@sportsland2015 "tate forcier he is good no doubt but devin gardner is ALOT better"
He may be but Gardner is not just competing against Tate. Denard looked STONG AS HELL durring the spring practices and both Tate and Denard have more experience. Devin may be better in the long run but I don't think he is going to be better for next season. I hope Devin get's redshirted. Devin as a 5th year senior = win.
No offense to anyone who knows this kid, but I saw a lot of blown tackles at or behind the LOS that were just missed tackles, not ones where Gardiner made them miss. Also, he is by far and away the most athletic guy on the field, which is great at high school, but against the PSU and Wiscy defenses, in all likelihood he won't be able to do that. Say what you will but if I'm an opposing Big 10 DC, this guy doesn't scare me nearly as much as people make out he should
You can't make your entire opinion based on one rushing mix, the guy is already getting comparisons to Pryor, Young, and Clark. He is undoubtedly the most athletic player one the field in this video, he was also one of the most athletic QBs in the country in 09', and a five star recruit.
That isn't to say that stars mean a whole lot, they don't, but since it's these guys' job to rate players by their potential, I'd say they know a little more about it than you and me.
@TRSaunders09 This isn't the only video I've seen and they all tend to be pretty much the same thing, Gardner running away from the Defense. I admit he's a decent passer but RR's spread is on average 70% run, so how effective will he be thru the air.
Also, you didn't take issue with my contention that against a defense with good contain, good pursuit angles and solid tackling he wont be nearly as impressive.
He was pretty impressive in the Under Armor Game, He really impressed scouts when he went camping. Once he gets his trowing mechanics down (which he should this spring and summer) he is a great passer.
Rich Rodriguez's offense is a run heavy spread offense, which is exactly where he will thrive given his speed and evasiveness. But 70% is pretty high, they actually threw quite a bit last year, and given the depth at WR and SB they should be throwing quite a bit this year as well.
At WVU he averaged 71.5% run 02-07. Granted it may be different with a deep recieving corps at UM but still...
Again you ignored my main point, again, that this atleticism can be nullified by a fundamentally sound Defense eg OSU and Wisconsin. It doesnt matter how fast you are if one guy can get a hold of one knee, you're going no where, particularly if it's in the backfield, but thats another topic entirely.
I addressed you main point, and I'd add that some of the defenses he faced this year were pretty good, hell they made it to the state championships, and upset an OHSAA powerhouse during the season, and Gardner was amazing.
"It doesn't matter how fast you are if one guy can get a hold of one knee"
True, but Michigan has a very good Oline coming back, and their receivers are some of the best blockers at their position.
@soulflyx69 It's not the fact that he's a freshman, it's the fact that his entire skill set can be nullified by good upfield penetration, good outside contain, good pursuit angles and solid wrap up tackling. The kind that the B10 is based around, which is exaclty why I don't think he'll be the messiah everyone seems to think he'll be as against teams like OSU, Wisconsin, Iowa and Penn State, he won't be able to break off these kinds of runs because they're so fundamentally sound.
I highly doubt its that simple; actually people have been making that argument about plenty of scramblers in the Big Ten, and for the most part it's wrong.
"He, and any run first QB for that matter, will never scare me as I know if I'm packing a fundamentally sound Defense with good team speed and wrap up tackling, they can't hurt me in any serious way."
That explains why Terrell Pryor has been an utter failure thus far.
@TRSaunders09 Pryor rushing- 35 yards vs Wisconsin and 29 vs Iowa. He ran well against PSU but that was about it. So if I'm packing a TOP LEVEL D (don't bring up the Toledo or Minnesota game as they aren't a top level D), I don't see why I should be scared of him on the ground. In the pocket, where he has those recievers, that o-line, and with his athleticism as a get out, that scares me. But running first, please, all I need is a shot at one knee
1. You'd need a little more than one shot at a knee, plenty of guys have had that chance and taken it and they got burned, because of his athleticism.
2. Gardner may be a magnificent scrambler but that doesn't mean he'll be a repeat of Denard Robinson's freshman year, Gardner is also a terrific passer, and once he gets down the offense and his throwing mechanics, he'll be a threat to either throw or run it to the house every play.
Pryor is a run first QB, I'd venture to say that in Gardner's first year (hopefully 2011 - after a redshirt) he'll be a more well rounded scrambler, hell he already is. He is a little slower and slightly less agile than Pryor, but he is a much better passer. Like soulflyx said, there is a reason he was MVP of nearly every camp he attended... and it wasn't just his scrambling ability.
@soulflyx69 IAgain, I don't care whether he's a freshman or 5th yr Senior. He, and any run first QB for that matter, will never scare me as I know if I'm packing a fundamentally sound Defense with good team speed and wrap up tackling, they can't hurt me in any serious way.
