Train-station Phitsanulok in thailand 15 ธันวาคม 2550

One evening I was at the Phitsanulok station when everyone was ordered to move well back from the tracks. After a few minutes a train came in heading north with the freight doors open and soldiers manning machine guns in them. There were soldiers all over the train. It looked like something out of an old western, with guards protecting against Pancho Villa. I've alway wondered what was on board that needed such security - the national mint? Never saw anything like it before or since.

Seems more built up around the station that when I lived in the Phit 35 years ago. No pedal samlors waiting any more and even the notorious wood pile is gone. :(
