In the early eighties there was a healthy surplus then they started raiding the funds. Now, they have the nerve to talk about it's solvency. They should take some of the interest from the stimulus loans we the people gave and put some of that money back. this is money we worked for. It doesn't belong to them. @xargos I hope you aren't one of these idiots that championed healthcare "reform" when we were $14 trillion dollars in debt. You can say "no" to something when you can't afford it. Secondly, Clinton raided SS funds to create that "surplus". Third, not all Republicans are in favor of cutting social security. Although I have to ask myself why we ever were dumb enough to trust politicans with such an important task as caring for the eldergy and sick. They can't even take care of themselves.

social security is not solvent for 27 years. All the money that is supposed to be there has been taken buy the politians and used for all the for the crap govenrment gives to people. SS is nothing but I.O.'s. And it was in the red this year 16 years sooner than expected.

How about we get we tax everyone equally? Why should some who's more fortunate then others have to give away there money? Get rid of social security and food stamps! Take away all free handout programs. If you cant make it then starve to death in the streets you either sink or swim i say. @wetweasel56 social security is 100% solvent for 27 years if we do absolutely nothing. If you think it's necessary to work on this non-problem now, simply raise the cap on wages to be taxed or create a "donut hole"... We should be lowering the age of retirement if we do anything...

People are becoming aware of that favorite Republican tactic of using half truths(or half lies) to manipulate public opinion. By just saying "not renewing the tax cuts" without specifying for whom, gives the false impression that all tax cuts are ending. Nice try.
