You're right, of course. But this game begins in 1900, when the two terms were used interchangeably. That's also why two of the Turkish centers are Constantinople (not İstanbul) and Smyrna (İzmir).
@LEDzeppROCKS313 Typical are A Ven-Tyr, A Rom-Ven, F Nap-Ion anti-Austrian. A Ven-Pie, A Rom-Ven, F Nap-Ion neutral. A Ven H, A Rom-Apu, F Nap-Ion to convoy the army to Tun in the Fall. Sometimes you and Austria ally and you move Ven-Tyr in the Spring but then Tyr-Mun or Tyr-Boh to go anti-Germany in the Fall. Also, A Rom-Ven or Tus, A Ven-Pie, F Nap-Tyn is full anti-French. You can find articles on play in the 112 issues of Diplomacy World, at diplomacyworld . net
Thank you so very much for putting up these videos. I picked up the game about a month ago for a group of homeschoolers studying WWI. I had no idea how difficult it would be for me to understand the game quickly enough to explain. Your videos, all four, saved the day! I'm eternally grateful and my group had a blast with the game.
@lolatyoulol Diplomacy players know this. But since the Ottoman monarchs were Turks, and Turkey was the seat of the Empire, and since Turkey is 2 syllables and "Ottoman Empire" is 5, people mostly just say Turkey, though I often like to refer to them as "The Ottomans".
me and my friends made our own board...its huge and have painted shotgun shells for fleets and armies...its pretty cool and im sure we cud play with the best
Diplomacy is like heroin. I'm addicted

Sigh.

I am obsessed with this game. I have the original 1961 version, and it is far more entertaining than any video game I have ever played.

Every country should change its name to "Switzerland"
That is about as effective as having no name at all I guess.
