It would have looked so much cooler if it was filmed with Super 8 or 16mm to give it that natural film look cause faking the decayed footage looks off.
This looks better than the 1970 movie. Damn straight some things never rest in peace! Like my appetite for awesomeness! I'm going to have to watch this sometime.
Bethesda Softworks (and their related companies) are rather fond of H.P. Lovecraft's works in general. "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion," for instance, has a quest called "The Shadow over Hackdirt," which parallels portions of the Lovecraft story, "The Shadow over Innsmouth." They also helped to publish another game, "The Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth," which is almost entirely centered around that same story. :P
The inhabitants don't look sufficiently inbred and degenerate. It's miscegenation's to blame. Kennedy's to blame with his desegregationing, ye can't get an adequately inbred cultist these days.
C'mon, tell the truth - the more inbred the actor, the less they take direction. It's a trade off. You saw that whole Christian Bale meltdown. Need I say more?
Amazing trailer, I wonder when someone will do as Tarantino and Rodriguez and actually make the feature movie looks like that... the sad true is with those philters off, the movie will lose a lot no matter what, it can be awesome, but it'll lose charm...
I've seen the film, and got the DVD. They don't use the grindhouse filters in the movie. It's clean HD and looks great. The cinematography is really quite beautiful.
Where can I buy the DVD? I remember I was pointed out to a site a few days ago but I couldn't really find straight info as to whether they were really selling or not, it was a bit confusing.
Read about this a while back in Fangoria.....it sounded great, and it looks great too! And yes, I can certainly see the Lucio Fulci influence....

On further review it could be West Island,
Same deal - one is east of New Bedford and the other west.
Both nice spots.
Both have similar old/decaying spotting towers right on the water.

1:13 - 1:14 - Gooseberry Island
That was a WWII base that looked out for Nazi U-boats.
Great spot.

@npspec34
That is indeed Gooseberry Island. I spent many a happy moment there as a child during the 70s and 80s, and as an adult I was married there.

is this a "sequel" to city of the living dead?
video631king 2 years ago
Sort of. It's very inspired by the works of Lucio Fulci. Especially The Beyond and City of the Living Dead.
rickythegriff 2 years ago
@video631king that movie was unique.. it could only be made in the 80's

Any sex scenes in this movie?
mrsinn 2 years ago
Oh, plenty of sex scenes. Including a three-way scene involved two guys and a girl. We thought dear old Howard would get a real rise from it!

I was an extra in the club scene and it was a wonderful experience! The trailer looks awesome, Rich!

Why does this look and sound like a trailer made in about 1972?
GoblinXXX 2 years ago 2
That was the point. I love movies made in that time period. It was our way of paying tribute.
rickythegriff 2 years ago
Alrighty. Mission accomplished. ;) Reminds me of trailers for things like BEYOND THE DOOR and BASKETCASE.

I couldn't get a better compliment than that! Thank you!!
