Can you put the movie directly on to youtube after loading it on the computer? or do you have to change the format?

You can upload it right to youtube. You only need to change the format if you want to edit it in windows movie maker.

Nope, unfortunately it doesn't. That's really one of the only things I don't like about the camera. You have to convert to .avi or something else before using movie maker.

You can do it with Quicktime Pro. There are a lot of videos on youtube telling you how to get it for free if you want.

I bought the same camera but the video saves to MOV files

and I can't edit them in windows movie maker

Yeah, I have the same problem with mine. Quicktime pro lets you convert the videos to avi or something else that you can use with movie maker. There are a bunch of videos that explain how you can get it for free

Also, how big of a SD card will this camera take and what type exactly is best?

If by "how big" you mean, how much space can be on the memory card, I don't think it matters. Mine is only 512 MB, but I know for sure you can use ones with plenty of space. If you mean actually sizewise, it just takes your standard SD.

I meant size as in GB's. I just read online at Cannon that its 2GB SD, and up to 32GB SDHC.

can you actually zoom optically in video  mode? are there in distortion in max zoom photos?

Yeah, you can zoom optically in video mode. I do in this video. Max zoom photos aren't as high quality as photos taken at a normal zoom, but I never actually expected them to be. However, I still find them to be pretty good as long as you keep a steady hand--otherwise they may be a little blurry even with the image stabilization.

i'm considering buying one, but there are some negative reviews. bulky, slow lens, focusing issues at telephoto end, no RAW. so-so IQ.

what do you think, given you owned the camera?

Yeah, I've seen the negative reviews too. I personally don't think it's very bulky at all. It's solid, and of course it's larger than your average point and shoot, but I think it has a good feel to it. It's a little sluggish focusing at telephoto sometimes, but nothing to a horribly annoying extent, and yeah, there's no RAW. The RAW wasn't a big issue for me personally, but if it's important to you, you might want to check out something that has that function.

Overall, I think it's great though!

I hear you. Perhaps you could do a short clip with the camera in your hands, using a mirror. I have not seen the camera physically but i saw a clip of it in a female's hand and it looked monstrous.hoping you might be able to give a better perspective.
