  • what would be a good radio for someone wanting to get their license and just starting out? thanks

  • from the 1st of july 2010 the uk 40 will become (CADS) Community Audio Distribution Systems .

    Not good :(

  • nice radio!

  • nice radio

  • does this radio have to be converted for 11 meter use?

  • Ranger makes 10 meter ham radios. CB radio or 11 meter band is allocated between the legal 10 & 12 meter ham bands. The old 2950 and 2970 Rangers would tune and transmit up on 10 meters and almost down to 12 meters. I had one of the 2970s and they also came with a 100 watt amp built in. I sold it a few years ago and regretted the heck of of it. Wish I had it back. Very nice radio!

  • Ranger and RCI et al are CB freeking radios, not HAM. Have the balls to admit it's a cb and not a ham radio.

  • nice radio

  • Here we go again, OchrismongrelO the cb police. Go play with you ham faggot. Leave the mauldropping to us cb folks.

  • here we go again, jbevin the little faggot ass cber who talked shit but wouldnt show up when i told him to talk shit to my face, just like a cber, all talk no balls.

  • The Free Band Channels would be for DX'ing only, no local chat. I've got a Galaxy Melaka, Antron 99 90' feet up. I have talked to Spain, Belgium, China and many more. Yes, that is a straight radio, no amp. Nice video.

  • OMG (comments) Very nice video by the way :) Greetings from Terjärv Finland :)

  • Nice Video! Well done!

  • i like cobras 245 pihla pa sais that

  • these radios are huge pieces of shit

  • the beastofold even said anything above 27.405 is for CW, he is a 100% jackass.

  • test

  • The frequency 26.620 MHz used to be used by the Civil Air Patrol in the United States, and 27.525, 27.545 and 27.575 used to be used by US Government agencies in AM mode many years ago. There are a few other users worldwide of these frequencies, for example, Germany has a special CB allocation from 26.565 to 26.955 and New Zealand has 26.550 to 26.770 as their CB bands. Do your research before bashing other people on here...

  • And yes, there are ham radio bands in that part of the spectrum..and a LONG time ago 11 meters was an amateur radio band (26.96 to 27.23 MHz) but it was rarely used which led the FCC to re-allocate it to what eventually became CB (see Part 95 of the FCC rules if you don't believe me). 24.890 to 24.990 MHz and 28.000 to 29.700 MHz are the 12 and 10 meter bands respectively. The other parts of the 25 to 30 MHz bands are rarely used by anybody anymore...

  • He's exactly right. The FCC specified US CB band is 26.965 MHz to 27.405 MHz...and this band is used by some European countries as well...but some of them use FM instead of AM/SSB which is used in the United States. In addition, the UK has the 27.60125 to 27.99125 MHz using FM only. Therefore 27.555 is in between both of these bands. Yes, it is illegal to use frequencies outside your countries' allocations...but these rules are RARELY enforced...

  • i live in ENGLAND you ASSWIPE, check what frequenies we use before shooting your mouth. 80 channels..but 27,555 is in between our 2 blocks of 40 and in case you didnt know is soley used by ssb dx stations. OH, BY THE WAY I AM A HAM(class 1) have been for 21 years, and when i need advice from a cb`er, i`ll ask. OK . "THE BEASTOFOLD". . . CB`ER

  • 007tatertot007. dont you know shit? he is using cb bands, when has 26 or 27mhz been ham band? bumb ass.

  • Shows how much you know! Anything above 27.405or below 26.965 is ham or government.

    From the FCC

"There are 40 shared CB channels used on a "take-turns" basis. There are no channels authorized in the CB Radio Service above 27.405 MHz or below 26.965 MHz."

Below ch1 is used for government communications and above 27.405 is used for CW i think but i could not find any info on it.

  • If you are a Chicken Bander (CB) and you operate on the Ham bands without a licanse thay can and will find you with tracking eqipment and You will get a $10,000 fine and/or jail time also your radios will be taken away from you.

  • by the way its illegal in the usa too...

  • I'm using a roadking 56 on one of the latest models. It suppress's the echo abit but it removed the tinny quality so I sound better to everyone. I love the way this radio is set up. After reading reviews and seeing this video I decided to get one. Its a keeper.

  • like i said i was not trying to force any point i operate cb radio (quite legally) and its pretty good. illegal power/frequencies are Not necessary in order to make good contacts its quite normal to be able to speak to switzerland germany italy france spain from here with 4 watts and a simple half wave antenna.i think it was a mistake to make cb licence exempt here in the uk however usage is scarce compared to what it was

  • fuck you asshole, this is america and i have the right to talk on anyradio i buy! go suck the gov's(fcc) dick you little bitch! see you on the ham bands !

  • yes ok get yourself a licence(the test is easy enough)and I will indeed meet you on the ham bands..that rig you have there will work just fine on ten metres unfortunately/fortunately nobody has the right to talk where they want (thats in any country) 27.555 may not interfere with other services so perhaps the law is not being enforced... but its still illegal..

  • Ballbreaker said-

'fuck you asshol' - 'go suck the gov's(fcc) dick' - 'bitch'

3 good reasons why he can never become a ham - He's just not smart enough.

But he is dumb enough to go buy any radio he wants and start to talk.

A typical CB'er and a great example of those interested in the hobby. - NOT !

