the problem with all these instructional videos is that they are beyond the abilities of home builders. also the fellow almost bejabbered himself with the coat hanger device, complicated enough in and of itself.
1Thanks for your interest:: Some of the older comments/responses here may be of some help to you, but I´d be happy to email you a diagram and closeups (as some have already requested) just give me your email adress. And have fun!
don't care for bottles, not missing your point. started making my own antennas for digital converter boxes, just like in the youtube videos. works very well. i've tried very expensive amplified and non-amplified antennas which i returned. nothing works as good as my home-built. now going to try to modify my designs and use vhf/uhf/fm balun.
wire hangers are fine but i wanted to try something different. now using copper wire. seems to work just as good.
is there a "euro" store where you live? you can buy one rabbit ears antenna for a euro. why waste time making silly video. doesnt even look good with the bottle.
what a dork and a waste of time. Just show the ANTENNA, not you drinking wine doof. You also act as if the coat hangger is going to hurt you for cutting it!
how is the cable attached to the antenna? do you use a balun? Is the center of the cable connected to one side and the shield to another? or is the center connected to both sides?
it´s centre fits directly onto the nail (you´ll have to find a nail that allows a snug fit) which is connected to one side, while the other side connects (yes) the outer/connecting cylinder of the cable (shield?); the idea being to create 2 separerate signal paths: => bi-polar antenna
thanks, I built a cb antenna some years ago with a long piece of 300 ohm tv wire, it is like a ribbon with a wire running on each edge. The center of the cable went to one wire and the shield went to the other. called folded dipole antenna. same idea
Anyone can sit and make something. Why dont you explain what you are doing as you are doing it? Too confusing. Show detail and explain for God's sakes.
a wirecoat hanger cut in two using whatever does the job, which leaves two basically equal lengths of wire: You also nees an emty winebottle, it´s cork ant a nail. That´s all
well .. I´m sort of in a Parisian suburb: I get all the (free) major channels TF1, TF2,TF3, ARTE (5) and M6 that are broadcast via the Eiffel tower 6km from my home.
about the euating..good question and not the first time someone asks; I was only trying to show what you can do with the bottles contents..: But you´re right; that´s not the difficult par!? As for The Yoda reference: Yes, I am aware of that!!
i'd like to learn and make one, but I am not clear how it actually look like at the bottom part due to the shown diagram isn't clear as video... where can I find it on the net? Appreciated any help..
Hi sorry about this late response: There´s a zoom on the antenna at the end of the vid; maybe you missed it? -As for the diagram I´ll email it to you on request (you@??). and close ups of the finished object if it still isn´t clear..;)
Okay so I made this. This works great; I manage to get channels (although a bit fuzzy, i'd need some help on that :O) and i'm below ground level. To plug the F connector to the nail, I bought an F to Female analog convertor, if that may help anyone.
Now I tried making this antenna, and found channels 2, 4, 7, and 9 very clear. But after finishing the rest of the antenna holder ...the UHF channels were kinda fuzzy!!!! LOL
good point apparently; please look at some of the older comments,
I´m using a BNC connector which plugs directly onto the nail .. I guess you americans do things diffrently.. like with units of measure (inches and feet and not metric)? ´F´ connectors? ´Never seen one !! Glad to see people are trying this out ;)
Yes, I agree it is a dipole antenna. The commercial ones are called Rabbit Ears and they come with telescoping rods that can be pulled out or retracted. Hmm.. but they also come with a 300ohm to 75ohm balun transformer. Rabbit Ears are 300ohm outputs, the same as Peturk's and Tv set Ant input is 75ohm. I think if the transformer is use, the reception will be even better! Got to try it...
Oh , that!! It´a little brutal, depending on the nail you use: I just plug it directly ONTO the nail! the nail being in contact with one arm of the antenna the exterieur part of the plug being in contact with the other arm..:) A true dipole; No magic!
Keep in mind he is using a BNC connector which are extremely popular in Europe, trying this with an F connector would be a bit more difficult. In this case a "F" connecting barrel would do fine (the piece that is used to extend coax runs by the cable company).
LOL, ever use a sewing pin to do a quick fix to a beheaded RG59 cable?
cool..i like those stuff...knowing how stuff works and creating something with your own hands is really something than just buying it from the store...but what i really didnt like in this video is that this guy spent more time showing how he ate with his friends (lol :P) (and thus consuming the wine that was in the bottle he used) than ACTUALLY the creation of the antena...a close-up on the cork would be goob just to show the details...
I was too busy gettin into the macguyver music to hear what you had to say sorry...

I like red wine, myself. Will the antenna work just as well if a white wine bottle is used???
gunneralquist 2 years ago
yes any bottle can work
anoob100 2 years ago
No. Has to be red. And the more expensive the wine, the better the signal.