More's the pity they aren't Chad Henne, there's a QB who stayed in the Pocket where QB's belong and could actually throw the ball further than 30 yards.
"More's the pity they aren't Chad Henne, there's a QB who stayed in the Pocket where QB's belong."
the only place QBs need to be confined to is the field. Of course you know what you may be right, which would explain why most of the premier teams in the country don't run any form of spread option offense... *cough*Florida,Texas*cough*.
Besides Gardner is actually a pretty decent passer.
@TRSaunders09 Oh, thats why Spread option QB's are going number one in the draft and it's the base for every NFL team. That explains why those terrible Wisconsin and Iowa pro-style offenses get owned every week and in their bowls.
Also it isnt the Spread itself I have a problem with (I'm a pats fans and love our spread) its the running QB spread I hate. I admit they work well in College but the second they get into the NFL or play a great D, they no longer have that athletic advantage
1. The Spread hasn't really been given a read shot in the NFL, but since the league is moving to more of a passing league, its possible some teams may switch. But as of yet there hasn't really been a spread coach in the NFL. Sure most teams have a spread "wildcat" formation, but If you really want to see what the spread can do, you need to actually run it, as in a head coach who really knows the spread. NFL Wildcat and NCAA spread offenses, are immensely different.
"hat explains why those terrible Wisconsin and Iowa pro-style offenses get owned every week and in their bowls."
2. I never said that the Pro-Style offense doesn't work, Michigan ran a pro-style offense for decades and it worked out pretty well for them. don't put words in my mouth.
That could be because towards the end of his Career Lloyd Carr went from being a great coach with an exciting pro-style offense, to a terrible recruiter, with a hum-drum, dull pro-style offense, and Rodriguez offers a newer, more fast paced offense.
@TRSaunders09 I suppose dull is really a matter of perspective, I found the 2007 offense pretty entertaining to watch and I absolutely hate watching the new offense and won't no matter how many points it puts up or how fast and dynamic the athletes are, I simply don't like the whole spread option offense.
As you can probably tell im not RR's biggest fan either but it's mainly due to the above, not the other stuff.
It's not as if you have to be a fan of the coach to be a fan of the team. But judging by the offense the last couple of years isn't really fair, there are numerous reasons they didn't do so well, not the least of which is that each year we had a freshman or a walk-on running a very complicated offense.
I probably would agree with you about 2007, if Henne, Hart, and Manningham could've stayed healthy, but since they didn't the offense was somewhat lackluster.
@TRSaunders09 It's not the last few year, it's the system as a whole I don't like. If they'd have put up 55 points a game and won an NC I still wouldn't like it or enjoy watching it. I'll always stand by UM no matter what coach or system but that doesn't mean I have like it.
@cmellows619 i agree with all...in the beginning i did try to give dick rod a chance and even tho he brought an entertaining offense its just not michigan.. i miss the running backs that power their way thru tacklers...the big time recievers that came clutch when we needed them to be...this offense now is just idk...maybe trying to be to flashy
@blackemo26 I miss the QB's who could read anything more than a cover 2, throw more than 30 yards, Defenses that could tackle and, like you said, Backs that instead of dancing around lowered their shoulders and killed someone. I live in the Northeast it pains me to watch a Pats game simply because Im reminded what Michigan QB's used to be, then I turn on a Michigan game, and it's back to reality
i totally agree...i see brady doing well and i see henne making it and i see tate..who i like but i just cant take him seriously..hes a flashy qb..hes not goin to be able to stand in the pocket and make that throw knowing hes gonna take a hit. you can only evade tacklers so much before they put that spy on you and force you to throw..big ten is power and we are goin away from it..even our defense isnt what it used to be..im from ohio and went to OSU but been a Mich fan and it hurts
@TRSaunders09 carr never had bad recruits, top 10 in recruits like every year, he landed woodley the #1 DE, braylon, BG (brandon Graham) an amazing 2007 defense, and michigan had a good secondary, now we have no defense at all, or runningbacks
well he was the mvp of every camp he went to. i mean he will not start while tate is there period. but they cant deny his atletic ability. the only difference between pryer at osu is he can run faster. the big 10 has changed over the years . but you cant judge a kid who will have 2 years to sit and learn. i think he will be great but no messia. none of our QB's are or ever will be Chad Henne. All you can do and i can do is sit back and wait? fair enough. Go Blue
