doesn't mean he was ducking him. And doesn't take away from what he accomplished. He was the bareknuckle champion of the world, and also the first gloved champion of the world. And only had one loss in his career, his last fight.
I wish they would have done the entire fight punch by punch. That was a historical battle and unfortunately it was not filmed. I read an article that said the movie "Gentleman Jim" depicted the few rounds of the fight exactly as it occurred; with Ward Bond as John L, and Errol Flynn as Corbett. Flynn was a perfect choice .
@margot9230 From what I've read the fight was not the most entertaining or exciting to watch, but it was historical. In modern parlance, it was a clinker. If I picked a Sullivan fight to see it would be his fight with Ryan in '82 for the title. And a Corbett fight I'd like to see is his barge fight with Choynski in '89

and btw.. I shook the hand of Richie Giacchetti who shook the hand of Muhammad Ali who shook the hand of Joe Louis who shook the hand of Jack Dempsey who shook the hand of Jess Willard who shook the hand of Jack Johnson who shook the hand of Jim Jeffries who shook the hand of THE GREAT JOHN L SULLIVAN.
aahh shit no, I can wait a little to shake his hand in paradise.. lol well, at least we will finally know who was the greatest.. cant wait to see that Ali-Tyson fight when I get there ! ;)
oh btw, I dont know how you create that reproduction, very interesting but not what I plan to do. I'd like to recreate fights like that but on Fight Night, much easier but I dont want to film my TV... you surely know how to get a video game action recorded on ur PC ? maybe with a cable ?

John L Sullivan was no world champ, he refused to fight the top contender who was Peter Jackson. A real champ wouldnt not duck any fighter.

@andrewr62 Boxers, like wheat speculators, never know when to get out of the game

@eslubin Depends on your point of view. The Corbett fight was
John L's biggest fight purse by far of his entire career.
andrewr62 1 year ago
@andrewr62 True but he did die broke. Somehow things work out the way they are suppose to, in the end. For better or worse
eslubin 1 year ago
@eslubin Actually according to the book "John L Sullivan And He's America"
John L Sullivan died solvent. Buy no means wealthy, but he and his wife
did own there own house and property in Boston at the time of his death.
So maybe things do work out as they should.
