I think this movie was WAY ahead of it's time. This director does things nobody else would have the guts or imagination to do. What do you want? one more sensitive fucking coming of age movie about teenage angst?

Spot on. This film has some weak moments...but overall it's strange, beautiful, and perfectly cast (except for Art Garfunkel and Kurtwood Smith who give awful performances). Julian Sands is amazing in this film - he's creepy but sympathetic.  Never will there be a film like Boxing Helena.