This guy will bring the best out of Drob and Tate. RR will turn DG and CJ into beast QBs. The scary thing is that they are just as fast as Pat White, and have potential to be better. RR offense killed it when he was at WV. I can see the offense at Mihcigan to be alot more explosive and dangerous than at Michigan. If you think RR offense sucks look at WV when they had Pat White. There's your answer.
mallet is a pussy.everyone is going to spread.we need a qb that can run and shit too cuz our line isnt too great or our rbs...we need some rushing yards.gardner is a beast at running and he is a good thrower.thats what we need
@TheGloveMI Thanks for your expertise. I KNOW WHAT KIND OF OFFENSE MICHIGAN RUNS. The catch is that Michigan sucks. RR wants running QBs and is indifferent to defense. Ryan Mallett would be mentioned in Heisman talk if RR wasn't around.
@liquid49720 I know too many people like you. "If he can run good, he sucks at passing". His passing is fine, I think you're look at another video and commenting on this...?
This Devin NEEDS to redshirt so he can maximize his talent and time here....and with Cornelius Jones coming in to replace Denard when/if they move him to slot/3rd string QB....that could set up nicely.
who cares if he can pass or not thats not apart of rich rods offense the offense were running now isnt even half of what were gonna see he uses forcier totally different all we need is a kid who can run
Tate Forcier / Devin Gardner should be competing for the qb spot.
Denard Robinson should move to RB and occasionally play QB in the wildcat.
If Gardner gets beat out, have him redshirt, be the back-up quarterback, and occasionally let him go in at reciever until forcier graduates.
then you have gardners final 2 years to start, and hopefully by then his mechanics will have been improved and we will have that Vince Young type guy we've all been praying for
If he comes in early (Highly Doubtful) he'll probably compete with tate for the starting job. If he enrolls in the summer time, he needs to take a redshirt. Give him a year to bulk up with barwis and get his arm strength and accurracy up, and then he can compete with tate. At worst, he'll get at least two years of starting with the redshirt.
His arm strength up? He was throwing so hard during the under Armour game the receivers couldn't even see the ball. If he works on his arm strength any more he will be breaking receivers wrists when they try to catch a ball..
lol soo true its not his arm strength we need to worry about its his touch and accuracy but with his talent and mobility who cares about that stuff vince young anyone??? lol
Some of the reels must have been from before a "growth spurt" something kuz he doesnt seem as tall in a couple of clips.....maybe its the camera angle...i dunno.....The kid is a beast though
I personally would want rob bolden from orchard lake saint marys, michigan. but hes goin to penn state, devin looked pretty good against lowell so im fine with him =]
This guy is built for BigTen play...unlike Tate...this guy is huge. Slower than I thought..I expected him to blow by high school players...not really though
oh he's fast...not as fast as I thought. He might have some Terrelle Pryor in him...meaning he doesn't look like he's fast but he covers alot of ground because he is so big
Gardner may not be 4.3 fast, but he has a lot of size and strength, and like you mentioned, is more built for the Big 10. Plus, even with his size, I guarantee he's still faster (and obviously a lot more elusive) than Forcier is. Still, Forcier deserves another shot next year, allow him to build up strength in his upper body and he'll be even better. I think it would be smart to redshirt Devin in his first year, that's the smartest thing Rich Rod can do.
Tate still the better QB. This guy plays against weak South eastern high school teams and looks a little above average. Not going to be a qb in college. Has same inaccurate arm as denard robinson
LOL, yeah he's also been evaluated WITH THE BEST, at THE BEST summer scouting camps, thats why THE BEST sites SCOUT, RIVALS both have this kid number one dual threat..
Tate was also rated up there and pryor but both have looked like trash. Shows how much scouts know. You dont know how a high school kid is going to adjust to the faster college game.
LOL yea the likes of mccoy, young, peterson, moss, you kno all the players ever in the 'top' of their positions, NEVER panned out LOL, kid your an idiot.
You named 4 players in which 1 is a dual qb... come on son lets go to school. Rivals #1 dual qb 02 V. Young-good 03 Robert Lane-bad 04 Xavier Lee-bad 05 Ryan Perrilloux-bad 06 Tim Tebow-good 07 Tyrod Taylor-ok 08 Terrelle Pryor-bad 09 Russell Shepard-young If shepard doesnt work out that will be %50 of #1 ranked kids that turn out to be trash. So like i said, the scouts are not always right. Sorry to do that little fella but i have to call you out when your being ignorant. :(
LOL. okay bud, robert lane was an idiot and went to ole miss, WHO RECRUITED HIM TO PLAY TIGHT END,
pryor is by no means bad at all a 128.0 qb rating, and 16 tds this season, leading his team in rushing, he has problems with pics but thats it, i'd kill to have him over tate.
tyrod taylor-GOOD. lol "ok" tell that to his 149.7 qb rating, nd 13/3 int pic ratio idiot.
perriloux-was good as well, but blew his career OUTSIDE of football, he'd of been a 3 yr starter no doubt.
xavier lee, ALSO was another kid who kept getting in trouble, do some research princess and ull kno ur shit, he was on and off suspension ALL HIS CAREER.
