I love Susanville.My dad used to work at High Desert State Prison,now were living in Ione(mothers sisters live in the local area).We moved back in 2007,big mistake.I'm twelve now,wish we never moved,but its an awesome place.
Biased opinions, and a liberally-slanted documentary....like most of what PBS broadcasts. NO ONE goes to prison on a petty theft charge without MULTIPLE prior offenses. This documentary is not only unfair, but also grossly inaccurate.
I grew up in Susanville, left in '72, 28 yrs old. The first prison was built as mills were closing in '63. Unemployment and poverty on the rise. The prison industry saw its opportunity and "offered" a minimum security prison. Not knowing what the price would be, the city went for it. Turns out that prison was just the first to be placed there. What a price the town paid for that prison! Returned for a visit 10 years ago. Felt like my soul was sucked out of my body as we crossed the city line.
Criminals have to be put somewhere, that's the reality of crime and punishment. Thanks for blaming the system and feeding into the "shame on the Government" theroy. Of course towns are going to be effected, everyone is effected. It's almost hard to not pass insults but I hope you didn't quit your day job.....hugging trees. Ignorance is bliss I guess. LOL!!!
Hey po.......at 1:30 in this video you almost hit the nail on the head. Though you're still ignorant about the town because you didn't spend enough time here, your partner Katie needs to come out of her house a little more often. Might be good at dotting your I's and crossing your T's, but you two are horrible in math. Reduce your fractions and get to the bottom of the problem, inner-city guidance and leadership. I won't hold my breath for that documentary.
I think Susanville is the bbest town in the world because it's so small that everyone knowws everyone there wich makes it even better cuz we all get along which also makes it a close community where you don't have to be scared or worried and lock doors 24/7 I think Susanville is the best town ever and I'm never moving away from it.
Katie I think pegged Susanville!! They were looking for help!! Now not really such a good idea!! I saw the people in the town turn from friendly never lock your car or house door to now you had better lock everything up!!! Thanks to the people who fallow the prisoners to town.
I was really looking forward to this because susanville is my hometown, but i was very dissapointed... not because it was necesarily biased, but it was a very narrow view of the effect the prisons have had on 'the 'ville'. I'd love to see a more comprehensive sequel though.
