Peter's fingering technique is just the shittiest I've ever seen, weird he doesn't feel inhibited by it. You can hear it in the solos that it sounds really static and weird because of the way he plays. :\ Glad he's not in the band anymore, Mikael should've done all the solos. :)
So does anyone know if they have the drums played to a click track, or Lopez just plays the track? Also, when the guitar is playing an you can hear the backing, I assume the guitar is straight into the board.
@pantalaemon I have a theory that large heads allow for more resonance and therefore make for richer, deeper voices. If you look at a lot of great singers you'll see they have enormous heads.
I have no evidence to back up this theory. It's basically a thing I made up.
@Sodhats mhm... quite interesting :P after having seen mikael speak in interviews and on stage, i can confirm, he does have an enourmous head. i think its also enormous because of the amounts of brilliant musical diarrhea he forces out of there every 2 years. Opinions of Devil's Orchard by the way? I was skeptical, but it hacked my brain after a day...
"people seem to believe that I'm sitting in a forest with my guitar praying to the moon". that would be awesome if Mike actually did write songs that way.
That part in Bleak when the clean vocals come in is one of the most beautiful and badass pieces of music I've ever heard in my life. The riff is awesome, the drumming and rhythms are tight, the vocals are great, what else do you possibly want in a song?
@Bassbait Well, like Mikael said in an interview, stuff like Iron Maiden and other metal they've listened in their youth will always be on the back of their mind when they're writing music, and then they just add elements from other genres like prog, which is what makes their music so special.
@Bassbait The part where the distorted guitars come in in Moonchild is very similar to the part of Blackwater Park he's listening to when he says "Moonchild".
@Deathshuck Right, and a live version of Leper Affinity on the cd. I know... maybe one day, when I get my hands on a low priced copy, I might just buy it.

i'll say it: Peter Lindgren's playing wasn't good enough to be in Opeth. He has no feeling

This makes me miss this formation of the band, a lot. This will likely always be the classic, most special formation of Opeth.

So, I'm going to guess that Iron Maiden helped inspire this album? That would explain why he's mentioning Moonchild.

@Bassbait If you hear Moonchild from Iron Maiden you will see that is similar to that part of Blackwater Park. It´s funny...
