we do a similar effect ( a bit longer) in my full lenght feature film The truth About Shadows . we had an actor perform a sereis of complex moves in reverse to acheive an effect. The result was seamless .. the effect looked natural . I think the best effects are the ones where you dont know there was an effect  Good Job