so theres the fuckin facts for you you little bitch, time for your dumbass to go back to school and kno ur shit before you open ur mouth.
Defending mediocre (a little above average) qbs. Its easy to see you dont know much and you cant be working with a full deck. Probably just a old fat washed up football player living through some kids. Or maybe your jobless and your hoping to be part of this kids entourage so you can get a slice when he gets big. In any case, not going to exchange words with someone that has yet to get his G.E.D. Discovered this by your ablity to type. But it was nice to almost have a intelligent conversation.
craig roh will have to step up and be the primary edge pass rusher.Michigan is also going after aramide olaniyan , christian jones, josh furman, michael thornton, tyrone cornileus, cullen christian, tony grimes, sean parker, and dior mathis.lets hope and pray they can get exactly the guys they need to come in and play immediately and make an impact.and provide depth.they sure could use both.GOOOO BLLLLUUUE!!!!!
Tate's REALLY going to have to step his game up during this offseason bcuz if Gardner, Jones or even Denard prove to have stability in their passing game....he'll probably lose his starting job.
I watched Devin play in the state title game last year against EGR. After seeing him as a junior, I'm really interested in seeing how much bigger he will get under Barwis and Co. If he can put on another 20-30 pounds like Forcier did and really develop his skills during his redshirt year, then I think we might be looking at the next Vince Young. Devin's speed is deceptive, don't let it fool you. Yeah his arm needs work, but give it time, he'll get there.
i just saw him play against southgate Anderson in the regional championship game, i was working on the sideline as ball boy (im a freshman btw) we lost, game was close, but man this dude is for real !!! he has a cannon arm, hes very quick and has deceptive speed (runs a 4.5 40yd !!!!) he is about 6'4 and a little less than 200 lbs. he tore us up a bit, but we managed to sack him a few times :) Just wondering.. are you a michigan fan ???
yeah I'm a Michigan fan, and a VERY patient one at that. i believe in Rich Rod, but i believe it's going to take time for Michigan to get back into the top 5 of the polls. 2-3 years max. I just hope everything works out for Rich Rod, everyone i know that's a UM fan is against him because they wanted Les Miles as the coach. I just hope he proves his critics wrong, he's a great coach and a great person if you ever get the chance to hear him speak in person.
the bottom line is we need a better def. coord.robinson is a JOKE.he prides himself on being a good tackling defense.they do tackle well.6-8 yds. down the field. i mean that kind of thing will kill any confidence your offense has if they have to put up 40+ pts. every game to win.
we also need to recruit better on defense. Tony Jefferson may decommit from UCLA. he vusuted Michigan during the Purdue weekend. We need more defensive players to come. Especially with Brandon Graham leaving.
the offense isn't the only thing that concerns me.its the sieve of a defense that does.ranked #80 in rush def.,#84 in pass def.,#77 in pts. def.,#89 in tot.def.THATS HORRIBLE!!!we need to address that if we're going to have any success in the near future.also the o-line needs to pass protect a lot better, the recievers need to get separation, get open, and run better routes.and here's the kicker.DON'T DROP THE FOOTBALL!!!same on special teams. its
and yes what you said is correct, Carr was a great recruiter, but he had a lot to offer, he inherited a great team when he got here, and didnt have to rebuild the entire offense like Rodriguez is faced with doing. Right now the challenge is insuring recruits that Michigan will work with the spread/spread option offense, since the whole big ten and world is coming down on us saying it wont, thier just crossing their fingers hoping it doesnt. Imagine an Oregon type offense in the big ten, crazy.
I think if anything, heat should be on Greg Robinson, compared to RichRod's fire, GR is rather calm with low energy, but his system has proven to be effective when the right peices are in place. the safety play is worse this year than i can even remember. I was watching Oregons offense this weekend, im only praying and hoping one day we will look like that with Devin Gardner as our QB, and a strong smart tough defense in a few years, and plenty of skill players to compliment him. be more patient
look at the young running back at pittsburg setting records..he was like a 3 star. forget the stars, their based on potential, not how their actually going to pan out, nobody knows that. besides they hand out 5 stars to more power players, and we all know we arnt best suited with those players. we do need some defensive players though, the lack of that is why michigan lost three so far. just hold your horses and chill
i kno i kno, i really just doubt his coaching ability to be a head coach, look at it this way, if carr hadn't left we'd have a mallet, mcguffie backfield right now, and probably win the big ten this year. i just dont want us to 'hold on' for 5 years, and keep losing, and at that point regardless of a coaching change we'll be a train wreck and wont get any players
