Allied were lucky because of Hitler stupidity in not to understand the value of the jet fighter and some other wast technologies. A big pity for German scientist and engineers.
Heinkel had a flying jet in August 1939.Yes even before Germany attacked Poland.Fortunately Hitler and Luftwaffe never realized the potential the jet had and largely ignored the jet early in the war. Therefore jet development was slow and by the time the Me262 appeared the war was as good as lost.
The Coanda was a jet but a so called thermojet, where a pistonengine drives the compressor. The loss of power is such that it would make more sense to put a propeller on the pistonengine, which is what they did until a turbine could drive the fans of the jet and make it efficient.
The Germans invented the best type of jet engine (axial flow), but the metallurgy wasn't up to it at the time. The Junkers Jumo version was very unreliable and the BMW version absolute crap! So the cruder British engine (annular)was operationally within then tolerances and the best version at the time and THAT'S what mattered.
@jacob1363 You do know that the Brits invented Radar, and they also broke all the Krauts Radio codes. The Allies listening in on every move the krauts made and took the game to a higher level because of this British techology ....The Third Reich lost a great deal of their best planes and pilots over the skies of England in the batlle of britian and any german assigned to a u-boat was as good as dead...
You know what, 90% of German army destruction imposed by Red army, and also late in the war German war machine was working with 25% of standard needed fuel. Germany was not fighting even with one of his hands to Allied. All military experts believe no single power was able to defeat Nazi Germany.
You forget, the Germans were fighting against about 20 of the biggest countries in the world.
That was definetely megalomaniac.
But still, the innovation power of this country was incredible and not to compare to any other power in the world.
Brits invented Radar, that's right...
Germans invented: x-ray, automobile, jet plane, steerable rocket, fm (because the brits prohibited the am frequencies in Germany after WW II), television etc. etc.
@fivesixtysl And don't you forget, the axis powers had been at war in Europe and in the far East for at least five years before the United States were dragged into the conflict. The Axis powers had the luxury of a military build up during peacetime before they decided on a quest of expanding their empires where as Britian and America had to defend and build as they went along during the fighting
Bottom line is the ME 262 Schwable is the FIRST JET to shoot another plane down thats what matters. The British stuff was junk before during and after the war.
Par 1 (didn't make it the first try)Dr. Hans von Ohain and Sir Frank Whittle are both recognized as being the co-inventors of the jet engine. Each worked separately and knew nothing of the other's work. Hans von Ohain is considered the designer of the first operational turbojet engine.
From what I read the Coandă-1910 couldn't be clasified as a succesful jet powered aircraft!! so then it comes down to personal opinion as to whether you classify it as a successful flight!!! The Wright Flyer at least landed and flew again. Food for thought.
Part 2 : Hans von Ohain was granted a patent for his turbojet engine in 1936. However, Hans von Ohain's jet was the first to fly in 1939. Frank Whittle's jet first flew in in 1941. The internet is a great source!!!!
Actually guys I read a book years ago that had England and Germany developing the jet engine before the WWII and it was total government bureaucracy that delayed the introduction. Hitler wanted bombers to win the war and the pommy war ministry couldn't see the benefits.
The Gloster-Whittle E 28/39 was the first ever jet-propelled aircraft to complete flight test and receive permission to enter service on May 15th 1941
what the germans had nver a plane what was named Me 162 maybe you mean the Me 163 "Komet" but the first plane with jet engine , used in war was the Me 262.
The Coandă-1910 was the first jet-propelled aircraft ever built. It was constructed by Romanian inventor Henri Coandă and exhibited by him at the Second International Aeronautical Exhibition in Paris around October 1910.
Actually the engine was tested on a prop divebomber (The He-118) before being used on the He-178. So technically, a propellor driven aircraft was the first to be powered by a jet engine... It actually shut down its propellor briefly in flight to fly with the turbojet. It was tested late at night and people reported strange noises and pieces of metal on the ground.
Hehe...Well Tommy... I'm gonna be extra picky and say that, technically...the first aircraft to ever fly under the power of a turbojet engine was actually the He-118 prop driven divebomber. In testing the engine for the first time they strapped it to the belly and turned it on in flight (Actually turning off the propellor briefly). This was a test done before placing the engine aboard the He-178.
(The test was done late at night and people reported strange noises and pieces of metal.)
Actually the He 178 was the first turbojet power aircraft ever. True the 262 was the first 2 be used in combat. im such a bitch for correctin every video mistake i c.
mustangs were cheaper to build and were almost as fast as the 262, but not as ; )

O ye ? British are always good at bluff not inventing. In WWII your technology was absolutely retarded in compare with Germans!

deadlier for who the pilot?

The Komet was way deadier it was a rocket not a jet and went about 600mph
