Was there for one nightmare year; 4th grade in 1960. Sister Gertrude, a cold, black-eyed nun with a fondness for her paddle was priciple. I remember two names, a quiet kid named Wynkoop in my grade who was mercilessly taunted and an officer named Staunton (Stanton?) in 8th grade who was the epitome of grace and kindness to we powerless underclassmen. Learned discipline but at a high emotional cost. The nuns watching us in the showers, the fondness for corporal punishment An unhappy place.
Hi, I went there about the same time as you did, I was there in grades 1, 2, and 3, I can't remember a whole lot of names anymore. I can be contacted @ mhutson28@yahoo.com or on Facebook under Jesse Hutson. Thanks. Oh, Sister Ethel Rita was in charge then. And I remember Bill and his daughter that went to school in the same grade I think. Awesome to see it again. PS, I hated it LOL.!! Was in "drum and bugle " core
I'm Louis Cook James and I attended from 1964 - 1968, (2nd - 4th grades) Hated it. Parents transferred me over to Fork Union Military Academy, (Fork Union, VA.) for 5th and 6th grades. Hated it. So, on to Sanford Preparatory School, (Hockessin, DE) a boarding school for rich hippy kids. Expelled.
Try 1964-65, 1967. I''ve seen images and names that I never thought I would again encounter. Names like Summers, Bellamy, Proctor, Green (lumpy).'field tactics` every other weekend. Two hours of drill every other day ; a chance to distinguish oneself having earned an `over-and-under` patch for staying out all night in under green `shelterhalf` with temperatures under 32 degrees waiting for Bill to show up with his black skillet and make pancakes and sunny side up eggs. God bless you Bill.
My father went there and he recalls being beaten up by nuns and he despised every thing about and i swear to him that if i ever can buy the school ill blow it up for him and everyone else who despises what happend there
I was in LHMS '54 to '58. They were really great times! I didn't see the old rifle shack. They kept the 9 lb. rifles there. We all had to learn the manual of arms to the count of 21. I was an officer but got busted down to a sergeant. Chewing gum and comics were the coin of the realm at the time. Remember "safety" and "buck six"?
Saturdays we had drills and hikes, hot dogs and beans. I was in company D guide sergeant. Father Jim was our priest. Sister Ethelreda was the principal. Sister Mary Leo, Sister Mary David were some of the teachers. Sister Joan operated the movies. I was in dormitory 8. Beds, chairs and pillows had to be in a straight line. Canteen tickets. Anybody else during those years? Remember the trailways buses that would take us home for holidays etc.? Bill has been there since the Romas ruled the earth.
Way back (WAAAAY back) in the early 60's it was simply "the windbreak" The video is shot from the center of what used to be the "Arsenal" where the (non-firing) rifles were stored
I was there in the early 60s. The student officers were barbaric & sadistic, I hated every minute of this school. I was physically severely beaten by one of them & was hospitalized. I & my parents raised hell about my treatment & it was a scandal at the time. I had hoped that the school would be razed to the ground one day as student abuse was common and condoned by school officials. my laterattendance at Leonard Hall was benign & if we had not moved to California, I would have graduated.
WOW, I'm class of '79!!!! I remember the parades, the popsicles at the canteen, the hikes always started there with our half tents given out to each of us!!!!! I was in A company and those windows up in the third floor were our windows!!! Thanks for the memories!!!
It's been a long time - I'm class of '79 as well, HQ company. I haven't thought about shelter halves, canteen and smacking tennis balls against the windbreak in a long time. Thanks for the memories.
Did you know that Linton Hall is listed in Facebook? It has lots of old pictures and comments.

I'm sorry you hate this school, Remember, however, in any situation, you get out of it what you put into it.