As far as RichRod i'll say this, as far as anybody who wants the michigan football team to suceed and fast, its him. Every play if you watch the games he's on the sidelines trying to get his guys pumped and to play smart, he doesnt make safe boring playcalls. there has been a few questionable ones, but if they suceeded everybody would of loved them. look at our defense right now, talk about holes. We had too many defensive players leave the last few years to be a good team no matter whose coach
Thank you, cuz thats what i been saying from day one. Why are the Michigan faithful all worried if were not in the top ten in scout's team rankings or not? Penn State is number 2 right now know why? their getting power type players, the type of team who takes 20 minutes to get a first down, every play is a 2 yard run just about. Scout mostly rates the player high stars on their power, and lets not make a mistake here, power is important..On Defense, but speed is more important for our offense.
You probably only heard about some of the things they did, but that's ok. I accept your ignorance.
In 06' the wolverines allowed negative rushing yards for I believe their first 8-9 games.
Against Ohio State we were holding them to very low yardage, then David Harris got injured, and they were able to get to 40+ yard runs up the middle where Harris normally was. Andthose two were about the only big plays we allowed all season.
Yeah you had a talented team but I can think of many teams in the 2000's alone that were more talented. Miami in 2001 and 2002 had multiple pro bowl players at safety tight end running back wide reciever line backer and offfensive line, the 2005 USC team had two heisman trophy winners on it and about 6 first round draft picks. Also I'll pardon your ignorance for thinking that they allowed negative rushing yards 8-9 games considering they never did that they only did it twice all year
Are you serious Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, Willis Mcgahee, Clinton Portis, Andre Johnson, Santana Moss, Kellen Winslow, Jeremy Shockey, Frank Gore, Jonathan Vilma, Vince Wilfork, Bryant Mckinnie. The only player off of the Michigan team that looks like he could fit into that group of elite players is Jake Long and maybe David Harris
please we'll be lucky to keep this guy at the pace we're at. i once was an avid rich rod supporter, but it's clear he might be an einstien on offense but doesn't know stick to stone about coaching. the fumbling, poor chemistry, horrible tackling, BRING ON BRIAN KELLY PLEASE! If i saw a glimmer of hope i wouldnt say that, our recruiting class isnt going anywhere but three total 4 stars, he has lost out big time on players who wanted to go blue:jelani jenkins, tavon austin, anthony barr etc.
did you transform into pooledan? before the penn state loss all the michigan fans were still optomistic about michigan's future, yea we should of least challenged them, but come on man you should know that those recruits wouldnt even of considered michigan in the first place if it wasnt for RichRod. I love RichRod's playcalling cuz its not conservative, we just continue to need to get the right players..no neccassarly top star recruits..cuz honestly who gives a crap about top stars.
Gardner will deffinetly take D-robs back up spot if they redshirt him or not, but maybe, even forciers spot depending on how each plays. i see them reshirting him though, however robinson continually is questioned as a back-up qb cuz his struggles to pass, it will all lie there
I dont think its fair to compare him to tate just yet, they have different strengths and weaknesses. However they both have alot of heart, focus, and can see holes that alot of other qb's would just get sacked or try to slide for another yard. Devin's speed and size is impressive, dont underestimate his arm, I think he will be everything ohio state fans hoped they'd get from pryor and more.
will you two calm down? you both have alot in common, you both love devin gardner and cant spell and have childish comebacks. what are you going to call eachother now? butthead?
....of course the Ds gonna be bad, they're a bunch of high schoolers. If you find a high school mix tape against a college level D you show me. Gardner is superior.
It's goin to be hard for any qb at this point to beat out Tate, and not sure if Devin will beat out Denard, they both will have a year under their system, and Denard will make progress in the passing game and we all know Tate will definitly get better even as amazing as he is. Lets face it, Devin is an amazing player, but he needs work in mechanics and he needs to learn our entire playbook, he'll mostly likely redshirt unless any bad injuries happen which I doubt will happen.
u dont need to work on your mechanics when your a freak of nature look at pat white look at vince young if your just flat out a better althelete in COLLEGE than u can dominate but i agree if he wants to be the best he needs to work on his foot work and reading defenses plus throwing even tho he puts up monster numbers
banksfan02 - i actually really agree with you on that ....
but the difference i see is that your every day RB is not 5'7 170 pounds like mcguffie was ... so we all got excited but had to realize that he as playing HS football ....
where as for devin, he's 6'5, 200 pounds, fast as hell, and actually resembles some successful college qb's
but hey lets hope they're different in their college success
Long stride! A few gallops and he has 5 yards.