  • It should be noted that the is NOT ham radio.

This is illegal CB activity and these are the sorts of people that cause your TV to go funny , and they don't give a rats ass about it.

Hams operate radios in FULL accordance with the law , and a will help out in any accidental interferenc3e problem.

    gregW:-) OH2FFY

Yes, I am a REAL ham - not a cowboy playing games.

''For ham radio video , visit my YouTube channel.''

  • exactly I only watched this crap to comment to say the same thing but you already said it. 27MHz is not Ham freq. 73's

  • the guy is just having fun .

  • this is illegal cb operation greg and and most probably with illegal power as well however not wishing to force any point but not all cb activity is illegal.most people dx quite legally with half wave antennas and 4watts rf on legal frequecies also many cb operators are now ham radio operators as well. Im sorry greg but I disagree not all ham operators operate within the law some run illegal power, also a minority abuse repeaters and other hams

  • I agree 100‰ Adriano , sure some hams do run illegal power levels, but this is in the extreme minority.

Consider on the other hand the large proportion of CB'rs that run what they call 'peaked' radios.

Use of these peaked radios is instantly illegal.

Also, if you were to do a search on YouTube for CB'rs that use export radios or that use ham radios illegally , or modified CBs you WILL find a LARGE amount of content.

    cont'd---->

  • --->

Surely this percentage must be relative to illegal use in real life.

    Abusive speech and repeater abuse.

Agreed again, in some areas on VHF and UHF this happens.

And the FCC (or OFCOM) finds these people, fines them and takes their license away.

While it is possible for some hams to go beyond the law, typically they aren't around for long.

I would guess that more than 50% of CB'rs either run illegal equipment (in some way) or violate other operation laws (in some way)

    Hams don't.

    gW:-)

  • Who cares if you ARE a HAM. NOBODY.

  • hams suck gov dick! cb and free-banders talk where ever the hell we want! see you on the ham bands with my modded rci 2970dx 21-32 megz ! cb rules baby! usa usa usa

  • Who cares dude? Nobody.

  • what a cheap shit radio bucket of crap just like my german 29 pu 04

  • Yes, the radio works fine...for the first months. Then it blows the driver or finals. But the receiver is very good!

  • what microphone are you using there mate? my freind tried a power mic on his 200 and it blew the outputs .I have found that these radios dont like amplified mics at all, go back to a standard mic and let me know how ya get on. mine is still ok and I stuck with standard mic always

  • lol and yea when the fucking nightwatch burns out after 2 years you are fucked atotal piece of shit stay away people from the china junk cobras we need to shame them into making good radios again

  • Eh, I'll Stick with my Galaxy DX-2517, I find it to be more... versatile. Cobra's alright and everything, but Galaxy's got it goin' on! The Galaxy 939HP is a good lookin radio, I hear em' all around 19, but I'm stuck with my base station, for now. Anyway, your cobra is nice, but try Galaxy's big radios when you feel like it.

  • Hallo Gute Videos...73s

  • that rigs is a little too big for my likeing,

I have had the 148GTLDX it was a nice radio and I had good reports, but I since moved on to a Magnum 257, very good radio neat and small enough for perfect mobile use

  • Yes, the radio is not so bad! The newest model wotks very good. No problems with this radio. Have 2 of them. 73's

  • Any idea what the driver is for the SC2290 finals? Thanks

  • It's the same like in the old model... 73s

  • 0.1 out 10 4 back door shit radio !!!!!

  • Only one thing I have heard about this radio......biggest piece of shit that cobra ever put their name on.....yep that is pretty much the consensus among serious radio enthusiasts

  • there was a few problems with the early versions, but my example is one of the last ones. it's a shame that these radios werent developed prperly before they were released, because they got it right at the end, but it was too late for the radio buying public to trust the product, I guarantee that if you try a late model, you would like it, just dont use a power mic on them cos they just dont like it. cobra really fucked up by rushing the r & d on this radio.

  • i have one of those radios but the only thing i hate about it is the talkback.

  • Yes, you are right. I dent it to a radio shop to disable it. Hope it is possible!

  • Yes, this is not the frequency HAM radio, The CB is good, I have one.

  • 27.555 Mhz IS NOT A HAM RADIO FREQUENCY.

    THIS IS FREEBANDING!

  • Good radio.

  • the early ones were marred by a terrible rputation for build quality issues, these were resumed on the later models but the reputation of the radio is still ruined,a real shame as these are a great looking radio, and work well now they are sorted. 73's and good dx

    Jay m3vpi

  • Thanks for comment evans128! This one is a Rev.3. This model works just fine! No problems in frequency drift or go to the zeros. Only problem is the dark modulation with a turner +3 Mic an the talk back function which is ever activated when echo is active. But the Astatic 575 works great! I'll test a Silver Eagle next time. 73s!!

  • if you like a sharper sound on your modulation try a k40 mic,but beware they can sound a little too metallic, that's a beautiful radio sir,73's and good dx!

  • k40? is it an astatic or which brand?

  • k40 is the brand name, they made all kinds of cool stuff, one of which being their processor microphone,it takes it's power from a capacitor that charges from the radios voltage so no need for a heavy battery, they are black with the k40 logo in red and they're very compact unlike the bulky astatic teardrops, google them.or e bay, 73's

  • only use standard mics on these radios, they dont like power mics.
