my gas gauge fluctuates between half and empty... but i have filled it to over half but its still reading empty?

i just bought a car they fixed the gauge by replacing the fuel relay ??? but it doesnt seem to be measuring right any thoughts ???

@napper1496 YOU SEE ON MY DODGENEON THE SPEEDOMEER DIDNT SO I USED A PIECE OF WOOD TO HOLD DOWN THE CLUSTER WHILE I TIGHTENED THE SCREWS NOW IT WORKS NO PROBLEM

i dont have any computerized devices on my car i have a carburated 1968 pontiac i dont even have a cassette player or a/c (used to have both)