@cmellows619

YOUR RIGHT he shouldnt scare you why? He is a freakin Freshman
soulflyx69 1 year ago
@soulflyx69 It's not the fact that he's a freshman, it's the fact that his entire skill set can be nullified by good upfield penetration, good outside contain, good pursuit angles and solid wrap up tackling. The kind that the B10 is based around, which is exaclty why I don't think he'll be the messiah everyone seems to think he'll be as against teams like OSU, Wisconsin, Iowa and Penn State, he won't be able to break off these kinds of runs because they're so fundamentally sound.
cmellows619 1 year ago
@cmellows619
TRSaunders09 1 year ago
@TRSaunders09 Pryor rushing- 35 yards vs Wisconsin and 29 vs Iowa. He ran well against PSU but that was about it. So if I'm packing a TOP LEVEL D (don't bring up the Toledo or Minnesota game as they aren't a top level D), I don't see why I should be scared of him on the ground. In the pocket, where he has those recievers, that o-line, and with his athleticism as a get out, that scares me. But running first, please, all I need is a shot at one knee
cmellows619 1 year ago
@cmellows619
TRSaunders09 1 year ago
@cmellows619
TRSaunders09 1 year ago
@soulflyx69 IAgain, I don't care whether he's a freshman or 5th yr Senior. He, and any run first QB for that matter, will never scare me as I know if I'm packing a fundamentally sound Defense with good team speed and wrap up tackling, they can't hurt me in any serious way.
More's the pity they aren't Chad Henne, there's a QB who stayed in the Pocket where QB's belong and could actually throw the ball further than 30 yards.
cmellows619 1 year ago
@cmellows619
TRSaunders09 1 year ago
@TRSaunders09 Oh, thats why Spread option QB's are going number one in the draft and it's the base for every NFL team. That explains why those terrible Wisconsin and Iowa pro-style offenses get owned every week and in their bowls.
Also it isnt the Spread itself I have a problem with (I'm a pats fans and love our spread) its the running QB spread I hate. I admit they work well in College but the second they get into the NFL or play a great D, they no longer have that athletic advantage
cmellows619 1 year ago
@cmellows619
TRSaunders09 1 year ago
@TRSaunders09
TRSaunders09 1 year ago
@TRSaunders09 From everything I've read by Michigan fans, you'd assume differently. Most can't badmouth it enough.
I personally find a pro-style offense more exciting than RR's, but thats really a matter of personal taste and where i grew up than anything else.
cmellows619 1 year ago
@cmellows619
That could be because towards the end of his Career Lloyd Carr went from being a great coach with an exciting pro-style offense, to a terrible recruiter, with a hum-drum, dull pro-style offense, and Rodriguez offers a newer, more fast paced offense.
TRSaunders09 1 year ago
@TRSaunders09 I suppose dull is really a matter of perspective, I found the 2007 offense pretty entertaining to watch and I absolutely hate watching the new offense and won't no matter how many points it puts up or how fast and dynamic the athletes are, I simply don't like the whole spread option offense.
As you can probably tell im not RR's biggest fan either but it's mainly due to the above, not the other stuff.
cmellows619 1 year ago
@cmellows619
TRSaunders09 1 year ago
@TRSaunders09 It's not the last few year, it's the system as a whole I don't like. If they'd have put up 55 points a game and won an NC I still wouldn't like it or enjoy watching it. I'll always stand by UM no matter what coach or system but that doesn't mean I have like it.
cmellows619 1 year ago
@cmellows619
1. Well then I'm afraid that we're at an impasse

