i just started this diet with my dog. any advice on making the chicken more enticing? she just licks it, but won't eat it. i know she's hungry...also, can they eat things like gizzards & chicken livers? any advice would be appreciated, thx.
@MrAnthony78666 grind everything, with the bones, thats what I do for my puppies and dogs(french bulldog breeder) chicken feet, wings, gizzards, beef liver, etc. I also provide bones, beef, pork and sometimes chicken as a treat. The most important thing is that i add d/earth into each feeding to eliminate all parasites and feed them in a closed and clean area, so they dont drag the stuff all over the yard catching things..check my website for nutritional info, its on my page. hope that helps
this isn't the proper way to feed meat to your dog. what I do is tie a living chicken onto a cross and play a repetitious beat on a African drum as I watch the dog eating his prey
Dogs digestive system is tolerant to bacteria found in un-cooked meats. On like human we can die from it. Dogs can't!!! I also feed my dogs un-cooked meats five years and my American bulldogs are healthy. If you really take your time and read what is put in dog kibble you will see where the real harm is.
Raw foods produced for dogs and sold in pet stores are commercially safer than raw meats purchased in grocery stores. The acceptable level of bacteria in meats sold at grocery stores is 30% or less because it is meant to be cooked.
They make healthier food for pets than the publix varieties loaded with grains. And actually if you were forced to eat a perfectly formulated diet you would probably be in very good health.
There's a reason most animals live way longer in captivity than in the wild. I don't know the specific numbers for dogs but i know red foxes average 15 years in captivity and 3 in the wild (and red foxes are not a domesticated species). Besides dogs aren't wild anymore, they have been domesticated and much of their body has been changed (just look at how different they all look). They are not built to live like wild animals anymore. They would not fare as well as say, wild African dogs.
@ Osnarf... that's not because of the content of their diet. And correlation is not causality.
They probably live longer in captivity because they are fed food regularly, not because the food they eat is any different. They also do not have any predators while in captivity. They also probably receive regular medical treatment so that the little kids in the zoo don't ask "Mommy, why does that fox have a bone sticking out of his side?"
A dog's physiology and anatomy are much the same of a wolf's. It's only the temperament and the looks that have changed. Did you know that a dog's mDNA sequence is less than 0.2% different than that of a wolf's? I bet you didn't. Dogs are carnivores, they don't need that grain kibble crap. They need raw meat.
if raw food gives dogs worms, how in the hell did they survive on their own in the wild??....come on guys!!...seriously!!....They were meant to eat raw food. They have the appropriate enzymes to digest and metabolize all those essential nutrients. Would any of you be able to survive and feel healthy if you ate health bars and cereal every single day of your lives without having any "natural" food?..Think about it.
keep feeding your dog RAW!..it beats picking up processed dog shit, and having a scratching, smelling dog to live with...Personally, my dog has better teeth, breath and skin then most people I know
he's a dummy, i put kibble out for my apbt pup and he only eats it when he's about to die of starvation, lol. i can set a chicken leg out for him and he's not only satisfying his teething, but he enjoying his meal and recovering from his mange quite nicely. i don't know if it was a coincidence but he caught mange as soon as i had him on pedigree. those dog food companies should be ashamed of themselves
Faeden, you know common sense isn't quite always the answer. You have no idea how many benefits come with feeding your pets a diet of raw meaty bones. I feed a pork necks and ribs, beef ribs, poultry backs, wings and legs, and a few table scraps such as cooked meat, eggs, and plain yogurt. I challenge you to try feeding raw for a month. Come back and tell me the results and I bet your going to come back apoligizing for doubting us.
I feed lots of raw also. I have tried chicken but I had with larger chunks of unchewed bones from the thighs. She ate them fine but the bones wouldn't be chewed up enough for first time digestion and she would regularly regurgitate the large bone pieces and rechew them...everything passed the second time.
The real issue was since she is a house dog and rides in the front of the truck like any good dog-person does she would make too many messes.
Always happy to see other raw-feeders out there! We feed our three cats and our Aussie a 'pre-made' raw frozen diet (from Nature's Variety) along with some RMB's (raw meaty bones, for those who don't know) and they just LOVE it. I have a video on here showing how crazy the kitties get over their food. A raw diet (done right) is so much more beneficial to dogs and cats than anything you could ever find in a dry kibbled pet food.
Excellent!!! Please don't forget to feed some organ meat as well! -- They should get up to 5 or 10% of there diet as organ meats, liver, heart, kidney, lungs, etc. Chicken beef and liver are the most easy for most people to obtain.
Correct, dogs are pretty safe eating raw bones. If a piece of raw bone does become lodged in their throat then their saliva will most likely disolve it. Cooked bones will choke them however and are not health giving.
Thanks Blugirl, you're absoloutely right. NEVER feed a dog (or any other carnivore) COOKED bones, but raw bones are a whole different story and quite safe. The dangers of feeding a dog kibble far outweigh any risks of feeding a raw diet, but people of our generation are going to have to get past the ideas about canine nutrition we've been taught.
Pet food companies should get banned for causing chronic illness in millions of pets all over the world. Most people who have made the decision to feed raw diets, know more about pet nurition the most vets.

True, but not raw chicken bones. Anyone with half a brain knows that bones splinter and can get stuck in the dogs throat, I know someone who lost a dog that way.
Yes, I am a shelter director. I will not continue to debate this matter. If you wish to learn more, feel free to visit rawmeatybones . com and rawfedcats . net
Faeden I've seen you comment on this several times now. You have no clue what you're talking about so please stop, since you are obviously dumber than a rock when it comes to being informed before you shoot your mouth off.
Well the fact you had to resort to personally insulting me just shows you know nothing and know you have no leg to stand on in this debate, insults are the last resort of the defeated. Its common sense if you give a dog or cat that splintered bones can cause problems. How about you start eating sharp splintered bones and see what happens. Go home until you educate yourself and get some common sense.
Savannahcatz, if I had cats, I would definitely feed them raw! They are meant to be digesting meat, not the gross corn and grains in kibble. Plus a cat would be so cheap to feed raw, considering that I feed a pound of raw per dog per day, minimum.
@AxeMurderGirl Actually, yes, it is kept very clean. I have tile floors, feed the kitties on towels (dogs are outside) and mop daily after they eat. In keeping multiple animals inside, keeping things very clean is vital to keeping them healthy. Its something I take very seriously. Some people can barely manage to keep things clean with one pet, other people can handle many more. Just depends on the level of commitment that you have.

one question, how much of raw meat do you feed to ur dog per a day? is it more expensive to invest on raw meats than the dog foods at pet store?

but how expensive is it to feed dogs raw chickens all the time? i certainly couldent afford it lol
pablowall 2 years ago
Expensive?? hardly.. here is a breakdown
1- 10lb bag of $ 5.00 chicken from walmart breaks down to approx 5 quart bags ( 2 pieces pr bag ) a 80 lb dog eats 1 quart per day.
Total for the Month- $25.00 plus tax and a few ziplocks . Hardly any dog shit to pick up, nice breath, great coat..all for 25.00 pr month
1-40 lb bag of "quality" dog squeeze..uh i mean dogfood- $40.00 lasts two weeks
you pick up one bag of dog shit per one bag of dog food. lousy breath, dull coat, allergies..
fstwrtr 2 years ago 4
well thats not so expensive at all, but where i live we import chicken so its like twice as expensive :(