@cmellows619 i agree with all...in the beginning i did try to give dick rod a chance and even tho he brought an entertaining offense its just not michigan.. i miss the running backs that power their way thru tacklers...the big time recievers that came clutch when we needed them to be...this offense now is just idk...maybe trying to be to flashy
blackemo26 1 year ago
@blackemo26 I miss the QB's who could read anything more than a cover 2, throw more than 30 yards, Defenses that could tackle and, like you said, Backs that instead of dancing around lowered their shoulders and killed someone. I live in the Northeast it pains me to watch a Pats game simply because Im reminded what Michigan QB's used to be, then I turn on a Michigan game, and it's back to reality
cmellows619 1 year ago
@cmellows619
i totally agree...i see brady doing well and i see henne making it and i see tate..who i like but i just cant take him seriously..hes a flashy qb..hes not goin to be able to stand in the pocket and make that throw knowing hes gonna take a hit. you can only evade tacklers so much before they put that spy on you and force you to throw..big ten is power and we are goin away from it..even our defense isnt what it used to be..im from ohio and went to OSU but been a Mich fan and it hurts
blackemo26 1 year ago
@TRSaunders09 carr never had bad recruits, top 10 in recruits like every year, he landed woodley the #1 DE, braylon, BG (brandon Graham) an amazing 2007 defense, and michigan had a good secondary, now we have no defense at all, or runningbacks
DevilDogSGT07 1 year ago
well he was the mvp of every camp he went to. i mean he will not start while tate is there period. but they cant deny his atletic ability. the only difference between pryer at osu is he can run faster. the big 10 has changed over the years . but you cant judge a kid who will have 2 years to sit and learn. i think he will be great but no messia. none of our QB's are or ever will be Chad Henne. All you can do and i can do is sit back and wait? fair enough. Go Blue
soulflyx69 1 year ago
This guy will bring the best out of Drob and Tate. RR will turn DG and CJ into beast QBs. The scary thing is that they are just as fast as Pat White, and have potential to be better. RR offense killed it when he was at WV. I can see the offense at Mihcigan to be alot more explosive and dangerous than at Michigan. If you think RR offense sucks look at WV when they had Pat White. There's your answer.

Kane9891 2 years ago
His arm strength up? He was throwing so hard during the under Armour game the receivers couldn't even see the ball. If he works on his arm strength any more he will be breaking receivers wrists when they try to catch a ball..

MrMephistopheles666 2 years ago
i just saw him play against southgate Anderson in the regional championship game, i was working on the sideline as ball boy (im a freshman btw) we lost, game was close, but man this dude is for real !!! he has a cannon arm, hes very quick and has deceptive speed (runs a 4.5 40yd !!!!) he is about 6'4 and a little less than 200 lbs. he tore us up a bit, but we managed to sack him a few times :) Just wondering.. are you a michigan fan ???
sgatebobbyb42 2 years ago
yeah I'm a Michigan fan, and a VERY patient one at that. i believe in Rich Rod, but i believe it's going to take time for Michigan to get back into the top 5 of the polls. 2-3 years max. I just hope everything works out for Rich Rod, everyone i know that's a UM fan is against him because they wanted Les Miles as the coach. I just hope he proves his critics wrong, he's a great coach and a great person if you ever get the chance to hear him speak in person.
MrMephistopheles666 2 years ago
the bottom line is we need a better def. coord.robinson is a JOKE.he prides himself on being a good tackling defense.they do tackle well.6-8 yds. down the field. i mean that kind of thing will kill any confidence your offense has if they have to put up 40+ pts. every game to win.
footpedaldave 2 years ago
we also need to recruit better on defense. Tony Jefferson may decommit from UCLA. he vusuted Michigan during the Purdue weekend. We need more defensive players to come. Especially with Brandon Graham leaving.
thabest1995 2 years ago
the offense isn't the only thing that concerns me.its the sieve of a defense that does.ranked #80 in rush def.,#84 in pass def.,#77 in pts. def.,#89 in tot.def.THATS HORRIBLE!!!we need to address that if we're going to have any success in the near future.also the o-line needs to pass protect a lot better, the recievers need to get separation, get open, and run better routes.and here's the kicker.DON'T DROP THE FOOTBALL!!!same on special teams. its
footpedaldave 2 years ago
and yes what you said is correct, Carr was a great recruiter, but he had a lot to offer, he inherited a great team when he got here, and didnt have to rebuild the entire offense like Rodriguez is faced with doing. Right now the challenge is insuring recruits that Michigan will work with the spread/spread option offense, since the whole big ten and world is coming down on us saying it wont, thier just crossing their fingers hoping it doesnt. Imagine an Oregon type offense in the big ten, crazy.

Breckenhick 2 years ago
I think if anything, heat should be on Greg Robinson, compared to RichRod's fire, GR is rather calm with low energy, but his system has proven to be effective when the right peices are in place. the safety play is worse this year than i can even remember. I was watching Oregons offense this weekend, im only praying and hoping one day we will look like that with Devin Gardner as our QB, and a strong smart tough defense in a few years, and plenty of skill players to compliment him. be more patient
foshizzlesteve03 2 years ago
look at the young running back at pittsburg setting records..he was like a 3 star. forget the stars, their based on potential, not how their actually going to pan out, nobody knows that. besides they hand out 5 stars to more power players, and we all know we arnt best suited with those players. we do need some defensive players though, the lack of that is why michigan lost three so far. just hold your horses and chill
foshizzlesteve03 2 years ago
i kno i kno, i really just doubt his coaching ability to be a head coach, look at it this way, if carr hadn't left we'd have a mallet, mcguffie backfield right now, and probably win the big ten this year. i just dont want us to 'hold on' for 5 years, and keep losing, and at that point regardless of a coaching change we'll be a train wreck and wont get any players
mikerobinsonn 2 years ago
As far as RichRod i'll say this, as far as anybody who wants the michigan football team to suceed and fast, its him. Every play if you watch the games he's on the sidelines trying to get his guys pumped and to play smart, he doesnt make safe boring playcalls. there has been a few questionable ones, but if they suceeded everybody would of loved them. look at our defense right now, talk about holes. We had too many defensive players leave the last few years to be a good team no matter whose coach
foshizzlesteve03 2 years ago
Let me tell you something about Carr.
He is an AMAZING recruiter.
the 2006 UM team was undoubtedly one of the most talented teams to ever come together
But Carr's coaching is outdated There is no excuse for that team to not have won a national championship
Also. Rich Rod recruitds a different type of player from traditional big 10 recruiters
He recruits speed as opposed to the normal big ten recruitment of power
In a few years.UMs speed will give everyone trouble in the big ten
Basch152 2 years ago
Thank you, cuz thats what i been saying from day one. Why are the Michigan faithful all worried if were not in the top ten in scout's team rankings or not? Penn State is number 2 right now know why? their getting power type players, the type of team who takes 20 minutes to get a first down, every play is a 2 yard run just about. Scout mostly rates the player high stars on their power, and lets not make a mistake here, power is important..On Defense, but speed is more important for our offense.
foshizzlesteve03 2 years ago
The 2006 team wasn't even one of the most talented teams that year it is a joke to call them one of the most talented teams ever
artwarkam 2 years ago
You clearly didn't see them play then.
Basch152 2 years ago
Our defense was one of the best I've ever seen that year.
It produced about 5-6 players currently starting in the NFL... just on defense... that was easily one of the most talented teams to come together.
Then on offense you had another 6-7 players that were drafted, 3 of which are currently starting.

Miami only put a few players into the pro bowl.
That michigan class has only been in the league for 2-3 years now, and has already put a couple players in the pro bowl.
How many on that USC team went to a pro bowl? Oh, that's right. none.

If i saw a glimmer of hope i wouldnt say that, our recruiting class isnt going anywhere but three total 4 stars, he has lost out big time on players who wanted to go blue:jelani jenkins, tavon austin, anthony barr etc.
mikerobinsonn 2 years ago
did you transform into pooledan? before the penn state loss all the michigan fans were still optomistic about michigan's future, yea we should of least challenged them, but come on man you should know that those recruits wouldnt even of considered michigan in the first place if it wasnt for RichRod. I love RichRod's playcalling cuz its not conservative, we just continue to need to get the right players..no neccassarly top star recruits..cuz honestly who gives a crap about top stars.

think they will redshirt him so they can get 2 years out of him after forcier graduates?
mdkuzava 2 years ago
Gardner will deffinetly take D-robs back up spot if they redshirt him or not, but maybe, even forciers spot depending on how each plays. i see them reshirting him though, however robinson continually is questioned as a back-up qb cuz his struggles to pass, it will all lie there

Gardner will become a legend in his home state setting records at UofM.

Very true........and the funniest thing i've read today.

MICHIGANallDAY2 2 years ago
....of course the Ds gonna be bad, they're a bunch of high schoolers. If you find a high school mix tape against a college level D you show me. Gardner is superior.

GO BLUE!!!
CIz4Cooki3 2 years ago
It's goin to be hard for any qb at this point to beat out Tate, and not sure if Devin will beat out Denard, they both will have a year under their system, and Denard will make progress in the passing game and we all know Tate will definitly get better even as amazing as he is. Lets face it, Devin is an amazing player, but he needs work in mechanics and he needs to learn our entire playbook, he'll mostly likely redshirt unless any bad injuries happen which I doubt will happen.
Go Blue!
goblue918 2 years ago
u dont need to work on your mechanics when your a freak of nature look at pat white look at vince young if your just flat out a better althelete in COLLEGE than u can dominate but i agree if he wants to be the best he needs to work on his foot work and reading defenses plus throwing even tho he puts up monster numbers

banksfan02 - i actually really agree with you on that ....
but the difference i see is that your every day RB is not 5'7 170 pounds like mcguffie was ... so we all got excited but had to realize that he as playing HS football ....
where as for devin, he's 6'5, 200 pounds, fast as hell, and actually resembles some successful college qb's
but hey lets hope they're different in their college success

After Sam Mcguffie, I will never get hyped up from a high school mixtape again.

I'm pretty sure he's sub 4.5. He may not be the best passer, but Pryor isn't either. This kid is big and hard to bring down
